Vasovagal Issues and Exercise
So I'm really starting to get frustrated. I really need to get back in the gym. I was doing really well for a while and had a really good routine going with cardio and lifting. After a few weeks, I started having issues after lifting with vasovagal response. Basically, I get extremely dizzy, sick to my stomach and…

My Hubby is Amazing!!
We have been hitting the gym pretty hard for the last month and I have been able to get into the weight room a total of 1 time. It's fairly small and always full. We have a old set of weights at home, so when I left the gym today aggravated that I wasn't going to be able to do my next Strong Lifts session he did this for…

Hoping Quality = Quantity
I'm not new here, but I've been inactive for a while. I'm back with new goals, a new approach, and a new perspective. Rather than focusing on pounds and inches lost, my goals are to simply to enjoy a better quality of life and take the steps necessary to reach that ultimate goal. My hope is that by putting the focus on…

No Excuses...(well, maybe a one or two)
I do not deal well with change. Last August I had gotten into a really good routine of diet and exercise and was seeing slow, but steady results. Then I started my last semester of school. In the interest of graduating in December I took on a pretty heavy course load. I had a plan as far as fitting everything into my…

Spaghetti Squash
I'm giving spaghetti squash another shot. Honestly, I got frustrated trying to cut the darn thing open last time and literally threw it out the back door, lol. So recipes, along with your tips for getting inside to the good stuff would be awesome!

Your BIG Reward
I like the idea of rewarding myself when I reach milestones in my weight loss. Right now I'm itching to get out of the 220's so I can go get a pedicure! I try to come up with a new small something every time I reach a new goal, but lately I've been thinking about the big picture. Reaching 100 pounds lost is definitely…

National Lazy Day
So apparently National Lazy Day is a thing, and it's today. Seriously? Considering the fact that according to the CDC over 1/3 of American adults are considered obese (myself included) and the percentage of children who are considered obese has tripled in just one generation, I can't get on board with the encouragement…

What's it your gym bag?
Now that I've joined the ranks and am officially on my way to becoming a gym rat, I'm curious. If you work out at the gym, what are your "gym bag essentials"?

Stronglifts v. New Rules
I just finished reading New Rules for Women, but the workouts seem overly complicated to me. I scanned the Stronglifts website a little bit ago, and it seems a lot simpler and much more doable for me. Any thoughts or pros/cons between the two programs?

Doing the Truffle Shuffle!
...and I couldn't be happier about it! As the inches are coming off my waist and my skin is no longer stretched to capacity, there's a lot more movement going on. I do hope that that all that extra jiggle isn't here to stay, but in the meantime I'm going to use it as a reason to celebrate because jiggle = progress!

Foot Pain/Shin Splints
I do OK for about the first mile of my walks, but then the shin splints start and the middle toes on my left foot start to cramp/go numb. I'm thinking it may be footwear related. I have a pair of Nike Reax, but I have a feeling they are not nearly supportive enough for my goals. I'd like to be able to finish a 5k and…

Joint Facebook Account w/ Your SO?
Looking through my list of "friends" on Facebook, a pretty big chunk of them are shared pages with their significant other or spouse. I personally just don't get it. Although my husband is my main PIC (partner in crime) we are definitely not the same person. We have different interests and while we obviously have friends…

Lifting is "bad for you"
OK, so this is one I haven't heard before. I just started reading "New Rules for Women" and realized that once I really seriously get started lifting that the weights I have at home are probably not going to cut it. So until I have the funds to build up our home gym, I'm going to have to suck it up and hit the gym. I have…

Help Me Stay on Track -- Suggestions Needed!
I am starting my last semester of college in a couple of weeks, and in the interest of graduating sooner rather than later I am taking 14 credit hours. Two of my five classes are online; another two are "cram" sessions that are about four weeks each and on campus; the fifth class is a traditional semester class taken on…

Tattoos -- Yay or nay?
I am definitely a pro-ink kind of girl. I have one on the back of my neck and am planning number two -- a memorial tattoo for my dad who passed away last year. My hubby is pretty much covered and I LOVE them :) A man with quality ink is SOOOO sexy IMO.

Restriction versus Empowerment
I had a bit of an epiphany this morning. I was gassing up the car and noticed the Dunkin Donuts sign in the service station window. Almost instantly I felt that craving for the largest French vanilla coffee they had loaded with cream and sugar and a chocolate covered, cream filled donut. Then I caught myself thinking "No,…

What is your jogging speed?
I am slow...slower than a turtle riding a wave of cold molasses slow, but I am determined that one day I will be a runner. So I was just wondering for comparison and goal-setting purposes, what is your typical jogging/running speed? I clocked in at a sad 4 mph this morning.

Protein Powder
I have been struggling to hit my macros as far as protein goes, so tonight I picked up a can of powder from Walmart. I made sure to check the labels on the different options and ended up purchasing the one with the least amount of carbs/sugar (2g of sugar I think) and 30g of protein per serving. I'm pretty much a newb when…

When do you weigh?
I'm a little OCD about numbers, so it is very easy for me to get a bit obsessive about my weigh ins. In theory, and according to my personal weight loss plan, I am only supposed to weigh once a week, but I find myself jumping on the scale pretty much every single morning. On days that I do weigh it has to be as soon as I…

Exercising with an injury...
I am an absolutely K-L-U-T-Z. A few weeks ago I was showing my kids my awesome 90s dance moves to some Vanilla Ice when I almost died. I was doing my absolute best running man when I somehow twisted my right foot under my body and I was down -- literally -- down. After a few minutes the pain had subsided, but there was a…

How does one become a "morning person?"
I am so not a morning person and thankfully I have a mid-shift job that allows me to take my time in getting up in the mornings. The earliest I'm up in the mornings is around 7:30, but it's usually closer to 8, and I could sleep every day until noon if my hubby would let me. So my schedule right now is get up around 8ish,…

"Here I go again on my ooown"
Well, not really, but I love random song references, so it just felt right, lol. My name is Chrissy and I have around 100 pounds to lose. I have struggled with my weight for the past 13 years or so and while I've had moderate success at losing in the past, I find it really, really hard to stick with a healthy lifestyle and…
