Thoughts and opinions needed please...
I have been in weight loss mode for so long I am not sure I know how to do anything else. I am at my goal and wish to move into more of a maintenance plan, but slowly. I can't just up my calories and everything drastically overnight so. I used calculator.net which I have had luck with in the past and here is what I…

Be happy but never satisfied!
Did it. Done! I am hovering between 110 and 115... I don't indicate an exact number here because of several factors including loose skin, not to be gross but more bathroom (movement) to go lol, etc. My plan is to maintain between 115 to 120 as my individual healthy weight is around 120. Funny, I love being skinny and I…

On binging...
My own personal thoughts. Maybe it can help someone, maybe not, just my own view on it. The bottom line is the urge to binge is caused by not eating enough calories throughout the day. Another fact is that when a binge occurs, it never really truly satisfies does it? Nope, just makes the person who binges feel bloated and…

Tricky!
So I was all excited about the different Pam and other brand spray oils e.g., olive oil, butter flavored, etc. In big bright letters and even on the nutritional label it indicates zero calories. So how cool is that? I can have butter (tasting) popcorn without the calories and oil and salt and all that crap. So here I am…

Gum junkie
Hello, my name is Cushman and I am a gum-a-holic! Seriously... Orbitz Sweetmint gum has to be the most addictive thing in the world! I could chew a pack a day, and have at times. I know for some folks it makes them hungry but not for me. It works like a charm to signal the end of my meals, keep my mouth busy, keep the…

Resetting goals and challenges...
I had previously been involved in a fitness challenge and through a lot of hard work, ups and downs and support of a wonderful boxing team I was able to meet the three challenges/goals that I had set for myself. My fearless leader and trainer likes to do a little talkie full of words of wisdom at the end of each session. I…

Challenge
I read so many comments and posts that indicate how folks did really well all week and then fell off track over the weekend, and are "starting over" on a Monday. I have been guilty of this myself. It is so counter productive in my opinion, like three steps forward and two steps back ya know? So I would like to propose a…

Eating back exercise calories
How do folks generally feel about eating back exercise calories? I have heard that it is a good practice to eat back about half, others eat back all of the calories burned. To me it seems sort of counter productive to burn calories and then eat them all back. Opinions? thoughts? practices? Thanks!

Shakeology
Can I just mention, that I love and am hooked on Shakeology! No... I am not an agent or whatever the heck you call them. A friend of mine gave me a sample packet and I ordered some, one time ship for a combo pack, from the site. I totally believe that real food trumps a shake all day long. However, I love using this as a…

Eating on the weekends... advice wanted.
I realized that I am being too lenient with myself over the weekends. I do make an exception for date night which is either Friday or Saturday night with my husband. That's okay because I typically plan for the calories. We go somewhere nice and have pretty much whatever we want from appetizer to dessert. However, it seems…

My favorite cardio day
Just wanted to share  Tuesdays are my favorite cardio day... Starting with a regular early morning elliptical wake and burn for a quick 100 calories. Fitness Center at work today has a really good Piloxing class (kickboxing / turbo jam). If you've never heard of it, Piloxing is a mix of Zumba, Pilates and Dance set…

Lessons learned and some peronal thoughts...
It has been 10 months and I have lost 62 pounds. I have two more to go... yes, they are vanity pounds but we all have that magic number in our heads for whatever reason. (my before/after photo is at the end of this post) I am just thrilled with my progress and MFP along with my recently purchased Fitbit have both been a…

No wonder why....
I work from home a day or two a week and I almost always have the TV on in the background. Not that I watch it but it kind of provides some white noise to help me concentrate. Now and then I'll take a few minutes, or a break and flip the channels a bit (I am not really a TV person), but what I notice is that 80% of the…

You can do this!
So in some of my other posts I had mentioned losing a few vanity pounds. Although I didn't need to lose more, we all have that magic number in our heads, even if it's an unrealistic one, that we'd like to hit. I got really close a couple of weeks ago and decided to go back to the beginning when I began my journey, go back…

Restaurant portions
Are just out of control! I can't imagine who needs three, four or five servings on a plate! I think it's a mental thing... most people feel that they want to get a lot for their money. Personally, I'd rather have healthy, well cooked, well presented thoughtful food in a very small portion than a heap of crap on my plate…

