Diet To Go
I'm curious to know if anyone else is using Diet To Go? I've just finished my first week and I'm really enjoying it. The food is good and it's nice to take a break from meal planning for awhile. I lost 50 pounds a couple of years ago eating less and moving more...yes it definitely works, but then a series of things…

How Many Daily Carbs Do You Eat?
I've been eating around 20 - 25 carbs for about a week now and testing my blood sugar to see what effect it's having. I don't have a blood sugar problem but I was probably borderline. The two readings I've taken have been 72 and 84 (fasting), which is great. But I don't see being able to stick with 20 grams a day for much…

Before I buy this book, I'd like to know what people's opinions of it are. Thanks!

Increased Protein Intake Protects Muscle Loss
A lot of us have been following this advice for awhile but here's a study that helps support it. "This study essentially confirms what body builders have shown us for a long time -- a high protein diet helps prevent muscle loss when trying to lose fat," said Gerald Weissmann, M.D., Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal.…

Why “Clean Eating” is a Myth by Armi Legge
I LOVE Armi Legge. He's so smart, so real and gets to the heart of things without making you want to pull your hair out. He's made me a critical thinker in an area where I've always let my emotions rule over common sense. Being desperately unhappy with your weight will do that. Being desperate for years will make you grab…

No Seeing Any Progress
I hope you guys can help. I've been losing and gaining the same three pounds for about 2 months now. I've kept meticulous records in a spreadsheet of my daily calorie consumption and since getting a Fitbit, my daily calorie output. Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Height: 5 feet and 1/2 inch…

Need A New Routine...I Think
I've been doing Strong Lifts for a couple of months and I'm bored with it. I worked with a trainer for 12 weeks prior to starting SL and I'm no stranger to free weights. I belong to a gym that has great equipment but just one squat rack which always seems to be in use. That will probably get better once the kids go back to…

Working Out Without a Spotter
I go to a gym to work out but I work out alone. As I increase the weight I'm lifting, I worry more about lifting to failure and having nobody to assist. I mean there are people around, mostly high school age boys, and I could yell for help but geez that's embarrassing. Does anyone else have this issue and if so, what have…

I think I can do this...
Today I ran for 3 minutes. Not just once, but a few times. If you had told me two weeks ago, when running for one minute seemed almost like dying, that I would not only run for 3 minutes, but almost enjoy it, I would have told you you were crazy. Looking ahead to next week and the week after and freaking out serves no…

Sodium...Should I worry about it?
I've been a little lazy lately and eating more processed, packaged food than I normally do. I convinced myself that because it came from Trader Joe's it was okay :) But even when I cook from scratch, I LOVE soy sauce and find that it can make even the most boring food taste good. I buy the low sodium version but it's still…

Ankle Pain
I thought I had put this behind me but it's started up again now that I've done a few walks/jogs outside. What can I do to strengthen my ankles? It's the ligament or tendon that runs down the outside of my ankle that starts to hurt.

Starting Monday
Hello everyone! I've been working out for several weeks now and have progressed to 1 minute jog, 2 minute walk intervals. Today I set a personal best with my first under 17 minute mile. I decided that if I'm going to progress, I need a plan. So, I decided to give this one a try. I still have 70 pounds to lose and the one…

Clean Food Exceptions
Each of us has our own standards by which we deem a food clean or not, but what foods, that are not necessarily clean, do you make exceptions for and eat anyway? Mine are mostly dairy: 2% Cottage Cheese Laughing Cow Cheese Organic String Cheese Applegate Farms Organic Cheese Slices Boarshead Low Sodium Turkey & Roast Beef…

Is there any real reason to give up wheat produts...
If you're not actually gluten intolerant? I gave up wheat, for the most part, because I thought it was necessary as part of my new "clean eating" approach. I replaced wheat bread products with sprouted grains. Which is fine, I like them. They are just more calories and more expensive than their wheat counterparts. I like…

The Numbers Are Driving Me Crazy!
I will just go ahead and apologize up front because I know this has been discussed to death. I am just really struggling trying to come up with the correct number of calories. I will try and be as succinct as possible :) Age: 51 Current Weight: 199 Height: 60 inches Body Fat: 40% Goal weight: 130 (for now) History: 5 weeks…

Portion Sizes
There's bound to be lots of questions about portion sizes so I figured I'd just start a topic. One thing I just noticed is that a serving of grains is smaller in Phase 3 than it is in Phase 1 so that's something to pay attention to. I'm in the 60 pounds and over group but I cannot double the portion sizes, it's just too…

Protein Snacks
This has been the most challenging thing for me. I'm mostly not sure of the portion sizes. In the book she says that a snack of deli meat is 2 oz. But what about tuna or egg whiles as a snack? In regards to the nitrate-free jerky, does it have to be sugar free as well? Any suggestions for other protein snacks?
