I just started using this program yesterday. I finely have the last piece of the puzzle in place, exercise. I quit drinking 25 years ago, smoking 20 years ago, chewing 15 years ago, started eating organic foods and cut out the packaged foods three months ago, then, after spending 16 hours in atrial fibrillation at the emergency and cardiac sections of the hospital, started walking everyday for 1.5 miles/minimum of 30 minutes five days ago. They put me on an 1800 calorie low sodium diet and told me to get my fat butt into exercising. I’ve hated exercise because it is so boring, but I am enjoying it now. I think I had an epiphany. I spent yesterday at the county fair with my wife, son, daughters and two grandsons, another 7 (the sons in law) reasons to stay alive. I also loaded MFP on my Xoom so, next month when we are on a cruise, I can keep track of my food and exercise.

Hello and welcome,
Congrats to you on all of those wonderful accomplishments!
I too was a smoker for 25 years and quit in 04, best thing I ever did!
I started on this journey 5 weeks ago today after my Doctor told
me that I was heading straight for diabetes if i didn't make a change now,
so not wanting that horrible disease and all of the others that are in tow,
I made that change. I have lost a total of 19 lbs, but only 5 since beinf on
MFP!
I can tell you that I feel so so so much better, I have my energy back, I am
so motivated and I know that this is for life!
So my hat is off to you on starting this journey the best way you can, and I am
sure you are going to love this site as much as I do, great place for support
and motivation! Best of luck to you my friend!0 -
Ritamas2,
Thank you for the welcome. I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes about 5 years ago, but didn’t take it seriously until about three months ago. The Bride and I took a series of cooking classes which stressed fresh organic food. We started buying all our fruits and veggies at the Farmers Market and joined a Community Sustained Agricultural farm and were amazed at the taste of fresh food. After doing this for three month, I have been taken off one of my blood pressure meds and two of my diabetes meds. My goal is to lose 100 more pounds (5’10”, 268 lbs, down from 332 lbs) and get completely off the meds. I can see the results after only a few months, so, I’m here to tell you, it can be done.0
