That's exactly why I don't watch TV anymore. It's ridiculous, the vicious cycle that the industry has created in order to trap the masses.

I always have to laugh when I do see a fast food commercial filled with healthy, fit actors.

I think WW is quite a sensible way to lose weight.

I watch very little TV so I haven't noticed any trends with ads.

no wonder why what??? People are fat becasue they eat too much...not because of what they eat.

I just finished two servings of fruit loops AMG sugary cereal....and a piece of toast with butter...and my Tims Coffee...
.....meanwhile they're scoffing down a double bacon fried (processed/fake) chicken sandwich, large fries and a sugary drink. Ya right!

Demonizing food is not good...saying food is bad is not good...

double bacon fried chicken breast fillet at KFC has a tonne of protien in it...which you need, it has fats which you need, French fries have potassium and I prefer diet coke.

Again it's not what you eat...it's about how much you eat...hence the obesity epidemic.

I just had a bacon Ranch grilled mcwrap with a medium fry last night... It's all about moderation and balance. There's no smoke and mirrors involved with my weight loss or adherence to my diet.

You must be new here, OP. I suggest taking a look at some others' diaries on MFP. JonnyThan's is my favorite, although there are plenty of others that give him a run for his money.

You can eat whatever food you want, including two double bacon cheeseburgers from McD's, and still lose weight. It's all about calorie deficit, not food types. And before someone brings it up, it's possible to meet your macros eating fast food too.

I like to say pizza is a complete meal, if you have meat and vegetable toppings. Protein, fat, and carbs. What more could you ask for?

TV is not there to entertain or educate you. It's there to sell soap flakes and it always has been. And advertisers sell to you by using your fears and "inadequacies" to motivate you. Once your eyes are opened to their tactics it's a little easier to stomach because you don't feel as manipulated. But I was never happier than when we got our first TIVO and could finally skip past the commercials without having to videotape every show we liked. That was years ago and we never looked back! Now we just watch for product placements in the shows and movies, lol!

We are given quick, high fat and calorie choices because that's what we've shown we want, through sales. If people didn't buy them, nobody would make them. And as for people who "don't have time" to eat healthy- give me a break. Every day has 24 hours, and we choose what to spend our time on. we make time for the things that are important to us. If people don't have time to prepare healthy meals, it's because it isn't a priority and they didn't make time for it.

Wow... as usual it's nearly impossible to make a post blanket statement based on a personal observation and OPINION without folks being rude. Whatever...

I'm not new here and yeah I GET it's about how much you eat and not so much what you eat. But thanks for your unsolicited opinions on the matter.

And no, smoke and mirrors here either, I've lost close to 70 pounds in under a year and I can tell you it wasn't from eating at McDonalds. Again... simply an observation of how the market is inundated with poison and how many people fall prey to that advertising. I'd expect nothing less from a multibillion dollar industry.

There is a bill board on the highway near the city where I work, it depicts a large McDonalds type of card board container but it's filled with broccoli instead of fries. The tag line reads "Think outside the box" and that's it. I love it.

    Then end.

That's funny... I don't remember saying that nor do I remember soliciting for opinions. But I do I welcome opinions and intelligent argument (key word there being intelligent), not just rude outbursts and snide remarks. To each their own. Again, my post was simply based on personal observation in terms of marketing and advertising. I really could care less what other people are eating, to each their own. You must be new here, OP. I suggest taking a look at some others' diaries on MFP. JonnyThan's is my favorite, although there are plenty of others that give him a run for his money.

A bit of an exaggeration lol

If I were to eat 2 double bacon cheeseburgers from Mickey D's it would be nearly all of my total calories for the day which is 1600 on off days (The bacon clubhouse burger with reg bacon is 720 cal), add fries and a soda and I would be WAY over and not even be close to my macros. Same for the pizza. (For some that have reached their goals or who are bulking this may work though.)

True though...you can meet your caloric/macro needs while eating fast food. You just have to make better choices.

