First time intermitttent fasting - maybe a problem
My normal eating is from 9:15am till midnight - 5 or more "meals" - ketogenic 50gr carbs First day fasted from 2pm till 2pm was just fine - did 50 minutes weights at the gym at 11am with no issues. Second day - ate 1pm till 9pm, fasted till 1pm - took a 5000 step walk in the morning - but low energy. Third day like 2nd.…

Coconut oil and gym workouts
I typically do gym - 90% weight / machine three times a week - 50 minutes in the late morning. I eat breakfast at 9:15. I'm on a 50 carb keto - with coconut oil- heaping tablespoon three times a day. I'm on keto for both weight loss and neurodegenerative issues. Is their any advantage to having the breakfast coconut oil…

Targeted Ketogenic Diet
MY trainer was pointing out to me that [maybe six months ago] when I went off ketogenic for a while [but was still low carb]- that my strength with weights in the gym was higher than current. I'm concerned that increasing my carbs will trigger cravings - i'm currently losing 0.6 lbs a week. I'm thinking of trying Targeted…

Very frequent urination
From Friday till this morning I went off any attempt at keto - I was eating out - piles of home made food - no way I'm going to get the right value - so I guessed and the actual cals and carbs will be much higher. - All I know is that i've eaten much larger quantities than when I go on vacation Today I'm eating more…

Eating before walking
I'm going on vacation which will have several days of street walking and have been upping my amount of daily walking to try and prepare. I'm finding that I'm running out of steam. I can usually get about 25 minutes at an ok speed of 2.9 mph, then my speed drops to 2.6 and after I get to 45 minutes I'm hardly able to move.…

NSV that's not so good
Two weeks ago - I switched my dress pants from a size 46 to a 44 - same brand/style. Also punched two more holes in my belt [2" lost]. Lost about 15 pounds. Happy news at first. Problem is that the pants keep falling off when I start walking- waist is tight - so I'm not sure why. Internet search keeps coming up with -…

More moderate bars than usual when walking
If I go for a 30 minute walk - in the last weeks - I'm getting two or more moderate bars in the bar graph [and I usually don't get any] and getting around 30 active minutes. However I'm for sure walking slower and my gait is off. I'm walking around 2.7 mph usually I'm around 2.9. Why is fitbit indicating my walk is better…

Essentrics stretching - streaming videos
I've been reading her book - "Aging Backward" - and am considering getting a monthly subscription. http://essentrics.com/page/productdetails/all/ESSENTRICS_TV___Monthly_Membership.htm I've had some joint, range of motion and gait issues - and seen a sports medicine doctor who wants me to get a lot of deep fascia/massage.…

Improving "up from chair" muscles
In the last few weeks I'm more consistently able to get up from a chair without using my hands to push up. I've lost enough weight and gained enough extra leg strength that I want to push harder. I'm considering doing a set of ten chair ups several times a day. How do I know if I'm overdoing it and risking injury? 6' - 215…

Fasting Issue
I'm on keto in the 50 range. Yesterday morning at 11am I went for a 1 hour walk. I had semi fasted since 2pm the previous day, had a small leafy salad at 10pm the previous night. Before I went out I filled up with salt water. At 30 minutes- I started feeling dizzy and out of energy and my waking pace slowed. Bad enough…

Vacation preparation
I've been on walking vacations to NYC before - generally no issues - I let go of keto and eat more carbs than usual. Typically walk 14,000 steps a day [normally I walk 6k] Last year I had problems - first 2 days were fine, then had some kind of body distress where I could barely walk. No stomach problems. My trainer thinks…

Jason Fung book - Intermitent Fasting and low carb and starvation mode
I speed read this over the weekend - it convinced me enough that I'm now finishing a 24 hour fast. However I'm wondering that he seems to consider that "starvation mode" exists and I've always thought it was a myth. Am I in danger that my body gets used to me dieting? I"ve lost around 80 lbs and still have at least 30 more…

First time whey protein
On impulse today - I got a tub of whey - but I'm clueless on how to use it. I find it hard to get enough protein - so I hope to improve that. I'm running about 70 - my goal is 100. - I get most protein from cheese & Greek yogurt - some eggs, some tuna - also fish once a week. I only eat meat once a week. I do weights 3…

Short term pain in hamstrings when standing up from sitting at computer
After sitting at computer [with no pain in legs] when I stand up I get intense paid in the upper right leg. Can hardly walk, but after walking very slow for ten feet - it's 90% ok. This has been happening for 6 weeks - I thought I had torn something and it would clear up by itself. It happens also after standing up from a…

Keto and reduced energy in the gym
I've been off full ketogenic for several months - weight has been stable. In the last few weeks I've started to reduce the carbs again and have lost 5 lbs. My gym trainer claims my workout energy is no so good and claims its the keto. Problem is that he's biased against keto. What if he's right?

Sodium & Potassium on blood test
I started doubling my sodium intake and increasing my potassium about 2 weeks ago. I had a blood test a week ago. Does that show the effect of my change? Sodium is on the higher end of normal, potassium mid range. I'm guessing the "normal" range might be considered too low by many people here.

Too far back on treadmill
I don't use the gym treadmill much (only for warmups) - mostly do outside walking and use the gym for weights. Several people have pointed out that I'm often too far back and run the risk off flying off backwards, but I can't seem to correct this. Any strategies?

Could this be Keto flu?
I was on Keto starting mid 2016 [pretty much cold turkey], running at 30-50 carbs and losing 2lbs a week. At the end of 2016 I started an more intense 3 times a week weight program and slowed down on the keto to lose at 1 lb a week [at the advice f my trainer]. In July 2016, I wanted to take a break and try and stay at…

Weight terminology
My trainer is going to be unavailable for a while and will leave me a list of workouts. Most stuff e.g. "bench press" I can look and find online videos, and I know most of them anyway. But he uses a lot of other terms to convey details of form e.g. superset, pronated, supinated Rather than waiting till I get the list from…

What do you say when told not to lose any more weight?
A few days go I ran into a couple I have not seen for over a year. They were amazed at how I look [I probably lost 70 lbs since I saw them last and over a hundred since I saw them more often 3 years ago]. They asked how I would maintain my weight and I said I had more to lose [I need to lose at least 30 more, and more…

Vision issues
I've had vision issues in my right eye for around 15 years - I've worn glasses full time since was 12, but over the last few years - my right eye keeps needing a new prescription - for several years I needed a weaker lens but for the last 2 years a stronger one. I've been only on ketogenic [30-50] for 9 months so that has…
