Hello again, got some good sleep today.

Thanks Sannferris, I was reading about that trick with the vinegar. I have tried everything, including the vinegar trick and there is no solution that has helped me. I think my water is so hard here that nothing seems to blast through it or keep it off my dishes. Since I began hand washing I have noticed the ones I am using daily and hand washing are looking better each time, so I am going to empty my dishes out of the cupboard and put all the ones that are shiny and clean again back in and start washing the ones that look so horrible. For now I am using the dishwasher to air dry my dishes while I am towel drying them. I'll be doing a few just vinegar washes in the dishwasher to see if maybe it's crud in the pipes and sprayers or something. One thing I've noticed with hand washing is I tend to have less dishes to put away. I used to rinse them and fill the dishwasher before I ran it. Now I am washing them daily and have no used dishes build up in the dishwasher, lol. I only wash glassware and eating utensils in the dishwasher so I tended to get everything dirty before I ran the machine.

My dishwasher was installed in 1998 according to my neighbor, they have the same one and the houses were built in 1998. It's probably time for a new dishwasher, but that is way down on the list for me and it won't take care of the horrid water we have here. The hardness, the chlorine smells and everything else that comes with it. I really just don't like city water here, and I buy it at the store because I haven't found one filter that does it better than Ozarka. I don't like any other water from the store, they all taste like tap water but Ozarka tastes good and clean and doesn't have any smells coming from it. This water is also the only one that hasn't messed up the Keurig coffee machine, we haven't had to replace it or use a paper clip to clear out the machine in about 4 years. I just do the normal washing, use their filters in the water bin and it's been great.

Just finished dinner and I'm going to relax with hubby and watch the CMA awards tonight. I've missed about an hour. Everyone have a great night.

Good Morning. Peppermint has hit the Trader Joe's shelves. I stocked up on some stuff, especially the goodies that I bought before and liked them and when I went back to the store, they were out of stock already. I guess that was two years ago, last year I was not able to go shopping at all. Boy, how the time flies, whether you're having fun or not. ha ha So, I now have goodies for John and myself, plus for some gift giving.

Got home yesterday and was so hungry, I wanted something quick so I fixed BLT's. Haven't had that in a long time. Really hit the spot. Have a little bacon left for a breakfast, but probably not this morning, I'll save it for later. I need to get back to oatmeal and eating better again. I fall off that wagon so easily...I have a slide built in, right off the back of that wagon. Weeeeeeeeee, right into something nice and fatty.

My sister leaves for a vacation this morning. A very well deserved get-away. She has been plowing through all that paperwork for Mom and Dad and finally has all the legal stuff taken care off and can kick-back and relax. This weekend, she is meeting Simon's kids and grandkids. Big move in their relationship. They are both totally family oriented, that if their kids don't approve of the partnership, I would bet they would call it off, no matter how strong their feelings are. Norma's boys have already gotten to know Simon and like him a lot. John and I like him a lot too. I am so happy to see my sister so happy.

My Mom had a dentist appointment yesterday, I'll call her later today to see how it went. When I talked to her Tuesday, she was so worried about it, seeing another new doctor, she really worked herself up over it. I wish I could impart some of my "don't care" attitude to her, she gets so upset over nothing. Makes the whole situation harder. It seems that she HAS to find something to worry about and fret over. Once the hurdle is over, she finds something else. She is also upsetting herself over Joel's upcoming wedding. That's Norma's younger son who is getting married at the end of January. It's going to be a formal affair and the bride, as sweet as she normally is, has turned into "Bridezilla". Mom doesn't know if she can physically handle the entire two days of activities, (rehearsal dinner, staying at a hotel, wedding and reception), plus, she doesn't know what she can wear that would be dressy enough. My solution is that she doesn't attend. Mom really doesn't want to go, but "what would people think" if she's not there. I don't care what "people think", we can't live our lives for everyone else. If she is not up to it physically or mentally, then, Don't Go!
I know Norma will have a better time, mother of the groom, if she's not caring for Mom. We'll see what happens, still a few months to dwell on it.

Well, I got that off my chest. Thanks for listening.

    Time to refill my mug...

Good morning, and then I am going to bed, lol. I have my menu for next week and I don't have to buy one single package of meat because I have everything I need in the freezer, Yay! I printed one of those printable menu sheets with a shopping list and went about getting that done. I still looked at my recipes I have saved to Gathered Table but knowing what I have in stock already just looking at the recipes individually made it far easier to get my shopping list made. I decided to mark each day from Sunday through Friday with a different kind of meat or soup, found the recipes for those, and then worked on the sides I would serve with them.