I think the point the OP was making (and I think she was just posting it as conversation not really to educate....bored maybe?) was just how TV ads are geared toward mindless eating and quick fixes (all unhealthy and glamorized.) (Most of the population isn't educated in caloric intake vs needs...although with the foods we have out there they should be IMO).

Naw I had a huge piece of pizze with sausage, pepperoni, salami, ham, bacon, black olives, mashrooms, onions, 2 types of cheese and it was 381 caloires....oh and the crust was smothered with olive oil to make it crispy...

And a bacon cheeseburger from MacDonalds is 340 calories and 18g of protien (which isn't a bad ratio esp if you order two and get rid of one of the buns)and who says you have to have fries...eat a salad and drink some water...

No, you actually decided to attack those with varying opinions for making a statement. I choose to be snarky because I find this hilarious. No one here stated, "I eat nothing but donuts and McDonald's" but I suppose those with closed minds probably interpret it that way.

There's this thing called moderation that actually works and people maintain great health and fitness with it. You can eat as you will but your way of dieting is not the only way and it's just common courtesy to respect other people's opinions. Even if they're different. Take everything objectively not offensively and you might not get so bent out of shape.

I agree. Those are better choices.

That was the point I was making. There are ways to make fast food options work. You just have to be aware of what your eating and not just order the first thing that looks good.

I've done that recently. Wendy's Grilled Asiago Chicken Club (omg that thing was good). I ate it first...then looked up the calories....over 500 smh. I thought I was doing good lol (I even got the tiny frosty)

Either you want them or....you don't.

The quickest way to "solicit" an opinion is to post an idea in an open forum for the world to see.

If you only want the opinions of people that agree with you and filter those that oppose.....speak into the mirror.

I work from home a day or two a week and I almost always have the TV on in the background. Not that I watch it but it kind of provides some white noise to help me concentrate. Now and then I'll take a few minutes, or a break and flip the channels a bit (I am not really a TV person), but what I notice is that 80% of the commercials are about either food or weight loss. The rest being about car sales haha.

The food commercials are almost always chain restaurants boasting about their HUGE and fast portions loaded with all kinds of unhealthy stuff... The food product commercials are always about a "quick" way to fill up e.g., breakfast bars, coffee shop offerings, highly sugared cereals/spreads, etc. No wonder why weight is such a problem. The media literally inundates us with super sized super processed food choices all in the name of eating fast and saving a buck! Also... ever notice the commercials depict actors and actresses that are fit and healthy and full of energy... meanwhile they're scoffing down a double bacon fried (processed/fake) chicken sandwich, large fries and a sugary drink. Ya right!

The weight loss commercials are even worse. "Here, take this pill or drink this shake and lost 10 pounds in five days". Again... Ya right! If it were really that simple, no one would be over weight!

It drives me crazy and I feel for those who are pressured, triggered or fall prey to the media in this way. I especially feel for those individuals with kids and a busy / hectic lifestyle who just don't have the time to investigate foods and/or plan meals, take time in the grocery store and/or cook healhy meals.

It's not the company or the advertisers fault................it is the individual that decides they want to go and gorge themselves on a serving size that is intended to be 2 meals to begin with.

People need to start taking personal responsibility for their own actions. Own it and then change it.

It's no one's fault except for their own.

Oh I totally agree with this! I didn't want to say it for fear of a virtual stoning but agreed 100%. Personal responsibility is out the window and it's disgusting. People blame their weight and issues on everything... marketing, social, emotional and what's worse is the med field has a label, and a med, for everything. Put on a band aid instead of taking responsibility to fix the core issue.

...and thanks for the valuable and different perspective vs. jumping on the "let's be rude and ignorant" bandwagon.

    Yes, this (above).

And yes, you can eat anything you want if it fits into an overall plan, or not, not my business really... yup... live and learn.

Put on a band aid instead of taking responsibility to fix the core issue.

...and thanks for the valuable and different perspective vs. jumping on the "let's be rude and ignorant" bandwagon.

oh you mean the one you are driving and the only passenger of....Yah...you are still alone with rude and lack of knowledge comments....ie ignorant.

In a desperate attempt to seem more mature than everyone, the OP uses passive aggressive text...