Can't get my heart rate up...
It takes me almost 45 minutes of high impact cardio to even break a sweat. Yesterday I did 60 minutes on the elliptical burning 500 calories and I couldn't get my heart rate even into the 110's. I feel excellent, a ton of energy, can go forever so what's going on here? I can push myself like no other, get sweaty after a…

Better health and annual cold / flu
Here is something I noticed... Since eating clean and exercising daily I noticed that I don't catch colds, etc. as easily. In fact, every year for as long as I can remember, weather I get a flu shot or not, I get the flu and it puts me down for a week. This year, last Monday in fact, I felt it coming on in the afternoon.…

Skinny rice
Just wanted to share... I found Skinny Rice. It looks like white rice but has all of the same nutrient benefits of brown rice. It is also low on the GI index. A good alternative to other types of rice :)

Thoughts and advice please...
Ugh... I feel like I am coming down with something... runny nose, sort of a sore throat, itchy ears.... I mean I feel okay, but not right. As of now I am planning on boxing tonight like usual but honestly my body is telling me to go home, wash up and get in bed. I have no appetite, just want to get warm and get sleep. I…

Question about a protein drink...
Wondering if anyone knows... I use GNC Lean Protein 25 shake for a meal replacement and it just occurred to me that the serving size indicates 'Two scoops' for 200 calories. Does anyone know if the scoop it comes with actually equals two scoops? or is that just one scoop? Thanks!

Hit my goal
I am at my goal. Time to maintain. I love my new healthy and active lifestyle. Take it from me... It's not easy but with dedication, support, discipline and support you can do this!

Advice needed please....
I have been involved in a fitness challenge over the past several weeks and this Saturday is my final class and will be my final measurements. I feel as if I have met my goal but I am not going to weigh myself between now and then. I want to be surprised when I see that I not only met my goal but surpassed it  I am…

Angry
Does anyone else get extremely angry and nasty if you have to skip a workout or miss a class for some reason? I tell ya... when I have my workout schedule, nutrition and work day planned out and something comes up to cause me to miss a class or regular workout I turn into a raving you know what! hahaha

Do you make exceptions and what are they?
My mom is an amazing Italian cook and while she always cooks healthy using all natural and home-made ingredients, Italian food can get up there in calories depending upon what you're eating. Also, it tends to include large portions, breads, pasta's, wine, various meats, etc. However, no matter where I am in my calorie…

Portion control
just some thoughts from my personal experience on potion control. It has taken a while but I have finally learned the fine art of portion control! haha It's amazing how we grow up (most of us), being told to finish our plate or else. You go to any restaurant around, unless it's gourmet or fine dining and it's all about…

Being tricky...
I am not sure why this works so well for me but almost every day when I log my foods, I intentionally put it just a teeny bit more in terms of portion size or things I eat. Or... sometimes when I do eat the things I have logged I'll end up eating less or eliminating something for the day because I'm not hungry or whatever,…

Staying on track
I find that if I record my foods, snacks and miscellaneous items either the night before (for the next day), or early in the morning it really helps me to stay on track with my foods and nutrition throughout the day. Since I am a very plain eater and enjoy sticking to the same types of foods for the most part, it's fairly…

Protein shakes
I am not selling anything nor do I work for any type of fitness or nutrition company. Just a friendly tip for those in search of a good protein shake / meal replacement. GNC Lean Shake 25 is a yummy and filling protein shake! It comes in vanilla, chocolate, fruit punch, cookies & cream and banana. It has 200 calories per…

Question about Orthorexia
I am not sure if this question belongs in this forum. If not, please someone feel free to tell me and/or move it. Thanks. Does Orthorexia involve being particular about how ones food is laid out or cut up or placed in the plate? And, does it involve being overly concerned about the way or order in which food items or…

Does this happen to anyone else?
Yesterday I decided to bump up all of my numbers e.g., calories, carbs, fats, sugars, protein... Background is I know I am not eating enough calories throughout the day and even though I feel really, really good on a super low calorie target eating mainly meats and veggies I wanted to see what would happen. Now... I know I…
