Groan. Back again, and again, and again
Whenever I think I am going to get back in the game, life throws another curveball! But here I am again, trying to start back at SL. Tomorrow is my first day back. I am cutting way back to the bar and going back to pure 5x5. maybe throw some pull up stuff in there again, because I loved being able to do those. DH might…

Back to school, back to workouts
Hi! I'm back. I fell off the lifting wagon a while ago when derby got super busy, then vacations, then a concussion, etc. But now I am back to lifting starting next week. I'm still trying to figure out a good schedule to be able to lift, climb, and skate, but I will see what I can do! I hope that I will be able to go back…

Who lifts at home in the morning?
So, I am usually an end of day lifter, since I always went after the kid went to bed, but now that I have a power rack at home, I am toying with the idea of morning workouts. For those of you that lift at home in the AM, what do you do to warm up? Our elliptical is in the bedroom and the hubby will be sleeping, so that is…

How to Squat - The Definitive Guide
I saw this posted in the Fitness subreddit, and it looked interesting :) http://strengtheory.com/how-to-squat/ I skipped all the biomechanics parts, because I have read SS, and skimmed some other parts, but it seems like a good read. I especially liked the part about getting past your sticking point, and how to brace…

Been MIA
Sorry guys, but I have been MIA for the last several weeks. A combo of life + sickness + a minor injury has kept me out of the gym. I can't wait to get back at it. But I have some exciting news! My husband suggested moving the kid's playroom to the spare room upstairs (currently a computer/video game room) and using her…

For those who are at or near their goal weight...
I have a question for you! When did you notice the biggest changes in you body in you weight loss journey? Beginning...middle...end? I am halfway to my goal weight. While I am happy with my weight loss so far, I feel like I don't look all that different. My husband says he can see that I lost weight, and my clothes feel…

Who does/did Wendler 5/3/1?
I am thinking of switching to Wendlers in May. Did you like it? Was there something you didn't like? I will have to admit, the only thing I don't like is the deadlift weights. Because of the light starting weights, I will have to stack plates again :(

Daily Check-in: Time March-es on
Thought I would start a March thread :) Today was the first day of my deload. I think I increased my weights too quickly before, thinking that as long as I got 5x5 I was good, but as the weight got to my limits I noticed that my form was no so good. I don't want to risk an injury I could have prevented, so I am deloading.…

SL 5x5 App update
My SL app updated recently and I used it for the first time today. You can add custom accessories :) Yay! It isn't great, just name, sets, and reps - weight would be nice, but it is nice to be able to record them in the app.

I had to unsubscribe from the SL daily email...
When I read this: "Because as the saying goes: a skinny-guy with a low body-fat is like a fat woman with big boobs. Doesn't really count lol." wtf??? Who says crap like that? I think his "girlfriend" who lifts is a figment of his imagination, probably in response to the "girl" who beat him at arm wrestling. Just needed to…

Anyone work night shifts?
I work rotating 8 hr shifts in a hospital. Because evening shifts make me miss derby practice, I end up working just days and nights. I work night shift every 3-4 weeks. So, my easiest options for lifting those weeks are either after school drop off, before I go to bed, or before I pick my daughter up from after-care,…

Starting on Friday!
I joined a gym in October all keen to start, and promptly sprained my ankle 3 days later :s So now that it is better, I am finally starting up! To say I am terrified is a bit of an understatement! I am not in great shape, have about 20 lbs to lose, and have a weak core. The weight room is totally foreign to me. I don't…

Muscle recovery and abdominals
This may be a silly question, but I am not sure. I know when you do strength training, you should not train the same muscles 2 days in a row in order to give the muscles time to recover and repair. Does this apply to abdominal exercises like crunches? Or just lifting? My abs have gotten very weak after my c-section 2 years…

Strength training without a gym
I need to start strength training, I know that. I want to loose about 10 lbs, but I am horribly flabby. The problem is, I really can't do gyms. I can never maintain them. I have a toddler and finding a couple hours to go is very hard. The actual working out isn't the problem, it is the travel time, changing, showering,…

Need motivation to become a "morning person"
I am really not a morning person. I love my bed and never want to get out. If I could sleep until noon everyday, I would. Of course, that isn't going to happen with a full time job and a toddler! I want to find time to work out, but if I leave it until after DD goes to bed, it never happens. Once I get home from work, it…

How to measure salad greens?
Good afternoon. I am trying hard to get in to the habit of actually measuring my food to make sure I do not underestimate what I am eating. My biggest issue is with salad greens. Portions are often measured in cups, but I am not sure if I am supposed to pack the greens in, or keep them loose. There is a big difference in…