Worked out well too, I held back Saturday for dinner out with some friends. It's their wedding anniversary and we are taking them out. It will be a nice treat for all of us, we haven't been out for dinner in well over 8 weeks or so. I already left a message for them to choose dinner or breakfast so we'll see how that plays out. I'll pull something from the leftover meals in the freezer if breakfast is what is on the menu for Saturday.

Got another great deal coming along from my grocery chain. It's another one of those pie plates for just $3.48, plus the fixings for pumpkin pie free. So, one more treat for a friend somewhere. Looks like I'll be doing a whole lot of baking this year.

Sannferris-That's funny, I have the exact same slide on my wagon, lol. I had oatmeal about an hour ago so we are both on track this morning.

I'm happy to listen, weddings are hard enough to handle especially when you are close family. I don't blame her for not wanting to go and she shouldn't go if she isn't comfortable about it, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I'm glad your sister planned some relaxation time for herself, I hope things go as they hope they will.

I hope you all have a great day today!

Good morning - guess I started writing in the middle of my thoughts. Sunday evening we hit a deer on the way to pick up Thomas. It was a big buck so the damage is not bad but damage is damage. And when we drove back by the area, the deer was mostly off the road but not dead so when we got home, we called it in so the sheriff could make sure it was taken care of. And all the rest followed. It is an old car with many miles but Ralph likes it. Insurance won't give us much so debating what to do. So hope that explains what happens. A funny - while doing the report, the sheriff guy asked Ralph for his birthdate, later he asked for mine. When Ralph told him - he said "my, you got a young one" - not so young anymore. :)

Good News Club went okay and then I babysat. Brought home laundry to do as now their washing machine is broken. I'll take what's done with me this afternoon. Thomas' team lost their game last night so he is done with football. (24 hours and I'm back) I worked hard on their laundry - washed, folded and filled the baskets - got all but 1/2 load done and I brought home enough last night to finish them up - will trade out again on Friday. Lori stayed home. I took care of Emily and Maggie was ready for bed so we worked on stuff for Operation Shoebox stuff - doing a packing party Saturday evening. We got quite a bit done and got the laundry room straightened up to but the bad part was when Lori went downstairs to get stuff and found out the sewer had backed up - fortunately in just a small area and not where anything was but it smelled bad and look horrible cause you could see the contents. Hopefully, that's being worked on today and it's just roots or something like that.

I took Ava to speech this morning, dropped off some diapers to a friend and am back here till evening. when I have 4-H Council - am taking a 4-Her that has to be there earlier so I'll eat supper with Julie which will be fun. I'm doing my "Thanksgiving/Christmas " cleaning so went through stuff behind one chair. Found some candy from Valentine's day & stuff from SS for mother's day and some kitchen towels so cleaned out that drawer and got rid of some and put the new ones in. That was a good feeling. I took off the living room screen the other day and set them in the shower and forgot about them till I went to take my shower so washed them while we were both in there. Now to get them back in the windows but they do look better. Have a couple more to do tonight from another room.

Anew, glad you got your macafee back on. We have our coverage with what we pay to have our internet so I don't have to think about it. Hope you get your menu planning thing all figure out. I'm sure there are alot of ideas out there. Interesting that you having trouble finding out about an area in Texas - that's usually easy to do. No ideas to help you. You're the whiz.
I don't have a dishwasher so always do mine by hand and with just two of us - often just do them once a day. One person I know washes by hand and uses the dishwasher like a dish drainer and then they are out of sight while they dry.
Sheryl, glad you got your peppermint. That blood prick was worth getting you out. So nice that Norma is getting away for a vacation. Hope meeting his family goes well. That's right - your mother should do what's best for her - you can't read people's minds anyway. I love how we can share so much here - better.

Granny is back in her own apartment now. A neighbor is helping her with things plus G-ma comes by. She's taking things slow which is good.

Off to see what all I can take care of this afternoon. The sun is shining beautifully here - very pretty looking out. We've had our freezing frost but one friend didn't have some of her tomato plants freeze so she's still picking tomatoes. Amazing to be doing that in November here. Have a great day.

Got the hood on the car up today - more things than we thought - looked at cars online - plan is to go look at one tomorrow - 3 hours away. It's the color wanted.

