Is this bad?
Yesterday we had a Partner WOD Deadlifts and Shoulder to Overhead (any way you wanted) Two bars, each partner starts on a bar, does one rep, moves to the other and does one rep. Back to the first bar, do 2 reps, etc as high as you can go in 12 minutes. About 3 reps in I realized the guy I was partnered with was going to be…

Competitions
My box is pretty active in looking for competitions to attend, we just did one this past weekend. I opted out but plan on competing sooner rather than later. I'm an amateur photographer so here are some of the photos I took. Some good, some bad. Enjoy…

http://forevercrossfitliftupluke.eventbrite.com/ This is the link to our gym's fundraiser but boxes all over the country are doing the Luke WOD on October 11th to raise money for Autism. If your box isn't participating, ask about it. Fun even. I'm doing the $35 donation so I can score my first CF t-shirt :) THE “LUKE” WOD…

Wall Walks
Last time I'd tried them was on my elements day and just could not do them. almost 3 months later they show up in a WOD. I thought, I'll do the best I can but I'm not sure I can do them. They weren't perfect, but I knocked them out pretty easily. I was pretty happy about that!

Favorite Crossfit girls
Doing Angie tonight for the first time. So far Grace is my favorite though I have a lot of work to do form-wise on snatches. For those not familar, Angie is: For time: 100 pullups 100 push ups 100 sit ups 100 air squats. I will scale the pullups down to ring rows as I can't do pullups yet. I'm also curious as to how long…

What Angie tought me last night
1. I'm getting better at ring rows (did 96 before the 10 minute cutoff) 2. I suck at pushups (got to 86 before the 20 minute cutoff) 3. I REALLY suck at sit ups 4. I can do air squats until the cows come home.

Becoming a Supple Leopard
Just bought this book (more of a textbook really) from Kelly Starrett who runs mobilityWOD.com. Has anyone else read it? I'm really looking forward to using it to improve my flexibility and mobility.

DOMS
**** me. Monday's workout brought back the DOMS with a vengeance today. Weighted 1-mile run tonight ought to be fun.

My box is expanding
My box is located inside of a more general gym (one that is slightly better than your average Globo-gym too) and the owner is a BIG supporter of Crossfit. Mainly because he makes a hell of a lot of more money off the square footage dedicated to CF than he does the rest of the gym. So this weekend the CF box is taking over…

Tracking bodyfat
I've been looking into the best/most affordable ways to do this. Unfortunately I don't have any Bodypod or DEXA facilities anywhere near me that are open to the public (though I'm on the list for a phone call if a local one currently used in a research study does indeed open up to the public) I was wondering if some of the…

Dear JaneBShaw
I just joined a Crossfit box. Starting in July. Please go ahead and tell me what a mistake I'm making on this thread so I don't have to worry about your messaging me in private or anything like that. Then go away. Thanks Jeff

One week of testing
We are doing a week of test workouts to create a baseline against which to measure in a few months. Tomorrow: Run a 5k. I'll add the other ones as I get them, though I won't be doing them all. I will try to get in at least 3 of the 5. Hopefully 4.

Is it easier to fart standing up or lying down?
Science has the answer for us: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/seriouslyscience/2013/07/02/it-is-easier-to-fart-while-standing-or-lying-down/?fb_action_ids=895870196879&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_ref=.UdRMFIQHP4e.like&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=288381481237582#.UdTmEPnVAfX

Had to stop the Stronglift emails
For some reason I think Mehdi is losing focus on what his original ideals/goals were. As I read them they were to lift heavy with proper form and get stronger. Now half the emails focus on using "hip bounce" to do heavier squats, which is both not wise from an injury avoidance standpoint and not really getting you any…

This is why so many of us say "lift heavy weights."
Meet Joe, an 82 year old power lifter who can outsquat, out-deadlift and out-bench my 43 year old *kitten*. He is my new hero and is a perfect example of why I lift weights and why I will ALWAYS lift weights. http://www.ironcult.com/?p=1505

What is the female obsession with a 1200 calorie diet?
I'm honestly curious. Does one of the magazines like Cosmo push it as the magic number for dieting? As if that one number works for everyone large and small, strong or weak, short or tall? It just strikes me as very odd that half the diet related threads here involved 1200 calories and whether or not it's appropriate for…

Quick deadift question
Anyone can answer.... I've been noticing that my legs are never really gassed after deadlift day, unlike squat day or front squat/Romanian dead lift day. I think it's a combination of my grip strength (or more accurately lack thereof) as well as my trunk and abs doing some extreme catching up, but I was just curious if I…

Clueless people in the gym
I noticed the other day as I was working out that of the 10 or so people I saw lifting weights, only eight of them (myself included, of course) appeared to have any idea as to what they were doing. By this I mean using proper form, avoiding machines, etc. Seems to me like my gym could be doing their members a favor by just…

Week 4
Just finished week 4, day 1. Had to slow down a bit (5.5mph to near 5.1 at the last interval) but was able to finish with no real problems. I have to say, I think the program is to easy Week 3. On D1 I only did one interval at 3 minutes for for Days 2 and 3 I did 3 intervals of 3 minutes with 2 minutes rest in between. I'm…

What is the Slow Carb diet?
This text is taken from Tim's blog post regarding the slow carb diet and lightly edited. http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2007/04/06/how-to-lose-20-lbs-of-fat-in-30-days-without-doing-any-exercise/ It is possible to lose 20 lbs. of bodyfat in 30 days by optimizing any of three factors: exercise, diet, or…

Borderlands 2: Arizona
I'm a Lvl 48 assassin and am at the point where I need to kill Arizona (the new DLC) and am not quite strong enough. Anyone want to come kick some butt and give me a hand? xbl: bostonwolf. Also need to get some Halo 4 rolling. Bought it new and haven't even played it yet.

W2 tonight.
I've done the entire program before but hurt my knee/calf and had to stop. Gearing it up again. No problems at all with week 1. Will probably slow down my running pace a wee bit this week to make sure I can handle 90 seconds, but I think I will be fine. Anyone else starting up?

4 Hour Body Dietbet challenge
Hey all, I'm a big fan of Tim Ferriss' book The 4 Hour Body and he organized a diet challenge on Dietbet.com. You have 4 weeks to lose roughly 4% of your body weight. For me weighing in at 312, that is about 12.5 lbs.) Everyone puts in $50 and those who meet the challenge divide the entire pot minus 10% for charity. If you…
