Which is the better choice in bread?
I have a problem with metabolic syndrome so I have been cutting carb intake and trying to do a primal type diet. I have changed my diet and given up most starchy carbs but I'm having trouble with giving up bread completely. I like having a piece of toast with breakfast and it is usually my only grain or starchy carb for…

Gluten free bread or sprouted bread?
Although I've done almost a compete 180 on my diet and changed or given up some things I'm finding it hard to give up bread. Now I know some people feel you don't have to and for many people I agree with that, but I have a problem with metabolic syndrome so limiting starchy carbs is best for me. I still like to have a…

Anyone willing to adopt a semi-noob??
I have been at this life style change for two years now. I have made great progress and have over-hauled almost every aspect of my life. It has been at times extremely hard but also wonderfully rewarding. I have learned a lot but I also have learned that there is still so much to know. I have been reading as much as I can…

Lifters: Not real sure what to do now...
I have been lifting for 7 months now. I lift 3x a week as well as spin 3x a week. I do chest and tri' s, back and bi' s, and legs and shoulders. The program is written to do 3 sets of 10 reps. I started that way but then listened to a trainer who told me about muscle confusion and how I should add another set, which I did.…

Really need some info and suggestions
Ok, let me start by saying that I really am very proud and happy with my progress so far but I seem to have hit a wall. I have not lost scale weight in months. Like over four + months. I am 125 lbs. I will drop down to 123 for a day or so and then back up to 125. I've been playing with the same 3 lbs for forever. I lift…

Lifters: I need your thoughts...
Once again I am confused. Today at the gym I asked a trainer about the leg curl machine and he started to discuss my lifting program. The program changes slightly every two months keeping some of the same exercises but exchanging out a few too. It is set up that you do 3 sets of 10 reps. Anyways, he tells me that after a…

A word of warning: I'm going down...
This was what was going through my mind as I almost fell face first into an arcade machine. Went to the movies Friday night and everything was fine until it all of a sudden wasn't. Sitting there and felt fine and then instantly got very sick to my stomach and started sweating buckets, like someone had turned a faucet on.…

Lifting questions...
I'm only in my fourth month of heavy lifting so I'm still learning and this might seem like a silly question but I gotta ask. The weights this month have started to feel really heavy. I know, they're supposed to. But it has started to make me a bit nervous. I'm reaching a point where I'm beginning to doubt my ability to…

Losing steam and motivation...
It has taken me over a year and a half to lose 30+ lbs. I'm seeing people on here able to accomplish this in much less time. Up until now I had been ok with this but now I'm questioning everything. I still feel like I have anywhere between 8-10 lbs to go. I have been everywhere on the calorie spectrum. I started off vlcd…

Lifters: What is your go to guide...
I'm completely and totally confused and the more I read here the more confused I've become. I'm lifting heavy, doing cardio, and have about 8 more lbs to lose. Having a hard time dropping these last lbs. I guess my main issue is I just don't know enough or understand enough about lifting, diet while lifting, and such.…

reset questions
First of all I'm not sure if I should do this or even how to do it. I tried to look under the search button but couldn't find the info on how and why to do one. If any of you know of a thread I should read please let me know. Should I do it before or after I reach my goal weight? The main reason I'm considering doing one…

Did spreadsheet but have a question
I'm confused about the macro percentages. It recommends 60 carb 20 fat and protein. For me I find eating more carbs just makes me hungrier while higher fat and protein keeps me full for hours. If I don't change to the 60 20 20 will it effect my weight loss?

macro confusion
I just did heybales spreadsheet and learned I've been overeating by around a hundred calories. :-/ UGH. Noticed that the macros it suggests is 60% carbs and 20% for the rest. I thought it was supposed to be 40-30-30. Does this make a huge difference? I guess I'm not understanding how the macros make a difference in weight…

Lifters: need info on front squats
My lifting program has front squats for the next two months but doesn't give you any info on them. Had some random guy show me them once. I will be looking at some vids of them. My question is how much weight should I start at? I'm up to 105 lbs on regular squats but can't imagine trying that across my front, or am I…

Feeling like a dog chasing its tail...
Not sure where best to post this and not sure if anything can be done about it but maybe some of you have some ideas. I'm not seeing the results I thought I should be seeing yet. I know I need to be patient and every day I keep plugging along but I want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong and wasting time. For…

Lifters, can you please explain what the difference...
What is the difference between a 5 sets 5 reps program and a 3 sets 10 reps program? I'm doing a program that is 3 sets 10 reps and using the major compound lifts and one of the ladies at the gym said that was too many reps. What? Wouldn't you get the same benefits no matter the sets and reps? I'm lifting to, of course,…

Suggestions...advice...help!!
I posted this in another thread and was suggested that I post it here to get your feedback. Ok, to start, I'm 5' 1 1/2", 47 years old, 126 lbs, and about 25-26% bf. My lifting program is 5 days a week with all the major compound lifts and just a few isolation lifts and it takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to complete. I…

Bench Press Issues...
I am now totally confused on bench press form. I had been going off the video on bodybuilding.com but was told I'm not doing them correctly at the gym today. For starters, when you do them should you feel them in your chest or arms more? I was trying to keep my grip just a bit wider than my shoulders but was told that was…

Deadlifts and bruises
Just started doing deadlifts and I now have a bruise in the same place on the top of both my kneecaps. They don't hurt and aren't very large. Is this a normal occurrence or is it because of bad form? Anyone have issues with this too?

Need some reassurance...
I'm a week and a half into my heavy lifting program and I'm now 3 lbs heavier than before I started. I keep telling myself to relax and not to stress about it and that the weight gain could be from starting a new program but that little voice in the back of my head just won't SHUT UP. I probably wouldn't be as bothered by…

Question for lifters about the hack squat machine...
Used the hack squat machine today but nobody at my gym could answer my question. This machine has a bar that is attached to the shoulder pad harness thing that you put the weight plates on but no one could tell me how much that the shoulder pads and bar itself ways so I have no idea how much I squated with it. Someone told…

Bench presses...
Just did my second chest day workout and did flat bench presses and incline ones. Tried to remember to keep my shoulders down and back. My question is where should you be feeling them when you do them? Should I be feeling a strain in my chest or arms? I feel it in my arms. Now I'm not sure if I did them correctly. I can…

Lunges... my nemesis
Today was leg day in my new strength training program. I'm doing a program from the book Thinner Leaner Stronger. I was so proud of myself for doing my squats in the squat rack, as this had me terrified, but when it came to the barbell lunges I was too off balance. I have MS so I have balance issues. Tried them in the…

Trouble with lunges...
I am starting a new program that calls for barbell lunges. I have MS and my balance sucks so I feel much more comfortable with squats. My question is, will it effect me negatively if I substituted these lunges with a different type of squat? I will already be doing barbell squats but I heard there are different types of…

Stronglifts 5x5 vs. NROLFW
I have finished doing Chalean Extreme and have purchased and read NROLFW and Stronglifts 5x5 and I'm not sure which program I should do next. Has anyone done either one of these programs? What did you think of them? Stronglifts looks less complex than NROLFW but it also looks like it is geared more torwards men. Anyone…
