Vegan cookbooks
I just got a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble. I would like to get a good vegan cookbook. Any suggestions? I like easy recipes, not long & involved ones.

I'm sure you can get a salad there
I hear that a lot when I go out to eat with people that know I'm vegan. They have their own ideas on what being vegan means. If they want to know more I'll explain it to them. I'll give them a shortened version of health & ethical sides. But most of them have no clue. They think I only eat salad & tofu. When I go out to…

Starbucks Teavana Oprah Chai Tea Soy Latte vegan?
I called Starbucks' main office & they assured me that the new Oprah's Chai tea latte is vegan. So I had one with soy. It was excellent! Are they correct about the chai tea mix being vegan or not?

What to eat before walking
In the morning I have 2 cups black decaf coffee & a banana. About 1-1/2 hours later I walk 2 miles with my dog. It takes us just under an hour which includes her stopping to sniff the bushes & roll around in the grass sometimes. Lately I've been trying to increase our pace. About half way through our walk I've been getting…

Calories in strained soup stock recipe
I have a veg soup stock recipe I'd like to try. But I have a problem with figuring the calories, carbs, proteins, etc. It calls for onions, carrots, celery, minced garlic, water & spices. After cooking, the veggies get strained out so only the "flavored water" part (the stock) is left. It certainly is less calories, etc…

Need good walking shoes...on a budget
I walk at least 5 miles a day. 85% pavement 15% grass. I wear men's because women's aren't as comfortable for me. They're too narrow & tight even though I don't have a wide foot. Men's just fit better. What should I look for? I don't want to break the bank.

Fitbit Zip or Fitbit One?
What's the differences? I want to track steps, distance & calories. Optional but not necessary tracking for time spent on activity. I would like to wear it possibly in or on my pocket. I don't need a lot of bells & whistles. Which is better? What are the pros & cons for each one?

What food is your go-to for emotional eating?
I find that I go through cycles with different foods. Mostly it's something that I already have in the cupboard. Lately I've been dreaming of peanut butter & pita chips. Together or separately. When I realize I'm planning this I have to pause & look at why I'm upset, depressed, happy, mad, etc. You know--the excuses we use…

Turning negative reactions to positive thoughts
Sometimes when I'm feeling sorry for myself for whatever reason, or angry at someone or something, or frustrated, my first reaction is to comfort myself with food. This is the negative side which we all know about. I should step back and stop and think about why I'm feeling sorry, why I'm angry or frustrated. I need to…

Small NSV with Zumba
Three years ago I started going to a womens' day retreat in my area. They have Zumba for about 5 minutes after lunch to get us moving. The first year I was slow moving & couldn't catch my breath. Last year I skipped it altogether. This year I participated with no problems & I felt great! I could have kept on going longer.…

Need new pedometer
Right now I have a Sportline 345DS I got at Big 5 for about $21. I've had it for a few months & it's a piece of ****. It keeps resetting itself back to zero. Sorry I spent the money on it. I'm looking for a pedometer that tracks steps, distance, calories & time spent on activity. It doesn't have to have a lot of bells &…

NSV visiting family in Chula Vista
Clothes I bought 3 months ago in anticipation of a trip to sunny SoCal for my niece's wedding celebration were too big. Had to leave the shorts & sleeveless tops home. (Can't return--already washed. Have to give them away now) Stayed with brother & sister-in-law. Haven't seen them in over 7 yrs. First comment off the plane…

Cheating & feeling guilty
After 3 months on MFP today was my first cheat day. I tried to guesstimate on what I ate. I went over at least between 300 to 400 calories, maybe more. Now I'm feeling guilty about it & I'm beating myself up over it. Tomorrow I can proceed ahead to eat healthier but how do I get rid of those guilty feelings. How do I avoid…