Good Morning. I spent yesterday cooking and cleaning. Felt good and the house smells good. Even still this morning, I can smell the onions and peppers from the stew that simmered. We had linguini and sauce for dinner last night and I made Isabella's Chicken Hunter's stew for today. Got laundry done and washed dishes, pots and pans, but the after dinner dishes are in the sink waiting for me again.

Debora, I'll be praying that this is the right car for you and Ralph. That is quite a drive to go look at it. I hope it's a nice enjoyable drive.

My Mom cracks me up, I called her and asked about her dentist appointment. You have to bear in mind that she and my Dad had been going to the same dentist for close to 50 years.

    Me: How'd it go?
Mom: It was all so new and different, I didn't know where to spit, there wasn't a bowl by the chair!!!!!
Me: Oh, you don't spit, they suck it out. You just sit there and they will do everything for you.
Mom: WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME???????
Me: Ha ha ha ha, how am I suppose to know that I need to tell you that? Do you mean that Dr. Maloof has never updated his equipment? In all these years?
Mom: I guess not, I always lean over and spit.
Me: WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME???????

I'm starting to feel like Sylvia with her Mom, only my Mom won't laugh at herself. Too serious.

She was impressed and actually said that it wasn't the scary experience that she expected. I told her that she has to stop worrying and working herself up over things that end up nothing like she imagined. She's her own worst enemy. Also, no cavities and the dentist said she has great teeth. She still has all her own teeth at 93.

Left at 6 this morning. I did the driving. Bought the car and we, of course, both drove home. Since they hadn't had it long, we probably paid a little more than other place might have had it but it's done now.

Good Morning, getting rain today, thank goodness for college football on tv, it will keep John occupied on and off for most of the day.

Congratulations on the car, Debora. Interesting that it's the color that was so appealing to Ralph, what color is it?

I guess that I don't have anything new to say this morning. I'll go browse fb for a little bit and be back later.

Here's the long version of the story. We traveled the three hours Friday morning (left at 5:45). We stopped for breakfast on the way and lunch (McRibb) on the way home. We test drove the car, looked it over and said yes so headed home as soon as the paperwork was done. The car is red (burgandy) and same kind but three years newer. I drove my car both ways - putting up with the shaking when it happens cause they've looked it over and can't find a problem. DH drove the new car. When we got home, he took a tire off the wrecked car and went and had one of mine changed and then they knew what the shaking was - the tire was in very bad shape so it should ride better now. Very thankful I didn't have a blowout. We went to Wycliffe Associates dinner in the evening so I got my first ride - so quiet and smooth - our other car was wearing out. :) Today we have a 4-H thing and then getting together with ODD and doing the Samaritan Purse shoeboxes. Tomorrow is Youth Group Sunday and they feed us after the service so no one will be here. Monday I'll do 4-H stuff and we'll work on getting the license transferred, etc. Got most of the bathroom cleaned today so a little more progress on my list and started on 4-H stuff.

Sheryl, glad your mother's dental trip so much better than she envisioned. Yesterday was a beautiful day so we did have a nice drive. Glad football will be a help for John since it's raining. Pretty day here.

About time to get ready to head out.

Debora, I googled Wycliffe Associates to see if they are the same as Wycliffe Bible Translators, I'm still not positive, but looks like they may be affiliated. My sister went to Papua New Guinea a few years ago with that group. She taught the missionary kids while the parents were at a two week missionary conference. She said it was so rewarding.
So good to hear the new car is nice and your car is better with the new tire. Scary experience, being in a shaky car and the fear of getting stranded somewhere.

We have the woodstove burning today. It's in the 40's, high to be only 52 degrees. I'm having quite a time getting John to leave the door shut...my new mantra, "Stoke it up, choke it down and LEAVE IT ALONE". I don't see any smoke, but I can smell it every time he opens the door. We turned on the fans to spread the warmth throughout the house. I also turned on the air purifier to see if that does any good with the smoky smell. Not bad right now.

Talked to my Mom this morning, she got the wedding invitation and started in about how tiresome this experience will be for her. I said to just RSVP a decline and that will be the end of it. No more fretting or wondering, peace for all of us. Her response was "how can I face your sister?" I said, "No Problem, Norma can handle that decision easily". I didn't dare tell her that that decision is what Norma and I both want her to make and it will make the event more enjoyable for us. That would be a bit cruel. Truthful, but harsh.

Ha, I just noticed that John opened a window in the living room. He must have gotten too warm. No wonder it smells so good and fresh right now.

