My (overly detailed) approach to phase 2
First note that I have tried SBD before but I inevitably fell off of the wagon the minute I started adding carbs back in. This time, I decided to reserve my highest Glycemic load carbs to later in the day. That way I get them in BUT it's a slow and gradual process. IIRC Dr. Agaston said the purpose to this process was to…

Protien Powder during pregnancy?
We aren't pregnant yet but during my last pregnancy my doctor said I could use protein supplement if I could find a powder that didn't have a bunch of extra vitamins, additives, or artificial sweeteners in it. I've looked all over but it seems that all the protien powders out there are loaded in vitamins, crazy extra…

do you ever get frustrated with public perception with your diet?
I mean I hear all the time "I fell off the wagon today" blah blah blah. And I want so badly to say "Give low carb a shot" but if you say anything you get the nasty eye. Dude it's so easy to stick with. Sure, while I was making my son chocolate cupcakes with homemade butter cream icing I had the urge. Who wouldn't? (don't…

South Beach/Primal/Paleo blender newbie here. HALO!
First let me say to those of you zero carbing or LCHF I don't judge or care. If your doctor is okay with your diet I don't know why anyone else should GAF. That being said I do (as the above suggests) the South Beach but blended with Paleo and Primal. I'm pretty sure I have seen my last bite of white potato or refined…

Granted this guy started out with tons of muscle, AND it's no where near the same as dealing with decades of bad habits and life style that includes a desk job. BUT Drew Manning Gained and Lost 75lbs on purpose to better understand WHY people struggle with weight loss. DH and I watch us and it actually motivated us to be…

Fit to Fat and Back (Awesome & very motivating Video)
I've posted this else where but I might need to find a way that this video gets posted on the board (or bumped) on a regular basis. For me this video at least helped me remember that the crappy parts of weight loss are normal and just part of the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew7g7AqGqzo

Carb Timing, CICO, and Fat loss
So I keep reading that eating carbs during the day is best. The problem is that the earlier I eat my carbs the hungrier I get later in the day. BUT I also find that if I wait until after 3pm to eat my carbs I can actually make it through the day on my reduced caloric in take. BUT everything I'm reading about carb…

Low carvers do you find you eat more vegetables now?
I'm doing the South beach and I eat WAY more vegetables than I ever did before. I don't get how people can lay claim to the idea that we don't get enough nutrients. I get mine from vegetables, nuts and meat. Next week I start adding low glycemic load foods like berries and legumes. Every primal/ paleo recipe I see is chalk…

Lets discuss the 1-2lb weekly weight loss recommendation
So I don't want to lose any more precious lean body mass than necessary. My diet is satiating me, I'm energized. I'm working out regularly. When I started I needed to lose 80-90 lbs (Putting my 5'3" small frame at a healthy 130 - 120) I'm down 15lbs. I completed yesterday's diet journal which was full of lean meats and…

What other tools are you using?
So I'm using MFP for pure calorie counting. I use Garmin for calorie burn Excel to get an average between MFP, Garmin, and a body bug estimate of 10x body weight. Excel to net the average calories out and the calories in from mfp. THAT is the number i use to monitor my (hopefully deficit) I also use workflowy to list…

Sugar Detox v. SouthBeachDiet
webmd.com/diet/ss/slideshow-sugar-addiction So apparently there is a "sugar detox" program out there that looks at first glance very similar to phase 1. I found this comment from WebMD interesting. "Can you beat your sugar habit by quitting cold turkey? Some sugar detox plans urge you to avoid all sweets. That means all…

MFP and Garmin Calorie discrepancy
I sync my garmin connect to MFP and garmin pulls over calories entered while MFP pulls over Garmin's activity calories. Both net calories in against calories out. BUT some how Garmin shows my net calorie deficit to be 428 for the day. Yippee MFP shows my deficit to be 918. Being an accountant I get the principal of…

If it's already been posted I'm not sorry. Gotta get healthy and lose weight! Looking for friends to support my journey
So I posted a smidge this summer but since I have been released by my doctor to begin working out more vigerously I'm ready to take this train full force. A little back ground: I'm doing a Combo of Paleo/Primal/ and South Beach so I'll be low carbing it but with healthy veggies and lean meats. This summer I had 3 TIAs in a…

any Garmin Connect or StrideKick folks here?
Do any of you participate in the challenges? I've been doing them and to me they are helpful but there doesn't seem to be many people participating. Anyone want to do do a challenge on Connect or Stridekick?
