Is there no pleasing anyone anymore?
http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/gwen-stefani-s-comments-about-her--chunky--body-make-us-sad-200122143.html Nutshell: Gwen Stefani tweets a pic of herself and refers to herself as "chunky". People proceed to get all butthurt. Are we entering an age where we can't even call OURSELVES chubby or heavy or plump or…

In defense of the cheat meal
I know the cheat meal/cheat day is a hot button topic at times here at the wonderful world of MFP, but I am a firm believer of saving a few calories every day so I can have a treat at least once a week. It keeps me on track and curbs cravings before they're out of control. My cheat day is normally Saturday, and I am having…

Word of the day
I nominate the word twatwaffle to be the word of the day. Use this word as frequently and loudly as you can through the day. Bonus points if you are either 1) thrown out of wherever you are for using it, or 2) punched in the nose for offending someone. Happy Friday.

What's this feeling I'm feeling?
I have a weird feeling in my stomach. Am I hungry, do I need to barf, or do I just have a suppressed desire to tell someone to f-off?

Motivation or "hate speech"?
So, here's an interesting article: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/fit-mom-temporarily-banned-facebook-hate-speech/story?id=21048325 What do you think? FB police did the right thing? I mean, this woman clearly hates everyone who doesn't have a perfect body just like hers, right? Or maybe FB police need to calm down and…

Anyone have a BladeZ 6.9T treadmill manual?
I got a used BladeZ 6.9T treadmill recently. It works great, but the last time I used a treadmill the options were pretty much limited to on/off/fast/slow, so I can't figure out how to program it and make all the other bells and whistles work. I emailed the company but haven't gotten a reply yet, so I don't know if that…

Evil DOMS recovery time
I am finally starting to return to normal from a really intense workout on Saturday morning. Yep, four days ago. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), but this was some kind of other-worldly, evil DOMS that I've never experienced. My lats are swollen to the point where my arms are…

Foam rolling problems
I recently began working with a personal trainer for general strength and conditioning after a layoff from my normal workout (rock climbing) due to injury. The trainer has told me to foam roll my lats because my injury was in a shoulder, and IT bands because I run on weekends. I understand that it's supposed to be a deep…

Bison in place of beef
My husband and I discovered bison a few years ago, and now it's our go-to red meat in place of beef. Lower in calories and fat, higher in protein, iron and vitamin B12 than beef, and it tastes great if cooked properly (not overdone and allowed to "rest" wrapped in foil before being eaten). Anyone else make this switch?

Mmmmm Quest bars!
This is an admittedly pointless post, but I just discovered Quest bars. I'm pretty sure I now no longer need other food. Dang those things are yummy and chewy and awesome! Sorry for the distraction. Nom nom nom (cinnamon roll)

Saying "hi" while running - okay or not?
I am not a runner, but I run on the weekends for fun. I don't know the do's and don'ts of the running community. So here's the thing... I run through a residential neighborhood and I like to greet people I pass when I run. Just a quick "good morning" or the like. Most people happily reply, but some runners seem really…

What's your favorite summer food?
Summer makes a lot of folks crave ice cream other frozen treats. I live in a warm place where ice cream year around is common, so my summer favorites are fruit. I just finished the most lovely nectarine, one of my favorite summer treats. I think my number one is fresh cherries, though. What's your favorite summer food?

Tongue patch surgery
Just read an article on a procedure called "tongue patch surgery". Basically they sew a surgical mesh onto your tongue which makes it physically painful to eat and in no time, POOF, you're a supermodel with a BMI of 16. I'm not joking. Seriously, look this up. This is the most bat-sh** crazy thing I think I've ever heard…

So if 3500 calories = 1 pound of fat...
I just did some math and came up with some pretty interesting but potentially horrifying figures. I took my net calories over the past 10 weeks, subtracted that from my TDEE for the same 10 weeks, and showed a total 15,022 calorie deficit for that period. If you divide that by 3500, you get 4.292, so in theory I should…

Wearing old pants today, and why that's a good thing
It's a good thing because they're the smallest pants I own, and I haven't been able to wear them in two years. Yep, I'm gonna go ahead and say it - I'm wearin' my skinny britches!!!

Timeframe for loss to maintenance transition
How did you decide when to transition from loss calories to maintenance calories? Did you do it immediately the same day the very first time you hit your goal weight, or did you wait a while? I'm actually inclined to get below my goal weight before going on maintenance, just in case, and I'm curious about other people's…

Grrrrr... Tennis Elbow - Again!
Dammit, tennis elbow. Again! Last time I got it I kept climbing and I was in pain for a year. So I'm not climbing, and my upper body muscles are already wasting away. Question: anyone else dealing with this affliction? Are there any arm/shoulder exercises that can be done with free weights that won't irritate the elbow and…

Ready to stop
Just returned from my honeymoon. I haven't logged a single thing since Thursday May 12th, and I've gained 2 pounds since then. However, I was under my goal by 1.5 pounds on the day I stopped, and I've eaten pretty much all I wanted to since then, and not exercised nearly as much as normal. I think I'm ready to stop logging…

Activity level, exercise calories & a dumb question
Preface: This may be answered on another thread. If so, I would be happy to be referred to the other thread. Until recently, I thought I had the net calorie thing figured out. I was dropping weight steadily and feeling great. I'm now eating the same number of net calories (I eat my exercise calories) and exercising more,…

Funny NSV
I was sitting down and dropped something. My automatic reaction to that is always to quickly put my knees together so that I can catch said dropped item in my lap. But this time, it dropped right through the gap between my thighs, even though my knees were touching! Okay, so it was a small item, but still, a year ago,…

Rules you get fit by
I have a few rules that I created for myself regarding my diet and exercise. They are: 1. Stairs: The stairs must be jogged. If I run out of juice, I may not walk the next flight, I must go down the stairs a flight at a time until I am ready to jog back up without a rest. 2. Climbing: I will climb no fewer than 15 routes…

Vacation: To log or not to log?
I'm going on a short vacation soon. Four days total, two taken up with travel and two rock climbing. As of this morning, I'm 1.5 pounds away from my goal weight. So the million calorie question is: do I log everything just like normal AND make sure I stay within my net calorie limit, or do I leave it to chance, eat what I…