Hi all, had another beautiful day in paradise today! :) It has been in the mid 70's this week. We had rain Tuesday then windy but nice the rest of the week. The forecast is identical for next week. Had a long chat (1 1/2 hrs!) with my close friend Grace who lives in FL this morning then Dan and I had a nice breakfast of eggs over easy, ham and toast. My friend Jami and I went shopping together to a resale shop this afternoon. She found a couple of treasures but I managed not to spend anything. When I got home Dan and I ordered some stuff from Amazon then I came here to visit with you all. :) I'm going to make TJ's chile lime chicken burgers and home made coleslaw for dinner tonight. I love those! We watched a John Wayne movie we had recorded a couple of months ago last night called "The Quiet Man". I'd forgotten what a great movie it is. We really enjoyed it!

Sheryl, that deal for the grass fed beef is an excellent price! I would jump on it. I think we all have one of those dang slides hanging off the back of our wagons! We'll have to try to stay away from it. Funny about your mom (maybe not so funny...). I don't know if they are just more agitated as they get older but at 93 I guess you can't blame her too much. I know the first time I changed dentists I was wondering where I was supposed to spit too! :) Glad your sister is getting some time away. I sure do hope Simon's kids love her and they can progress in the relationship. As you said, so nice to see her happy. I'm surprised TJ's had the peppermint stuff out already. Mine didn't have Christmas stuff out yet, just everything pumpkin. Maybe this week. I'll see tomorrow.

Debora, I remembered you mentioning hitting the deer but I didn't put 2 and 2 together either until you explained it. I thought it was just me so I was happy when the other gals said "what did I miss?" What make and model of car is it that you and hubby got? Sounds like it worked out well. You can't worry about whether it was the best deal going so long as you are both happy with it. I really enjoyed the story about the officer telling your husband that he got a young one. That was really cute and he is a lucky guy! Thanks for the update on Granny. I should e-mail her.

Anew, I don't use my dishwasher either. We don't really have enough dishes and it's only the 2 of us so I just do them by hand and Dan dries them. I use my dishwasher for storage. :) We run it every couple of months just to keep it in working order so things don't deteriorate. There are a lot of people who get that awful white film on their glasses. It is really good that it is coming off the more you wash them. Several people just buy new glasses every so often - what a waste! Good to hear that you got your Mcafee back on your system without too much hassle. It's cute what your hubby said about having a green plate that night. My husband says that every so often but it is usually that we are having a very white meal that night because I've served something like chicken, cauliflower and rice or potatoes. :)

Well, speaking of dinner, I'd better go get those chicken burgers started - I'm hungry! :)

    Have a great evening everyone!

Anewstart22, I had that problem once and a Plumber told me that often times it is from the liquid dishwasher soap. Now and then you may buy a bottle that may have been exposed to freezing temperatures which will cause it to change the velocity! Who knew?? I switched to the pods that you just drop in and from then on, no more problems. It also works if you switch to powder, but he said only use one tablespoon and no more than that because it can also cause film if you use too much.

Good Morning. Our neighbor has been working on an old truck that's been sitting beside his garage for at least 15 years. This past week, he got it running, working on it after work until dark. This morning, he's back at it again, but the engine running at 7:30 am is no problem. He got it running pretty smooth. Now, he has a pressure washer going, boy, is that thing noisy...woke John up and he's deaf.

Yesterday's experiment with the woodstove went fairly well. We'll see how today goes. Forecast is again, rain, some wind and temps in the 40's. We'll have NFL on all day to try to keep John occupied. Last night, he decided to check some of the floor registers for the electric furnace. What a fiasco. It's even hard to explain what all he did and wanted to do. I finally told him that they were all set, years ago, to be in the positions that we wanted them for maximum heat and deflect from furniture and we should leave them alone. John wants to fix everything, whether it's broken or not.

I better go, John fussing about something.

Hi, our day began at 59 degrees, a far cry from the usual of at least 78 degrees and the air was beautifully dry too. The grass was dry and waving in the light wind and seemed to be enjoying that freedom to breathe like I was able when I left for grocery shopping this morning. Our high was about 78 degrees.

Hubby went shopping with me and picked things on half the list, then got lost in the mixed up aisles. He couldn't find the juice and when I took him back there he noticed it was on the shelf opposite the bread he had just found, lol. They have moved everything in that store and he hates the produce section, said he has too much walking to find the things he wants. He's right, nothing is where it used to be except the back wall with the salad stuff on it. We went along and wrote down each aisle something was found on so we know the next time where to find it. I did get a great deal on some ground chuck for 25% off a big one. I don't use much ground beef, but when hubby wants to have salisbury steak it's what I use, so I have enough for three meals of that in the future. I've already separated it into 1 pound packs and tossed in the freezer.

