I think I'm skinnier than I actually am...
Does anybody else experience this? When I look in the mirror (at 5'4" and 230) I am *obviously* overweight. I don't know anyone in their right mind who would say otherwise. However....I don't seem to "see" myself as that big. Am I deluding myself? Am I in denial? I know of thin women who look in the mirror and think they…

What annoys you about your Zumba class?
Don't get me wrong, I love my Zumba! BUT... I get annoyed when the room is too small for the group and people are 3 feet from the wall and the instructor has us doing moves that requires us to move 6-10 feet in one direction. And then makes the comment that "it's ok if you bump into each other, you're still burning…

Just a little rant...
WHY is it that most doctors won't ackowledge adrenal fatigue? It's ridiculous that they acknowledge adrenal insufficiency but not adrenal fatigue! From the mayoclinic.com (emphasis mine): "Adrenal insufficiency can be diagnosed by blood tests and special stimulation tests that show inadequate levels of adrenal hormones.…

I don't get it...WHY do I want to eat my exercise calories??
Somebody 'splain to me like I'm 6. I thought the point of exercise was to BURN the calories, why on earth would I want to cancel that out?

Does your job make weight loss difficult?
My job sends me into convenience stores all day long. I basically look at and count food items all.day.long. I see and smell pizza, fried chicken, hotdogs, burgers, you name it. Chips, pastries, ice cream, candy, etc. I literally walk up and down the aisles and inspect all this stuff. It's hard enough having willpower just…

How much fiber?
I apologize in advance because this is definitely TMI but I figured you guys would know. Since going LC I have had a lot of trouble getting enough fiber. I've read that the high fat content of this woe will make fiber unnecessary, but that doesn't seem to be the case for me. I never used to go that often anyway (maybe…

Barefoot Zumba?
Anybody ever done this? Or seen anyone else doing it? I've noticed I have more energy (or just seem lighter on my feet) when I dance barefoot, and was wondering if this might help in Zumba? Thoughts? (Feel free to laugh at me, I know it sounds crazy!)

On low-carb diet, advice on upping carbs for heavy workouts?
ETA: *****PLEASE: This thread is not to debate the low-carb lifestyle. I just want to know if I double my calories (as a result of a huge calorie burn), is it ok to double my carb intake? I don't want to go out of ketosis.****** I usually keep my carbs around 20 and sometimes way less, with calories around 1500. I'm going…

need advice
I usually keep my carbs around 20 and sometimes way less, with calories around 1500. I'm going hiking today and I know I will burn approximately 1500-2000 more calories. Is it ok to up my carbs since I will be burning so many calories? Or should I stick to 20? If y'all think it's ok to eat more, how MUCH more? 30? I'm not…

Do y'all count the carbs in your vitamins?
I am trying to stay at 20 carbs/day but my vitamins are 8! I take several supplements but the two offenders are glucosamine (3g x 2) and my probiotic (1g x 2). I can't stop taking either one. Anybody know of a carb-free brand of either?

How did you find out about MFP?
6 weeks ago I got really serious about losing weight. It was right after my 40th birthday and I remembered thinking a year ago that I wanted to lose the weight before I was 40. Well, I didn't do anything about it a year ago so of course I didn't lose any. So, 6 weeks ago I just said "enough is enough", and I got online and…

worst foods you used to eat
I'm starting to realize how EASY it is to eat 2 or 3 times your recommended calories and not even feel like you've hardly eaten anything. I can remember making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and they must have been 700-800cals, maybe even 1000 cals. Of course I was aware that they fell into the "high-calorie" category,…

aother dumb question about BMR
I wore my HRM to bed last night and it says I burned 95 cals/hour while sleeping. (I read a book until I couldn't keep my eyes open, turned it on and went straight to sleep, and turned it off as soon as I woke up.) Your BMR is what it takes to stay alive, like if you were in a coma, right? So, it's logical (to me anyway)…

question about logging food
I log every bite, and make sure it's applied to the actual meal I ate it at. My son just adds up a whole day's worth of food and enters it all at once. For example, say he has a cup of milk at breakfast, another cup at lunch and another at dinner. Instead of reporting each cup at each meal, he'll just put in 3 cups in one…

smaller packaging = fewer calories = database slightly "off"
I got to thinking tonight.... Anybody that does a lot of grocery shopping has probably become aware of the trend towards putting less food in a container but charging the same price. I guess manufacturers figured that would go over better than just raising prices? Anyway, I started wondering about those times when I add a…

What changes have you made to your grocery shopping habits?
I have tried to make subtle changes because I know that I will end up quitting if I go too extreme too fast. So, I decided I would just try to gradually incorporate small changes into my shopping trips. These are more like psychological *tricks* to me, rather than actual dietary changes. For instance, I have started buying…
