.. would be so much easier if it were stocked with better choices!

Forgot my lunch today (doh!) and had to rely on our vending machines. I knew there wouldn't really be any good choices but was willing hold out til dinner vs. eat a pack of skittles and Grandma's cookies for lunch.

As I scoured the selections I was shocked to find a beautiful, shiny package of beef jerky .. packed w/13g of protein and only 70 calories!!!! I don't think I've been this excited walking away from a vending machine since I was a little chunker back in elementary school. :-)

If they can make vending machines that are refrigerated with ice cream bars and fill them every week, why can't they do the same but with fresh veggie or protein options?! Being healthy is the new thing- I think it would be a hit! For all of you entrepreneurial spirited MFP'ers out there... this is your chance. :)

We had a vending machine with sandwiches & wraps in it (better than a bag of Skittles  ) at a firm I worked at a number of years ago (but there 150+ employees and the product got turned over pretty rapidly)

I think it depends on what kind of office you're in. The more employees, the more healthy options you will have so there isn't as much risk as the food going bad from not selling. The only halfway decent this in ours is a bag of pretzels :( so I'll just go out and get something if I forget my lunch at home that day. I would love if we were able to have a healthy vending machine!

Nuts, beef jerky, sometimes I've seen trail mix with nuts and dried fruit.

I have seen machines with sandwiches but you have to have a big demand otherwise they go bad. I've seen apples and oranges a few times.

The ones in my hospital have sandwhiches but they are definately not healthy! That is why I keep things in my locker for emergencies. I have popcorn, soup, nuts, shakes (slimfast) and a few meal bars..........

Ya I agree on the demand part.. I mean- I work for a pretty huge company so I would imagine it would be a big hit! However, I'm sure from a cost savings perspective they would rather stick with the old, ordinary machines. :) I guess I understand now why we have an ice cream machine instead (stays frozen! wont go bad!). :)

My emergency stock pile ran low at my desk... and then I went shopping yesterday and forgot to bring all my new "goodies"! I always keep nuts and protein powder (and a shaker bottle)... I think I'll bring along some meal bars too.
