How much does your maintenance weight fluctuate?
For myself, depending on several factors like time of day, clothing, bathroom schedule, etc., I've seen fluctuations of almost 15 lbs. (!) from week to week. I try to keep a philosophical attitude about it, knowing that I maybe forgot to track this or that or underestimated something when not preparing my own food, but it…

Long Time Coming
Stepped on the scale this AM - which isn't a regular habit - and saw that, after 2+ years here, I've finally hit my goal weight. My measurements aren't where I want them to be, and it took a heck of a lot longer to lose less than 30 pounds than I expected or hoped it would, but I got there. Thanks, folks. We did it.

Women: How much does a guy's height really matter?
Height is something most of us have considerably less control over than, for example, weight; we're often told that judging a potential partner based on their weight is shallow. So, how important is a guy's height?

NSV: I need new underwear
I will grant that the elastic band of the underwear (multiple pairs of it) may be slightly less elastic than at purchase, but the fact is that it's now almost too loose to stay up on its own. Couple that with the obvious difference with how tightly my belt fits, and I'll call that a success.

Possibly silly question re: having blood drawn
The doctor wanted to run a few tests, so today I had a couple vials of blood drawn. In what way should I account for that in my diet for the day/week, if at all?

Personal Attacks?
I regularly see folks complaining that people who point out an error in their thinking are making a 'personal attack' against them. I'm curious: Did folks who got their answers marked off on exams in school feel that their teachers were making a 'personal attack' as well? Do you read this post - which names no names, and…

Something to keep in mind when citing research
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2010/11/lies-damned-lies-and-medical-science/308269/ The above article isn't 'news' anymore, but I have no sense of how well-known or understood the phenomenon it discusses is among most people, here or elsewhere.

What's wrong with circuit training?
I see a lot of negativity around here toward circuit training as an exercise choice. Could some of you knowledgeable folks clarify why circuit training is a bad option, for those who enjoy it, or at least where the negativity comes from?

Meal Variety: Necessity or Not
When I was in school, well before the internet became a thing most had access to, they taught us that it was important to have a varied diet, regardless of how nutritionally balanced a given day's menu might be, or else run risks of malnutrition. That said, I recognize that it's just possible that we might have learned a…

"Cheat Meal" vs. "Cheat Day"
I keep seeing folks talking about a "Cheat Meal" lately, and I admit it has me thoroughly confused. What is the difference between a "Cheat Meal" and a "Cheat Day?" How is a meal that doesn't put you over your daily goals "cheating?" If your "Cheat Meal" does but you over goal for the day, isn't that a "Cheat Day?"

NSV: No longer tachycardic!
When I started here at MFP, my resting heart rate was anywhere from 89bpm to 104, with readings over 110 not unknown. This morning, my heart rate after walking 20 minutes to the doctor's office was. . . 68. Woo-hoo!

Why does pizza have such a bad reputation?
I hear regularly about folks giving up pizza in an effort to eat healthier. Flyers plastered around the local college compare "high nutrient density foods" to "low nutrient density foods," with pizza consistently placed in the latter category. What's going on? If you were to eat two slices of multi-grain bread, 2 ounces…

Adding a Weight Routine to my Exercise: Critiques Welcome
Having gotten to within ten pounds (depending on the day) of my goal weight primarily through diet and cardio, I've decided to add a weight routine in order to improve definition and help work off that last ten pounds. With that in mind, I've looked at adding the following exercises thrice a week, in addition to my…

How long before you could see your results in the mirror?
Since starting MFP in December 2012, I've reclaimed a notch on my belt, gone back down a shirt size, and lost over 10 pounds. All that said, when I look in the mirror, I don't see less fat, more definition, or anything else I'd point to as a visual indicator that I've made improvements to my physique. I've also yet to hear…

Apparently I need more carbs?
I've been under my 1800 calorie goal (that number includes exercise) each day but one - not ridiculously under, just about enough wiggle room for a Naked brand smoothie - yet I find myself getting considerably less carbohydrates than the guidelines suggest. It's a large enough 'deficit' that drinking that extra smoothie…

Medium-sized NSV
I'm back to fitting in Men's size Medium sweats and shirts without feeling like I'll tear the seams if I move or stretch! Yee-haw!

Timed NSV
At the normal halfway point of my typical 50 minute walk the other day, I realized it had only taken me 20 minutes to get there. I had to walk further in order to avoid cutting my walk shorter than normal by time. Huzzah!

Age 41, meet the Great Metabolism Slowdown
Hi folks. Forty-one year old guy here. According to the scale in the house, I've managed to gain roughly 25lbs in the last year, so here I am, trying to fix that state of affairs before none of my clothes fit anymore. Thanks for reading, and any support.
