This 1200 calorie minimum thing...
I'm assuming that figure is for a normal sized person, however I'm only 4' 10" and only have 19lb to go to leave "Overweight" and reach the upper limit of "Normal" - should I be aiming for a lower net amount? My weight loss, which had been 1lb a week, has stopped albeit only for a week. Thing is, although I realise it…

Food Junk - Food that is bad for you
This is my kind of blog! http://foodjunk.wordpress.com/2012/03/02/japanese-gateau-du-mont-blanc-kit-kats-a-review/ I've been amused by it for a while, it's one guy's funny take on all the foods I don't eat any more - he tries them so I don't have to! He's just been nominated for an award by a serious food mag -…

Anyone tried dietopathy?
Has anyone on here tried dietopathy yet? I'm thinking of using it to lose a few extra pounds, but am worried that it might put me into starvation mode. :frown: http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/health/diet-industry-and-homeopaths-to-collaborate-on-biggest-load-of-bollocks-ever-201203215034/

Fabulous motivational posters - lost a thread..
A while back there was a thread on here where loads of members posted some really great posters, I was sure I had it bookmarked but cannot find it now. It's the sort of thing that our new members would get a lot of benefit from. Searching on the word "poster" on here just gets threads about members, and a google image…

Dinner party starters - what's YOUR favourite?
So what are your absolute favourite healthy recipes? For New Year's Eve, we're each doing a course, and I'm doing starters. I usually rely on various seafood options for healthy starters but one of us is allergic to all kinds of seafood & fish, so I need to actually think about this one!

Alcohol abuse - this is so wrong, but I might do it anyway!
So, I have healthy food in the fridge, but a craving for wasabi peanuts / peas that are only available at a supermarket which is miles away. I also have a saved half bottle of wine that I have enough calories for today. What I could do is drink the wine now, so I can't drive - then the only way I could get to those snacks…

Alternative to BMI for healthy weight range for the very sho
While I feel that the BMI can be a useful tool for the average person, it's thought that the formula is inappropriate for people who are very short or very tall. (Obviously it's useless for bodybuilders too!) My question is this: Can anyone point me to a resource for a suggested healthy weight range for short people, which…

For those intimidated by Week 5 of C25K...
I confess. I was utterly intimidated by Week 5. The jump from 5 mins to 20 mins running seems insurmountable. A ridiculous jump. Because I'd had a migraine and was still feeling rough (and partially because I chickened out) I had repeated W5D1. Today, instead of W5D2, I decided to take the "Timed mile" test that my gym…

Sodium - for those who enter foods...
I am TRYING to track my sodium, and was surprised how low it was today, on a day when I'm eating pre-prepared snacks. After checking, I've just had to change half a dozen foods because the sodium content which has been entered is ridiculously low... If a food says 0.5g sodium, please don't enter it as 0.5mg... There are…

NSV - Silly little things that say "this is working"
This morning, I reached over to turn off my mobile phone alarm, and couldn't find it on my bedside table. Normally, it's simply at the extent of my reach - but this morning I realised I was more flexible than I used to be and my hand had gone "past" the phone. Running intervals, I realised that my heart rate is now…

HRM accuracy ~ Running intervals when unfit
My Polar FT4 seems pretty accurate with calories, but I'm curious about one issue. I'm running intervals, but as I'm not very fit yet, my heart rate takes a relatively long time to reduce, even when I'm walking in between. However, all the HRM can calculate on is my heart rate, so it's presumably assuming I'm still working…

Feeling like giving up on it all
Having a really low day. Not lost any weight this week, or fat % or inches. I know it varies, but I really needed to see progress. Feel like giving it all in and having a HUGE easter egg. I've done really well, been to the gym regularly, measured my calories with HRM, eaten sensibly including a large chunk of my exercise…

What do you say to the "go on, one won't hurt you" brigage?
On a recent thread (link below) several members posted their replies when people try to push unwanted and unsuitable food onto you. I usually simply say "No thanks, I'm not hungry" and change the subject, but that thread got me wondering how other people handle it - I'd love to hear what other people say in that situation.…

Running? Is it possible... ME of all people?
I am a total beginner to running, I've never been able to run, I don't think I'm built for it. And.. well running is something that happens to other people, right? Fit, slim, athletic people! BUT - after going to the gym three times a week since February I've progressed from being a total basket case with a clicky often…

Calories burned in "strength" training - clueless, help!
Having decided to eat most if not all of my exercise calories, I'm a bit stuck to know how many I'm burning doing my strength training. Presumably more for lower body than upper body. Obviously, as I've not worked out for over ten years I'm in pretty pathetic shape for now, and have only been at the gym for a few months.…

Eating "exercise calories" the following day
I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on this. At least three times a week I go to the gym and burn, on average, about 350 calories a session. Due to an improving but still dodgy knee I don't want to exercise every day yet. I don't go primarily to burn calories, though that is a nice bonus, the point is to get stronger and…

Overweight Tomboy Brit, working out regularly - friends want
The thread title says it all really. I'm British and fat and weak (physically and food wise), I've been going to the gym three times a week for the last six weeks, but while I'm getting a bit stronger and fitter I have only lost a pound of fat. Frankly this is because for years I've been stuffing far more food and drink…
