Wow...my new running NSV!
Earlier this week I posted about my first 5K being this weekend and my running wasn't going well. I did w7d1 successfully (25 minutes straight) but then on days 2 and 3 I floundered. I was only able to do 15 minutes at a stretch. I decided I was overtraining and decided to only walk the rest of the week to rest before the…

Running Plan prior to first 5K
My first 5K is on Sunday. I'm only on week 7 of C25K so don't plan on running the entire thing (it usually takes me 2 to 3 weeks to complete one week of C25K anyway because I repeat things). On week 7 day 1, you run for 25 minutes straight and I did it! Then for week 7 day 2, you're supposed to do it again and I couldn't.…

At what point should you go down to a 1 lb per week loss?
I've been struggling lately, despite upping my running and workouts. I have a slower than average metabolism so I was netting about 150 less than my BMR, though I would go over a bit several times a week. This weekend, I decided to up my daily goal to my BMR, which is 20 calories over the 1 lb per week loss that MFP…

New workout gear!
From a recommendation on these forums, I ordered some new clothes. I LOVE the two things below so thought I'd share! The bra is just awesome for us top heavy girls (I'm a 38E and ordered a 40DD) and I love that the shorts aren't super short but still work for running. http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/MCL323/…

How has your resting heart rate changed?
Mine has changed pretty dramatically, especially since starting running a couple months ago. It used to be 84 and now it's usually 64! Yay! How about you?

Shoe issue
OK, I went to a running store and got fitted and just LOVE my Nike Zoom Structure shoes. I've been wearing them for a month or two now. I ordered another pair, same model, same size, but another color. I wore them walking last night and they don't fit the same way! They seem narrower. I have wide feet and was surprised I…

Numb foot while running?
Last night, I completed W7D1 of C25K which involved 25 minutes of running. My left foot, for maybe the last 5 minutes or so, was somewhat numb. I've only had this happen one other time (I think also the left foot, but not positive) on the treadmill. Once I stopped running it was fine. What causes this? Poor form perhaps?…

Another running NSV!
I completed W7D1 of C25K last night. I ran for a full 25 minutes, albeit slowly, and completed TWO MILES! My pace was about 12.5 minutes. I couldn't even run half a mile as a kid (though I'm sure I was trying to go MUCH faster back then LOL). Almost makes me think I could run the whole 5K in a week and a half. We'll see :-)

Body Fat Percentage Scales
I don't see how these can be very accurate or effective. How do they work? I assume they just use some formula based on your gender/height/weight? If so, I could accomplish the same thing with the scale I already have by using the formula.

1 Year on MFP - Lots of Pics
As a background, I have always been heavy - at least since I hit puberty. I have PCOS which caused very rapid weight gain once I hit puberty. I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I've tried losing weight before and short of starving myself, diet and exercise would work only for a short time. I very quickly would reach a…

Do you measure less in the am?
I know why we weigh less in the am, but do we measure less too? I normally measure at night and have been frustrated that while I've been losing weight, my measurements haven't been changing. I measured this morning and boom...GOOD movement in my measurements. Was it just finally showing up, or do you measure less in the…

Wow...a surprising NSV for me!
I've been working on C25K for over 2 months now. Not entirely sure when I started. I've been going slowly and repeating weeks. I started week 5 a long time ago, then ended up going back to week 3. I repeated that week a couple of times then did week 4 two or three times. I started week 5 again, and did the first two days…

Question about Disney Races
I'm considering signing up for a 5K at Disneyworld when we're there this fall. It starts at 7:30 am. So, does that mean the race STARTS then, or the packet pickup starts then? I'm trying to figure out what time I'd be done and able to head to the parks that day. This is the 5K I'm considering:…

Opinions on two jogging strollers?
I'm NOT interested in plunking down $300+ for a BOB or some other popular jogging stroller. Given that, I'm interested if anyone has opinions on these two strollers: http://www.juststrollers.com/jogging-strollers/instep/instepsafariswivelsinglejoggingstroller.cfm or…

High protein pancakes
These are German "egg pancakes". They were a tradition in my house growing up and I now make them every Sunday for my kids. You can eat them with anything. Favorites at our house are peanut butter, nutella, or my personal favorite, raspberry sauce (just cook frozen raspberries with a little sugar). Syrup works just fine…

