Bison in place of beef

My husband and I discovered bison a few years ago, and now it's our go-to red meat in place of beef. Lower in calories and fat, higher in protein, iron and vitamin B12 than beef, and it tastes great if cooked properly (not overdone and allowed to "rest" wrapped in foil before being eaten). Anyone else make this switch?

I use ground bison all the time as my daughter is allergic to most beef but seems to tolerate this rather well, make meatloaf, meatballs, use it in chili, I think it tastes better.

Love it in chili but it is a bit expensive. We rarely eat red meat but it is a great splurge.

I love Bison! It was once eaten more than beef in this country. I wish it wasn't so expensive as I'd eat it more often. Now I'm craving it! LOL!

Leaner is always better, few things beat a well marbled steak cooked well

Bison's not bad. I wouldn't give up beef though.

depending on if your eating clean , watching sodium or not, for a bison burger try adding onion soup mix packet to it, its delish.

For those of you who eat ground bison but haven't tried a bison steak, I highly recommend it. Just don't cook it like it's beef. My husband used some internet resources and tips for how to "properly" prepare bison steak, and he can grill them to a perfect medium rare every time now. Okay, now I know what we're having for dinner tomorrow night!

I would eat it in addition to beef, but nothing will ever replace beef in my diet.

Haven't made the switch because it's not easy to come by where I live yet. I've had bison, elk, venison...all delicious. Mmmmm...meat.

I've been obsessed with bison for about 6 years now. In the midwest it's not hard to get, but it's still very pricy so it's more of a special occasion meat for me. I wish I could use it exclusively.

I love going to Ted's Montana Grill and ordering bison burgers/steaks. We never actually buy for home cooking. I know Fruitful Yield used to stock bison burgers. I love all meats. Yum!

We raised bison on our farm for 9 yrs, and that's all we ate, no beef. But, bison are wild, they were getting hard to handle as our herd grew. They were hard on fences, corrals, and would stampede.

So, the bison went. Now we are back to eating beef, my brother in law raises cattle.

i honestly do not find a difference in taste, texture or color. Bison isn't as fatty, and it does dry out quickly on the bbq.

    I love them both!

Yes! We switched about a month ago, and I am loving bison cheeseburgers with swiss cheese on a little whole wheat slider bun... Drool...

It's about the same price as grass fed beef in Texas, but it's still just a once or twice a month treat for us, too.

I get it at restaurants, but it's still kind of pricy for buying at home. But I love it.

There's always beefalo for the beef lovers. Personally I like a good beef rib eye or beef ribs but I would give it up for local lamb any day.
