Stress, cortisol, and weight loss- thoughts?

Just read an interesting excerpt from Dr. Moreno's 17 Day Diet book that basically stated "our body deals with stress by raising our cortisol levels. This in turn triggers an over-release of glucose and insulin into the blood- which creates insulin resistance."
The most interesting statement was: "To your physiology, being under chronic stress is the same as if you ate cake all day long."
What are your thoughts on this? I've always had trouble dealing with stress properly. Do you feel stress is something that could truly hinder upon weight loss results despite someone doing everything else right? (i.e. proper nutrition/calories, exercise) I'm wondering if that could be a big contributor to my lack of results... (despite my terrible food diary day today lol).
