New to the Bench Press - Need Advice
I did my very first bench press ever! I did 55 lbs 2 sets of 8! Started with a "warm up" of just the bar and 8 reps. Now I'm hooked and I want to do more...weight that it. So how do I make this happen? What other exercises and what muscles should I focus on to improve my bench press? I need things I can do at home as well…

Limiting Carb Options
I consider myself a Low Carb dieter. That means I eat carbs but I get them for the most part from dairy, veggies and fruit. I try to stay away from bread, pasta, rice, crackers, cereal, etc. Why? Because I don't feel good (feels like lead in my stomach) when I eat them and tend to get hungry quicker. I also have a problem…

Gym Witch
I met a gym wiitch today while working out. She and her friend moved into the free weight area and preceded to take over. They repositioned the weight benches so they had two spaced out as they wanted leaving the other two touching. Took pairs of 5, 10, 25, and 40 lbs weights EACH. Weighted until some finished with the…

Non-Fat vs Low-Fat
I've always stuck with non-fat products. I'm trying to up my calories a bit but not up the volume of what I eat. I've started switching from from the non-fat to the low-fat. I also do low carb. Has anyone had experience switching from non- to low-? Any downside? Do it slowly? I had a 2% greek yogurt this morning instead of…

Foot cramps anyone?
I've been getting foot (mostly toe) cramps. They are killers. I'll jump up when they hit (could be at anytime day or night). I don't wear tight shoes or high heels (at least not often...maybe once a month). I googled it (naturally) and it pointed to calcium, magnesium and/or potassium issues but those levels look ok. Any…

Scale Worshipers
I am a scale worshiper. It hit me this morning while I was arguing with myself about getting on the scale or not as I'm trying to only weigh in one day a week (Wednesday) and today isn't that day. I live and die by the scale. It is the cause of my greatest joy and greatest sadness. Triumph and tragedy are defined by…

TDEE - I'm confused
So I've been reading a lot recently about TDEE and I'm confused. Here's my stats: Female 5' 6" Current: 153 lbs (I started this journey at 300+) Goal: 145 lbs 52 (at least for a few more weeks) years old Exercise 5 times a week on average. 5 - Cardio, 2-3 weights I follow a 40/30/30 or 30/35/35 (carbs/protein/fat) I switch…

1000+calories ian hour? How?
I'm always skeptical when I see someone burn over 1000 calories in an hour. I do a 60 minute Zumba class and can hit 500 calories staying in the upper end of my heart rate for pretty much the entire time (I wear an HRM) I'm dripping and exhausted afterwards. I consider my self in OK shape. I workout 3-5 times a week -…

Is it possible...
That your body just wants to stay at a particular weight? I've been playing with the same 5 pounds for a while. I've lost over 170 lbs and had a hard time keeping my weight much lower than it is now. I've been within 5 lbs of this weight for about a year and decided I'd like to go back down the 5 I gained plus another 10.…

Slim Pasta
I've read about it but I can't find it. None of my local stores (Whole Foods included) carries it and I can't find a US website. Anyone tried it and/or knows where I can find it? I'd like to try it. Even if its not great, its pasta "like" and worth the attempt. Thanks!

College Students
I've posted this type of message in a number of threads but I thought it warrented a post of its own. If your dining hall isn't providing healthy alternatives at all meals or you just want something different, do something about it! Most college dining companies have an advisory board that looks at what students want, get…

Bread=Gain
Anyone else find that no matter how good they are if the include bread, pasta, rice or potato in their day, they gain? Every time. So frustrating! I don't mind limiting but I'd like to be able to have them once in a while. I even pull the noodles out of the chicken noodle soup!

Which reading is right? HRM or Treadmill?
So I went to the gym this morning and did 60 minutes on the treadmill using the HR program. Interestingly my HRM was being read by the treadmill so my wrist band and the treadmill both had my heart rate through out and were within 1 of each other. At the end the HRM showed I had burned 433 calories and the treadmill showed…

New HRM
Finally broke down and bought a HRM. Love the idea of it. Tried it out last night at the gym. I changed my routine to do weights first then cardio as a friend said I'd get my heart rate up before I started the cardio and would then burn more calories. Didn't seem to work that way. During weights I was only in my target…

Body Composition
I weight myself everyday (I know controverial but it works for me). I also monitor % body fat and muscle. I've notice in recent weeks that as my weight is going down, my body fat is going UP and muscle is going DOWN. Not what I wanted (except the weight part of course). So what am I doing wrong? I work out 5-6 days a week…

Just need to vent...
Sometimes it helps just to write it down and post. I'm on a slippery slope. Haven't been able to get back to my "fighting" weight range in a long time (143-147 lbs). I haven't got totally out of control but I've come close. I'm at 156 lb. I can typically keep my eating under control while I'm working but lose it after work…
