Looking for exercise buddy(s) around Philly
I'm a 42 year old male who lives near Glenside, PA. I feel like I need someone to keep me from slacking off, Maybe you're in the same boat. My idea is to exercise together 3-4 times a week. I was thinking of starting with walking a few miles and down the road crossover to running. I was also thinking of doing bodyweight…

Net or Gross Calories
Does anyone know how RunKeeper calculates calories burned? Is it net calories or gross calories? Same question for MFP.

Trying to start over. Need help.
I downloaded this app last February and started my journey on Feb 17, 2014. I was 286.0 lbs at the beginning. Everything was going great. I was working out 6 days a week, eating healthy, and finishing my final semester at college. I graduated with high honors and continued to eat well, exercise, and lose weight. On July…

Garmin HRM vs. Polar HRM
I see many people on MFP singing praises about Polar HRM and have found articles on the web that seem to concur with this. However, the HRMs for Polar do not work with my iPhone 4. I am trying to find an HRM that works with RunKeeper and my iPhone 4. Garmin HRMs do work with RK and my phone, however, I can't really find…

D-Day June 6, 1944
70 years ago tomorrow, 156,000 Allied Soldiers Invaded the Normandy region of France. The average soldier was 20 years old, so they would be 90 today. Operation Overlord was and still is the largest seaborne invasion in history. Most people remember the Americans, British and Canadian forces that were there, but there were…

Transition from walking to jogging.
I have been walking 5-6 times a week and have really increased my distance and speed. My cardiovascular system is greatly improved. The last month, during walks, I have had strong urges to break out into a run. My hesitation is this. Despite having lost a lot of weight, I am still considered obese by medical standards. I…

Calling all nerds - Doctor Who
First, I'm not trying to cause offence or start anything, but I have a genuine question. Are there other nerds out there who dislike Doctor Who? I feel like I am the only one. It holds no interest for me and the several episodes I've watched bored me. To all the fans out there, I have no ill will. I'm glad you enjoy it and…

Love Cardio. Hate Strength/Weight Training
I absolutely love doing cardio work. I'm addicted to it. But I absolutely hate doing strength training. Does anyone have ideas to make strength training more fun? I know how important it is, but just find myself putting it off for another day.

When to buy new clothes?
What are other's experience with this. I certainly need to buy new clothes. What concerns me is I have been consistently losing weight and do not want to buy clothes I might only wear a month or two and have to turn around and buy more. Any thoughts?

Losing pounds but not losing inches.
I have had no problem losing weight, but my physical measurement changes are minute or nil. I'm doing both strength and cardio. What's going on?

Still sore after 30 days
I walk 6 days a week, alternating longer/shorter distances. Not surprisingly in the beginning, I was sore and my muscles tightened up within a half hour of completing my walk. It's been 30 days and this is still happening. I would have expected this to go away or at least minimize. I stretch before the exercise and warm…

Lightheadedness.
Anyone experience this? The last few days, I've been experiencing this, usually when I get up but a few times when I was already standing. I haven't experienced this while working out and I did a pretty strenuous walk today. I found a few websites that said this could be a side effect of raw food when you begin, but I've…

Are Spices Raw?
Spices are dried, but not cooked (unless that's how the big companies do it now). Can they be considered raw? I was thinking of adding nutmeg and/or cinnamon to my smoothies.

Food Addiction
I know this is a very controversial topic, but I think everyone should read the following two articles that discuss food addiction. Strengthening legs vs. other parts of body
Okay, so I saw my doctor the other day and I mentioned I was going to start strength training since muscle burns more calories than fat. My doctor told me to just do cardio and build my leg muscles because they are the largest muscles and would produce the best results, rather than work on other areas. I had never heard of…

Calories burned
Okay, so for the first time I used RunKeeper which many people on MFP seem to like. It told me I burned 270 calories. Out of curiosity and trying to gauge accuracy I checked a few online calculators and got between 260 and 283. Okay, it seems to be pretty accurate. Then I tried to use ones that also includes heart rate,…

Pico de gallo
I was thinking of making pico de gallo if I can find some tomatillo. My question is what are different things I can put it on? I'm used to having it on tortilla chips which of course is not raw.

MFP overstating exercise calories question
I'm fairly new here, 1 month, and recently I've found several people saying that MFP overstates calories burned. I've done search on the boards, and couldn't find a answer. How much is MFP overstating by? I don't want to be eating back more calories than I should.

Anyone use Pact formerly known as GymPact. I have questions.
Okay, so I signed up for Pact and am doing 2/3 of the pacts. Food logging and vegetables. I understand what is happening with getting paid or getting charged. My question is this. I completed the vegetable pact for the week. Do I just wait until the next week before taking pictures/logging of the vegetables or do I…

Help getting started
I joined MFP a month ago and have been losing weight with adjustments to my diet. Now I want to work in exercise. My fitness level is poor. I know my cardiovascular system is shot and I should work on getting that better. I also know that muscle helps burn fat faster. I have no access to a gym, so I have to work with what…

Fasting
Does anyone have any experience in fasting? I'm curious what kind of fast you did and your experiences. I've read about the many benefits of periodic fasting, but also it is not recommended in people who are trying to lose weight. I was considering doing a 1 day fast, but I wanted to hear other people's experiences or…

Exercising Partner in Warren Co, PA or Chautauqua Co, NY.
This is a long shot, but I thought this might be the right place to look. I have trouble motivating myself to exercise and I thought having a partner to keep me accountable might be the way to go. Contact me if you're interested.