A funny NSV
I ordered some new bras from Zulily. Zulily is a sale a day type website and doesn't allow returns. So, buying clothing for me from there (it's mostly kid stuff and I buy stuff for my kids frequently) can be hit or miss. I purchased some Le Mystere bras from there a month or so ago and they're a bit too large. Anyway, I…

Huge NSV - Running
I began losing weight almost a year ago. When the weight loss slowed, I added exercise in October of last year. Just walking. I gradually added time and speed and hand weights to my treadmill walks. When I started needing to walk for an hour to get the calorie burn I wanted, I decided to try C25K again - I had tried it…

Weight Loss isn't linear! It's OK to have a gain.
So many people seem to get upset if they have a small gain one week. I thought I would share some screen prints of my tracking. I have been doing this for almost 12 months. I record my weight EVERY Wednesday whether I've gained or lost. Sometimes the gains were only water weight and are gone within a day or two and…

Beating the dead horse - calories
When I started with MFP almost a year ago, I told it I wanted to lose 1 lb a week. It gave me my calorie goal and I tried to stay within that each day, and maybe twice a month have a free day. It worked well for about 5 months (I lost about 30 lbs. in 5 months). Then I hit a plateau and added in exercise. I eat most, if…

Exceeding max heart rate?
I posted this on a thread I had started about jogging on a treadmill but it got lost in the thread. Opinions? I do have an HRM. And sometimes I exceed by target MAX heartrate. I'm 37 so it should be 183, correct? I frequently exceed that on the longer running stretches - usually my max is between 186 and 192. How bad is…

Jogging on treadmill vs outside
Easier on the treadmill, harder, or the same? I am treadmill only since I live in the country and there are no sidewalks and I'm wondering if it's harder outdoors or not.

Today's NSV
Over the weekend, I snapped the shaft on one of my rings. I wear two rings, my engagement/wedding band soldered together, and a sapphire ring on my other hand (which is the one that snapped). I've been wearing my engagement ring on my middle finger a lot lately because it's too big. So I took the one to the jeweler to be…

Anyone have a Nordictrack machine that tracks HR via Polar?
I just set up my new C900 Pro treadmill. It comes with a chest strap from polar and reads the HR. I have a Polar FT7 too. My question is, is there a way to set my stats in the treadmill so the calorie burn is accurate? I couldn't find a way to do it, so I ended up wearing my watch too, and the calorie burn was about 50…

Strength Training Video?
I've gotten really good with my cardio workouts, but don't do much strength training. I think I need a video to follow (going to a gym is not an option - I work out after the kids are in bed). Can anyone recommend a good strength training video?

My new toy...
a little/big reward for myself LOL. I can now get rid of the used ProForm one I've been using!

NSV...on the treadmill last night.
I ran. Well, jogged actually. For almost 6 minutes straight at an incline of 5 to 8%. I've been walking on the treadmill since October and gradually did things to increase my calorie burn. I started walking 3.0 MPH for 20 minutes with no incline 3 times a week and worked my way up. As of last week, I was doing about 40 to…

My first success post - pics included
I started MFP at the beginning of May 2011. It's slow going for me, due to PCOS and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but it is coming off, just slowly. I'm averaging around 1 lb. a week. I'm now 9 lbs away from my first big goal and should reach that within a couple more months. After that, I'll set a new goal. I am currently at a…

Venting - HUGE losses in short time
I am not a small person. In fact, I am still quite a ways from being out of the obese category, even after losing about 40 lbs. Most of the time I find the success stories inspiring but sometimes it just ticks me off. Yes, I'm a bit jealous at the rate MANY people are losing weight (I'm averaging about 1 lb per week), but…

How accurate is your Polar FT7 (or other HRM) on your restin
When my FT7 first turns on and registers my heart rate before I start working out, it seems high to me. It's usually high 80s or low 90s. If I take my pulse myself, I usually get low 70s to low 80s. Anyone else have that issue? It could cause significant differences in calorie burn, couldn't it? If it's overestimating my…

When I get discourages, I need to remember....
that I've come a long way. It's slow going due to PCOS and Hashimoto's, but in the last 8 months, I've lost about 38 pounds. I'm smaller now than I've ever been in my adult life via healthy method. I tried on my wedding dress today (I'm 2 sizes smaller now) and I can put it on and take it off without unzipping it LOL.…
