Perhaps a little pick-me-up!

I'll begin this post by admitting two things: Yes, I am slightly pigeon-toed and yes, I am very flat-footed. I knew when I started running -- nevertheless on neighborhood concrete sidewalks -- that it would be hard, both mentally and especially physically.

I dread rest days and I hate taking it easy; however, I've been doing both for about a week or so now after my right thigh began hurting like nobody's business. Today was my first day back out jogging/running. I gradually began one of my favorite local routes and ran almost the entire route. I was struggling and as I rounded the last tenth of my route or so, I seriously contemplated walking the remainder.

Near-tears at my personal disappointment and absolutely drenched in sweat (it's 90 degrees out today -- yikes!), my neighbor's 7 or 8 yr. old son rolls down the sidewalk on his bicycle and hollers, "Good work! Your body's crying because it must be so proud of you!"

So I did it -- I began full-on ugly crying and when I got in the door of my house, I ran all the way upstairs to my bathroom and stood in front of the mirror and cried some more.

He may be 7 years old, but he'll never understand how much that compliment means to me. So from me to you: Your body's a piece of marble and everything you do to it makes you a better sculptor. Believe me. You're the only person to make this piece of art and it doesn't matter what anyone else says as long as you are satisfied in the end

That is awesome! You can do it, struggling or not. You can DO IT! Great job on the first steps!
