New to this group
I have accepted that I am a binge eater and that it is a problem for me. Several of the symptoms of my binging are similar to the symptoms I had when I was a practicing alcoholic (almost 29 years ago). I have the same feelings of shame and self-loathing for being out of control when binging. I have struggled with my weight…

Free at last!
I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes in 2003 and slowly tried to get my weight down about 30 lbs. from 2003 to 2010. In Feb. of 2011, I started cutting out processed carbs and eating healthier and lost another 30 lbs. I did good enough to get off several diabetes meds except for metformin, 1000mg twice a day. I had a series of…

Scale Victory
Today, I have lost 100 pounds from my highest weight of 332. If my feeble memory serves me correctly, the last time I was this low was over 30 years ago. I’m going to celebrate by sticking with my lifestyle change and not by binging and gorging to reward myself. I have to break that lifetime pattern and there is no time…

A1c
I had my Hgb A1c done this morning. A1C is 6.1 (Standard 4.6 to 6.0) and Estimated Average Glucose is 128 (Standard 85-126). Close, but no cigar. I WILL be within range by my next test in November. Now I’m waiting for my lipids results. Maybe the night shift will do it.

Ibuprofin
I had to take ibuprofen last night and my BG this morning was 140. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm sure it's not dtet related.

Hives
We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant yesterday and I had scrambled egg with chorizo with half an avocado. That evening, I started itching all over. I went to bed and couldn’t stand the itching, so got up and took a cool shower. I still itched so I went downstairs and turned on the Olympics so my wife could sleep, and…

A test.
Today is a test for me at our family get together. Hors d’oeuvres are broiled baby asparagus wrapped in prosciutto drizzled with olive oil, deviled eggs made with goat cheese, crimini mushrooms stuffed with chicken/apple sausage, goat cheese and almond flour, and a salami and cheese platter. Dinner is Grilled Tri –Tip,…

In and Out Burger
I just had one of the best burgers I have ever had. It was an In and Out cheeseburger, Animal and Protein style with grilled onions. Animal Style - Burger with hand-leafed lettuce, tomato, a mustard cooked beef patty; add pickle, extra spread, with grilled onions. Protein Style - Wrapped in hand-leafed lettuce, instead of…

My Primal Blueprint 21 Day Total Body Transformation
Day 1 Starting weight – 242 Cleaned out the fridge and pantry of non Primal food, 1 trashcan of partially opened food and two boxes of unopened food. I’ll out it out for the Boy Scouts this Saturday, who are piu\cking up food for the less fortunate. I feel somewhat guilty giving them the food that I will no longer eat.…

One month Paleo/Primal
Hi, New to the Paleo/Primal thread, but started MFP the day I got out of the hospital with AFib on July 5th (I now log my meals on Livestrong because it graphs my blood glucose, carbs, fat, cholesterol, and protein. It also gives me my daily micros as well as macros). My cardiologist put me on a low calorie, low fat, low…

Statins
Statins have been shown to cause muscle atrophy and weakness, and there is growing evidence that they can also cause cognitive as well as sleep problems. Does anyone know, if you stop statins, how long it would take for these issues to resolve themselves? Don’t want to be rude, but please don’t respond if you don’t have…

Tips for cruising.
Next week, The Bride and I are going on a 7 day cruise from Vancouver, Canada to Whittier, Alaska on the Island Princess, then up to Denali for 4 days. Questions to anyone that has taken this cruise, is there ample time, daily, to walk the decks or hit the treadmill for a half hour in the mornings, or is the gym or your…

Questions for the runners.
I am a walker not a runner (old, fat and an artificial knee). I started walking for exercise a month ago. I have increased my time (up to 48 minutes), distance (2.78) miles and MPH (3.45), and am getting into better shape and now, am able to push myself. Do you run at your fastest pace every day or do you rest every other…

Geezers exercising for life
I don’t see many 60+ men posting here. I don’t have a lot in common with a 22 year old fitness coach training for an Iron Woman triathlon, so I was wondering if there is enough interest from older men that are exercising to improve their health and improve their quality of life? I was thinking of posting progress on…

Need new exercise walking shoes
I am looking for a new exercise walking shoe. If there are any of you that know of a good shoe, taking into account my profile, please let me know. I’m 66 years old, 261 lbs, and walking for only 10 days now. I have fallen arches, have had plantar fasciitis before (it’s OK right now, but don’t want it to come back), 11.5…

Mine isn’t a total success story, but a partial one.
I stopped eating most processed foods in exchange for organic CSA and Farmer’ Market fruits and veggies about three months ago. I also started eating fish and chicken each twice a week cutting red meat (have to have my New Yorks and Tri-tip) and the other white meat to 2 or 3 times a week. In that period of time, I have…

NuB
I just started using this program yesterday. I finely have the last piece of the puzzle in place, exercise. I quit drinking 25 years ago, smoking 20 years ago, chewing 15 years ago, started eating organic foods and cut out the packaged foods three months ago, then, after spending 16 hours in atrial fibrillation at the…
