Pre-Natals for the Vegetarian?
Earlier at my hairdresser, she commented how thin my hair had grown from dropping meat from my diet and adopting a new, very stressful lifestyle. She said she hands-down recommended pre-natal vitamins because it will give me a normal dose of vitamins plus a small extra dosage that someone who doesn't eat meat isn't…

What was your best 5k time?
(I checked the forums but didn't see anything so I apologize if there's another similar post going around.) I posted last night asking for tips because I was running my first 5k today -- the tips helped SO MUCH. I felt like I knew exactly what I was doing and I ended up finishing fifth (which I wasn't expecting in the…

Zumba for the Flat-Footed
Does anyone else here with flat feet do Zumba?

What are your favorite groceries?
I was perusing the forums in search of some grocery recommendations and didn't find what I was looking for. I've been trying to eat better since about February and there's still a few things I'm interested in, but haven't tried. I'd like to try almond milk, organic (or a more natural) peanut butter, oats (for oatmeal and…

Exercises for lazy people?
(I searched the forums and found similar posts but not with the results I wanted so I do apologize if there's another thread like this one.) A family member of mine who has been extremely unhealthy his entire life is wanting to exercise after seeing my improvement. I'm thrilled but it's very frustrating because of how…

Opinions on coffee?
This morning, I woke up with a HUGE craving for coffee. I have a cup of home-brewed coffee maybe three or four times a year (this does not include the occasional "coffee" milkshake indulgence drinks that I have maybe three times a year), so I splurged. I used Maxwell's Original with 4 tablespoons of Coffeemate's caramel…

Anxiety and Exercise
Does anyone else find their workouts are affected by anxiety? I'm sure I'm not alone but I could use some support on this.

Recipe Analyzer (Calorie Counter)
I don't know if this has been shared before, but I was searching around for a calorie counter to use for a personal recipe and found this: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php You plug in all your ingredients and it basically comes up with a nutrition facts table, then tells you the things you can improve…

Squats improving running times?
I typically average about a 7:30-8:00 mile. I started the 30 day squat challenge at the beginning of July and I've since then run a few 6:30-6:45 miles while my other times usually fall on the lower end of my averages. Did anyone else find that squats improved their running times?

I don't know whether to title this "uh oh" or "ouch!"
(Sorry for the length!) I've been running almost daily (with occasional rest days) since the end of February. I will admit I don't have the best shoes but I am currently planning on purchasing a pair soon ("soon" as in just a few weeks) and I haven't run as long or as fast as I want to yet because of this. I stretch before…

Greek Yogurt Pancakes
When it comes to healthy breakfasts, this probably isn't the best choice out there but today I decided I'd cheat ... kind of. So what better than some homemade pancakes? I got the recipe from here (http://www.lawfullyweddedwife.com/2013/06/27/greek-yogurt-pancakes/) but I'll post it below too! Ingredients (makes 4 fat…

Always Hungry
I'm 5'6", 120 lbs, and aiming to lose maybe 5 lbs more. I've had my settings at "active" but figured that was probably inaccurate since it does not pertain to a job, rather me moving around the house all day. A few days ago, I reset it to "lightly active" and kept my exercise the same (it spans anywhere from 20 minutes - 2…

Any survivors of the 30 day squat challenge?
The chart is here, if anyone is interested: http://25.media.tumblr.com/cdcba7d73632baccdccbcda697306d84/tumblr_mo8vebL8wL1qjw1qzo1_500.jpg I was 100% on board with the idea until I searched the mfp threads and found a lot of people said to use weights in order to get results. I have hand weights (3 lbs., 5 lbs., and 8…

Post-rain run
I'm itching to go on a run but it just stormed and now I'm scared of slipping and falling. It's actually a terrifying thought; any tips/motivation? PS. I've run after it rained once before and I think my shoes didn't slip!

