I am looking for a new exercise walking shoe. If there are any of you that know of a good shoe, taking into account my profile, please let me know. I’m 66 years old, 261 lbs, and walking for only 10 days now. I have fallen arches, have had plantar fasciitis before (it’s OK right now, but don’t want it to come back), 11.5 US, 2E. I’m walking about 1.5 miles a day at about 3 mph, jogging for 30 seconds every five minutes, but will increase both distance and jogging time as I get in better shape. I walk about 1 mile on cement and half a mile on dirt/cinders. I need a shoe with good arch support but still flexible, good heal support and wide. I have a worn out pair of New Balance 622's with Superfeet inserts that I use now, Thanks

Hi. You really need a good supportive pair of shoes. Is it worth you going to a specialist running shoe shop to get yourself properly kitted up? Depends where you are but this is what I did and it really helps because they will look at all your conditions and how you walk and run and then determine what shoe is best for you.
I'm really heavy on my feet and I wear an ASICS NIMBUS shoe. There are a few different types and they are pretty good for women with wide feet who are quite heavy on their feet (I'm told I tend to stomp :blushing: ). I have had this style of shoe for the last 4 years and they are very supportive and seem to wear well.
You really should go to a proper running store though to get fitted for some.. that's what I did (MOTI store in Bristol).0 -
Der.. just realised you are male and live in America!!! Sorry!I think you can still get the shoes I mentioned in mens (I know they offered them to me). Obviously check though because you probably have different shops there that do running shoes. I'm sure you can find a specialist running shoe specialist on Google0

Emilie,
As I read your suggestion to go to a specialty running shop (I didn’t know that they even had such shops – Duh!), I remembered watching a bunch of runners congregating in front of a store this morning as I was drinking my latté. I googled the store (Fleet Feet) and they carry Acics, New Balance, Brooks and a bunch of others. I’ll be going there now. Thank you0 -
I ended up getting a pair of New Balance 1123’s. They did a great job of correcting my over pronation without inserts and they are a lot lighter than my NB 622’s0
