Alcohol and the Obvious
I have never been a big drinker. However I enjoy to occasional Shiner Bock or glass of wine with a meal. Grilled foods and a good beer complement each other for this southern boy. That being said, I have most definitely noticed a difference in the impact of a couple of beers after dropping 90 pounds. Used to be I felt no…

Data Center Woes
for i in `rant` do I hate all the rush, cascading projects, and customers wanting everything now at the end of the year. We have at least 6 projects due for December 23 that they told my department about 3 weeks ago. Needless to say, 60+ hours weeks are hell on eating and gym schedules. done

The doctor was happy
I went to the doctor last friday. For the past 2 years he has wanted to see me every 6 months for blood work and checking my blood pressure. I had been on hypertension medicine for 2 years. I took myself off of it 3 months ago because of blood pressure drops when I stood up. Well anyway, without meds my bp was 114 over 60.…

Workplace challenges to new eating habits
What are your workplace challenges to cleaner eating and sticking with the better choices? A few I deal with are - The rest of my team goes offsite for lunch everyday and it is typically fast food with emphasis on Fried and high sodium. So I bring my lunch (leftovers of whatever I cook) and eat in the breakroom. As a…

Weight training and Women
I was inspired and motivated today in gym. It was a lifting day for me and I was doing my thing and noticed a couple that I hadn't seen before. It was a guy and a gal, both seemed late 20's approaching 30. I quickly figured out she was telling him what to work on and then she was doing her own routine which appeared to…

A change up in the routine
For variety yesterday I started my strength routine with full power cleans instead of deadlifts or leg presses, which I alternate between on lift days. All I can say is wow! What a great lift. It totally worked the whole body. My shoulders were zapped enough after the cleans that i had to drop the weight on my flat bench…

Fit or Skinny
Are you trying to get "skinny" or "Fit" In this context "skinny" is losing weight to reach a desired number on a scale. Fit is healthy body composition with associated stamina, endurance and strength to engage in activities such rock climbing, kayaking, trail rides on horseback and the associated work with that, mountain…

Gym Observations
To those that saw my previous post about the dudes watching Soap Operas while working out, it was no fluke. The same guys were watching the same soap while working out and benching300+ on the flat bench. Funny as all get out. Back to why I posted though. I hit the gym to lift for the first time this week due to work…

Surreal Moments in the Gym
So I was in the gym for my typical weight training. A couple of the regulars were pretty much owning one of the bench press benches near a TV. These are a couple of very large guys in their early fifties and have clearly been lifting for years. I have noticed previously that they are in no hurry when they are in the gym,…

Favorite lift
For those training with weights: What is your favorite lift and why? Also which one is the one you hate but still do? For me they are the same. I currently have a love/hate relationship with the Deadlift. From an economic standpoint it is an awesome lift. It works so many muscles simultaneously. After working up to a good…

Real World Difference
This week I had the opportunity to see my efforts in getting more fit and healthy pay dividends in my day to day life. I'm a professional computer geek. Earlier this week I was tasked with racking 12 new servers in one day by myself. That is just the way it worked out. A year ago this would have left me tired and I would…

New to forums
I have been on MFP for 3 months and have found it crazy helpful. I've lost 38 pounds and have found the mobile app essential to success. Putting my caloric intake into black and white was very powerful in reinforcing good habits and encouraging me to stick with it. It is a good start but I still have a looong way to go.…
