At what point should you go down to a 1 lb per week loss?

I've been struggling lately, despite upping my running and workouts. I have a slower than average metabolism so I was netting about 150 less than my BMR, though I would go over a bit several times a week. This weekend, I decided to up my daily goal to my BMR, which is 20 calories over the 1 lb per week loss that MFP suggests.
Just curious when most people would recommend moving from a 2 lb per loss level to only 1 lb. I have lost 50 pounds and have another 45 to go.
I also need to follow up with my endocrinologist since my thyroid appears to be on the decline again. I thought I could make it until my appointment in July but given my new found issue of being cold all the time, I'm thinking sooner is better.
