Opinions on coffee?

This morning, I woke up with a HUGE craving for coffee. I have a cup of home-brewed coffee maybe three or four times a year (this does not include the occasional "coffee" milkshake indulgence drinks that I have maybe three times a year), so I splurged.
I used Maxwell's Original with 4 tablespoons of Coffeemate's caramel macchiato (I know, I need it sweet though). The sweetener makes the 8 oz. cup of joe 60 calories (carbs: 9, fat: 3, protein: 0, sodium: 45, sugar: 7). I'm amazed at how full I've been all day! I ate both breakfast and lunch, but I haven't had a snack at all today (I have the worst case of munchies on a daily basis).
Would it be okay for me to drink one 8oz. mug of coffee (with sweetener) a day?
I feel I should add that I searched the forums and found nothing but "Is coffee good or bad?" types of threads. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere!

Coffee is full of antioxidants and also a natural appetite suppressant. The only thing that makes coffee unhealthy are the things we add to it.
People who should stay away from coffee are the ones with caffeine sensitivity issues, or anxiety problems.0 -
I drink a cup or two of coffee every day, with one tablespoon of sugar and one tablespoon of heavy cream. I just log it in my calories for the day. No problems thus far.
Enjoy your cup of coffee!0 -
why not? So many people drink coffee and it does not interfere with their weight loss. I have actually just started drinking coffee more frequently, maybe twice a week compared to 2-3 times a year! Just keep eating though cause if you drop below your calorie requirements people will say you are putting yourself into starvation mode..whatever that is...:drinker:0

I have come to enjoy it black. If you want to use it as an appetite suppressant then having it without sugar is critical. Try adding heavy cream, butter, or coconut oil.0

Hey! I have coffee daily and I have lost weight and maintained all while drinking coffee YUM! I would make sure you measure out your coffee creamer and sugar/ sweetener, but it all should workout! As long as you log your calories you are good. I would also make sure to add in an extra cup of water if you are worried about dehydration at all, but really one cup won't do anything.
Good luck!0 -
Kills the taste of the whiskey!!!!0

I drink 24-31oz of coffee a day. However, I drink it black twice a day so that I get the full benefits of coffee. In the mornings, I usually add a tbsp of vanilla creamer for taster but adding creamers can add 100s of calories very easily0

PS. Kudos to enjoying it black! I don't think I could ever do that :drinker:0 -
To me...coffee is a must...everyday!!! Count it in your calories and you are golden!0

I opened my diary in case anyone wants to compare today with my other days.0

My thought process with this as with everything else is:
1. Look up the nutritional info (calories, carbs, etc.)
2. Figure out if it's worth fitting it into your diet (that is, figure out what you're willing to give up for it)
3. ..
4. Profit!0 -
I don't function without coffee! Seriously it's my first thought in the morning. I don't use flavored creamers though. I say only you know if the 60 calories of creamer are worth it on a daily basis or not.0

A moderate amount of sugar is not going to harm you.0 -
Yes, as the other posters have said, there are many benefits to coffee. Just account for any calories you add to it and you're good to go!
I could never give up coffee.
Also, thanks for searching the forums first before posting. I truly want to help others as many MFPers helped me, but it does get tiresome seeing the same questions asked over and over again. It would help if the search button were more prominent.0 -

I've seriously cut down my coffee due to the milk & sugar that I was adding. A few cups a day adds up to calories that I could spend on food.
I've cut down to 1-3 coffee's. I used to have 2 sugars I now have 1. I've tried sweetners (Equal, Splenda etc) & I hate that after taste. I just can't handle it in my coffee, I can have it in other things but just not my coffee.
If your concern is the sweetner, do a search on the forums for that & you should get a few hits.0 -
I drink 3-5 cups everyday (yes that is alot) I love my coffee..and yes I use my creamer... I only use a tsp to a tbsp ..depending on how dark I make my coffee thta dya. I dont usually include that in my diary...but I know its there.. Its worth it to me..that is just one of those things I wouldn't give up..I gave up my candy bar a day..or donut every other day.. I think I should be able to use my coffee since its not that detrimental to my weight loss... obviously 28lbs later!0

The short answer is yes.
The long answer is yes.
You obviously want to drink it, you had a positive emotional and physical reaction to it, and it did not harm you in any way. That means, yes.0 -

Coffee ummmmmmm YES!!!!!0 -
My only suggestion would be better quality coffee. Quality is paramount when you're talking about coffee.0

3-5 cups a day with Splenda and Coffee-mate. I record it in my diary. It keeps me awake so that helps burn calories. lol!0

I don't see why you couldn't have the coffee with the creamer. A little sugared creamer isn't going to kill you. Just make sure it fits your macros. After a while, if you want to quit the creamer, just wean off slowly. That'll give your palate time to adjust to the taste.
ETA: I drink 2-4 cups per day black. I put a little milk or creamer in it on the weekends as my treat.0 -
You are totally allowed to spend your calories however you wish.
On Saturday, I had (in addition to the rest of my "regular" food) three beers, a bowl of ice cream, and five oreos. I also rode my bike for an hour and finished the day with 30 calories left to spare.
I woke up on Sunday morning weighing 0.4 lbs less than the day before.
I promise, I super duper double pinky swear, you are totally allowed to spend your calorie allottment however you want.0