A (not so) healthy BMI
I was playing around with some features on MFP that I've never used before and discovered the BMI Calculator. I plugged in all the accurate information and was told that my BMI is 19.4 -- which is on the lower half of the healthy range for my height. While I'm not necessarily striving for a number, I do have some excess…

Safety while running
This isn't exactly "chit-chat, fun, and games" but let's be serious for a second. I'm very paranoid (on top of my already severe anxiety) and I run my neighborhood everyday. I don't carry pepper-spray, a gun, etc. because I personally don't feel comfortable with that. I do, however, pre-dial 911 and hold my phone my right…

Hey runners, I have a question for ya'!
I've been running different 1 mile and 1.5 mile routes since the end of February and finally decided to increase my route. On the 18th, I planned and ran a good portion of a 2-mile route (I finished it all but walked a little bit). The 19th was very similar with the exact same route at the exact same time of day. Today I…

Logging cleaning
I have diagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder and -- while I've already factored in my daily cleaning to my lifestyle -- there are days where I deep clean for quite a few hours. Why is logging cleaning frowned upon? Edited for clarification

Fitspirations (and the Photoshoppers behind them)
This certainly isn't the first of its kind but I read this article and thought it was worth a quick look (even if you just glance at the photos)! It certainly made me think a little harder about my true "body inspiration." Warning: Article may be NSFW as it shows a woman in undergarments, though the photo is not anything…

How much exercise is TOO much exercise?
I hate to be "that person" but I actually enjoy exercising now. :embarassed: I love the way I feel during/afterwards and I've found several exercises I truly, thoroughly enjoy (Zumba and running are up there). I usually do about 45-60 minutes of calisthenics in the morning, and now I hope to follow that up with about 30-45…

Counting Calories
How do you know how many calories to eat daily? My diary is set at the standard 1200 at the moment (I've just recently made the decision to log food due to personal reasons) but I was researching what would be appropriate for my daily lifestyle and a few caloric calculators told me I should be eating 2200 - 2400 daily.…

Zumba on YouTube?
Due to paralyzing social anxiety, I stray away from group classes and gyms. I tried a yoga class not too long ago and, while I thoroughly enjoyed it and looked forward to the class everyday, I often left early or skipped sessions for fear I was being judged; doing the positions wrong; not keeping up with the class; getting…

Stomachs & Sodas
I believe I'm on the thinner side of average (I'm 120lbs and 5'6") but I've always had a little tummy. I've been a soda drinker for years and I'm convinced this is the reason my tummy's not going away. I've been drinking a lot more water and a lot less soda, but I still have to ask: For those of you who stopped drinking…

the downfalls of rocking a run
I run in my neighborhood everyday and as much as I want to listen to music, I'm terrified that my lack of hearing what's around me puts me in a dangerous place (especially since I'm a female). So I feel compelled to ask, what are your opinions on listening to music while running in public?

Having some slight problems with running
For people who don't want to read the entire post: I started running/walking a mile a day in February and saw amazing results in distance and timing for the first two months, but for the past month or so I can't lengthen my route past a mile and a half no matter how hard I try. I love running but I'm losing hope and I…

Let's do some yoga!
I've been doing a ton of running, walking, and playing Kinect Sports on the Xbox (add in a few weights and that's a workout in itself!) so I've grown extremely tired and I'm afraid of pushing myself too hard. I'd like to throw some yoga into the mix and -- as much as I adore my "Alive With Lilias" 80s vhs tapes -- I'd like…

Any (beginner) runners out there?
I'm willing to add just about anybody as a friend but I could use some more runners as friends! I'm still getting the hang of it, and while I'm satisfied with it, some days it's harder to get out there than others. If anybody has any helpful tips on how to further improve my running, I'd much appreciate it!

Perhaps a little pick-me-up!
I'll begin this post by admitting two things: Yes, I am slightly pigeon-toed and yes, I am very flat-footed. I knew when I started running -- nevertheless on neighborhood concrete sidewalks -- that it would be hard, both mentally and especially physically. I dread rest days and I hate taking it easy; however, I've been…

Funniest fitness problem?
I started running a few months ago and I've noticed that there are some weird things that happen when you start exercising. Everyone hears about the loose skin and changing metabolism when you begin losing weight, but does anyone hear about the weird stuff? Just this morning I saw a thread in regards to "growing" a tail…

Running my first 5k tomorrow!
Although I've been back into running for about 3 months now, I haven't run a race since middle school! Is there anything I need to know, expect, or prepare for?
