I was inspired and motivated today in gym. It was a lifting day for me and I was doing my thing and noticed a couple that I hadn't seen before. It was a guy and a gal, both seemed late 20's approaching 30.
I quickly figured out she was telling him what to work on and then she was doing her own routine which appeared to focus on legs, shoulders and abs.
She was not the stereotypical female "lifter". She was blond, about 5'4" and probably 135 to 145. That would be a solid 135 to 140 in the 15% to 18% bodyfat ballpark. Yet she was very feminine.
Her routine involved many sets of deadlifts (at 205 ilbs and then 135 ilbs), power cleans and clean and jerks at 95lbs. Doing a one handed clean and jerk with 45lb dumbbell followed with a balanced one legged squat.
Her ab work was astounding and used some serious technique. She was doing sets starting with a gorilla chin/crunch followed by a "skin the cat" and then a hanging pike. On the flat bench she did jack knife situps while holding a 45lb dumbbell above her head. Reverse crunches with fully extended legs completely vertical on the finish. And tons I can't remember.
It was flat out inspiring and motivating. She was making it all look easy and fluid and it was the most breathtaking demonstration of power, grace, and beauty I have seen live.

"Like - like - like"
Yes - there are some strong "little girls" out there that can sure kick some butt!! I will never be a small girl (5'9'), but I am sure as hell going to be an inspiration one day to others that a girl doing weight training can have "power, grace, and beauty" ......0 -
Just to clarify. When I say stereotypical female "lifter", I am referring to the go pointlessly light for 15 to 20 reps.
All of her sets were in the 4 to 6 rep range.0 -
I was encouraged by a few men on MFP to do it and I love it! I feel stronger everyday... However I recently got stares (not so nice stares) from the guys at the gym when I decided to weight lift.
Well I love it0 -
::LIke button!!!::
I love using weights! I love the looks I get! I love feeling strong! I like asking guys for advice! They like it too!
I was doing dead lifts yesterday, and I probably had 15 guys who suddenly weren't working as hard as they were a few minutes before that. After i was done, one fella came over to the machine next to mine. He said hi like I'm supposed to strike up a convo. I giggled on the inside, and moved on! I love being a girl!0 -

Let them stare! Just don't let them intimidate you. Keep at it. Strong, lean muscles make EVERYTHING better!0 -
The body's capability is amazing and inspiring. My upper body strength has never been good, even when I was working on it. I'm trying again. My short-term strength goal is to do three "real" push-ups. I think part of the problem is fear of falling on my face--a very real possibility.0
