What even is a strength training program?
I'm (clearly) very new to strength training. I'm a cardio gal, but I'm looking for something new and to build muscle. I joined the gym today, used the machines, and now feel sore (but good). What's wrong with doing that a few times a week and pushing myself each time? Everyone talks about strength training programs. Do I…

New Here!
Joined the gym today, did a bunch of random weight machines, and decided I needed some order with my workout. A lot of questions and research led me here. I'm a runner but I need strength training in my life. Give me all the advice you can (how to start, what to do, what not to do, what to wear, what to eat, etc.)

I Want To Start Swimming
I got really into distance running this year and I've been running 20-30 miles a week. I ran a 10 mile race a few weeks ago and finished in under 1:30:00! Im worried about getting lazy when winter starts because I hate using treadmills in the gym, so recently I've been seriously considering getting into swimming. Im…

It's Been a Year
Today marks one year since I began using MFP! When I started, I weighed 174 pounds, and now I'm 125 (I'm 5'6). I feel so much happier and healthier. I found a love for running and I'm training for my first half marathon this summer. 174 lbs-155 lbs- 130 lbs 130 lbs- 128 lbs- 125 lbs 166 lbs- 142 lbs- 125 lbs 50 pounds made…

How Does This Make Sense?
How am I 1220 net calories over my weekly goal if I only went over my daily goal twice?

Should I Lose More Weight?
I've lost about 50 pounds in the last year and I'm thinking about beginning to maintain my current weight and focus more on fitness. I'm 5'6" and under 125 pounds. I could lose almost 10 more and still be a healthy weight, but I never imagined I'd have to get all the way to the bottom of the healthy weight category. As you…

Runner's Success?
I started taking running pretty seriously about a month and a half ago as I began training for a half marathon this summer. I'm already noticing some changes in my body and I'm really excited about it. I'm interested in seeing (and hearing about) success from other runners for motivation. GO!

Vomited While Running
Sorry for posting such an icky topic, but if you made the choice to open this, I'm sure you can handle it. Just over four miles into my run today, I started to feel a little nauseous, so I began to walk, but then I started to throw up. I pride myself in my "stomach of steel" and the fact that I never get sick from…

Comments: Helpful or Hurtful?
Am I the only one who doesn't like when people comment on my weight loss? It's great to feel noticed for an accomplishment, but for some reason, I annoyed every time someone gives me the typical, "you look great!" What's even worse for me is when people ask how much weight I've lost. I think it bothers me so much because…

These Shorts Were Too Tight!
I bought these shorts, a size 12 from H&M when they were too tight, with the expectation of shrinking into them. I remember putting them on and looking at myself and feeling great. In this picture, I had been dieting for three months and had lost almost 20 pounds! The shorts were obviously too tight here, but I was feeling…

Underwear Pictures
I wasn't planning on posting these pictures, but I was looking through my collection and I thought I could inspire some newbies. Sorry if you think they're inappropriate or offensive. I'm about 5'6". The first picture is from July 1 and I weigh 167 lbs. The second picture is today, January 5. I am now 133 lbs. My goal is…

Six Months and 37 Pounds!
A brief summary for those of you who do not feel like reading: Starting weight: 174 Current weight: 137 Goals: Probably about 130, gain muscle. Height: 5’6” I know this isn't a giant weight loss like some people post, but I lost 37 pounds in six months, and that's a big deal to me. I don't have amazing abs and I'm not a…

Heart Rate
Today when I was on the elliptical, my heart rate got up to 210. Usually it stays around 180-200. Is this too high? I keep the elliptical at a pretty high resistance and go for an hour. I am 20 years old, 150 lbs, and female. Is there a way to calculate what my heart rate should be?

Calories From Walking
Should I count all the time I spend walking to class as cardio? I'm a college student and I live 20-25 minutes from campus, so I walk about an hour and a half to two hours every day (sometimes more). I also use the elliptical, so MFP calculates that I'm burning like 1,000 calories a day through exercise. I usually don't…

Hungry College Student
I gained the 'freshman' fifteen during my first two years of college. I lost it all over the summer, but I'm going back to school this weekend and want to be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle on a budget. I worry about eating nothing but carbs and fatty food (and alcohol) and gaining all the weight back. Does anyone…

Disproportionate
I'm looking through pictures of me and my friends at a 5k we ran this weekend and I'm noticing that my legs are much smaller than everyone else's while my stomach and arms are huge. I mostly run and bike for exercise, but I also do abdominal workouts a few times a week. I've heard that to slim down your stomach you need to…

My shorts are too big
My shorts are too big, but I'm going to wear them higher on my waist and pretend they are high waisted shorts because clothes are expensive #swag #12poundsdown

Discouraged
I began running again a few weeks ago, beginning with 1.5 miles, then moving up to 2. I'm running a 5k in less than two weeks and I really really really need to be able to run that distance since I'm competing with friends. This morning I set out to run 2.5 miles and struggled with it and ended up walking part of it. I…

Plateau
I successfully lost 10 pounds gradually over the course of about a month and a half. Over the last couple weeks, my weight has plateaued at 164 lbs. I have increased my cardiovascular activities to 20-60 minutes 5-6 times/week. I typically consume about 1,400 calories/day. Does anyone have suggestions for continuing my…