My feet are still killing me, I get some relief for a day or two and I am back to immense pain. If I could just stay off of them long enough to heal but that would mean at least 30 days they say. Who can stay off their feet for thirty days? This is a time when I appreciate having leftovers in the freezer and have been planning meals around days I know I will be busy, like today. My feet kill me but I was able to get dinner on the table because I had already put leftovers from the freezer in the refrigerator and I added some frozen green beans with seasonings I added and fresh strawberries to the meal. Easy peasy, and so much better on my feet after having been on them so long today.

Some friends of ours wedding anniversary is on the 14th, I think it's been a lot of years now for them. We were going to take them to dinner, but they already have plans, so we are taking them to breakfast next Saturday instead. It will be nice to see them, it's been awhile.

Arobed53-Glad your husband was able to find the car he wanted. I don't want any new cars, the newest we have is my husbands 2004.5 Dodge Cummins he bought to tow the RV with. That is as new as I want to get, I am not interested in having to depend on the car dealers to get my cars fixed, lol. Plus, I am not into all that new fangled, let the car drive for me and lock and unlock the door for me stuff, it just plain scares me.

Isyvanek, my dishwasher is becoming storage too, lol. I am trying to make sure I get everything out within 24 hours though. I hand dry most of what I am washing now because I don't like spots on my glasses or my pots and pans. The rest can air dry, it's ok if a spot is on that stuff, lol.

Cjdisgindirt-Thanks for the info, I have tried the pods, powder and all the liquids. It just seems my dishwasher is not working like it should and I have run a few loads here and there with vinegar trying to clean it out. I think I even tried the CLR trick but nothing seems to work on it. Just old I think, but I bet there is some buildup in the water pipes of the dishwasher that are leaving deposits on my dishes. A new one is the fix I think, but that will be way down the road.

Sannferris-It has got to be frustrating to have John fixing things when they don't need fixed. I have an idea I thought I might run by you. You said he likes to sort through things, so what if you went to some yard sales and found dime a dozen cheap nuts and bolts that are in tin cans for him to sort. If you have at least three of them you could dump one from another and so on so he can work to his hearts content to sort those items. He would never know if you could figure out a way to put them in a different can from time to time and change up what is in each can, add a few dominoes here and there, maybe a rock or two? Does he like puzzles? What about a puzzle online called, Tom and Spike Car Repair?

Here's the link, maybe you could find other online games for him to play. You guys try to keep warm.

Have a great rest of the evening everyone.

Good Morning. I'm up early this morning and all caught up here and on fb. Anew, thanks for the link. I tried playing the games to see if I can easily explain how to play to John. At first, I thought all the games are timed and while I'm sitting there thinking of my next move, I get a big "YOU LOSE" across the screen, ran out of time. John can't handle that at all. But, I found a way to turn the timer off, that's a good start. I still don't know if he can handle this or not. We'll see. When we were doing regular jigsaw puzzles on the table, he'd get so obsessed with them and couldn't leave until it was done. I wanted to just have it out and put in a piece or two or three at a time, not sit there endlessly and get frustrated. This may be too frustrating also, he hates the computer to begin with.
He still has brass fittings to go through, he got extremely frustrated with that too. So, more nuts and bolts are not the answer, I can just put out a few brass fittings at a time to sort through. You gave me a good chuckle at going to a yard sale...we have enough junk here as it is, don't need anyone else's yard sale stuff. Thanks for the morning laugh.

Yesterday was uneventful. Hardly any rain and no wind, and wasn't cold enough to have the woodstove going. John watched some football. I called my Mom and chatted. We had Cornish game hen for late lunch/early dinner. It seems that we are only eating one main meal a day and snacking more. I fix myself breakfast before John gets up and he never wants to eat anything until after he's been up for awhile. So, we eat between 1-2 pm, and maybe something light about 6 pm. John likes pretzels with peanut butter and will get that for himself late afternoon.

I guess I'll get myself my breakfast now, I'm hungry.

Hello early morning all, I had a very long sleep day yesterday. I went to bed around 4:00 am yesterday but couldn't get to sleep so was back up with hubby instead at 4:30 am. I decided I could go to sleep around 10:30 am or so yesterday and woke up to hubby kissing me on the cheek at 6:30 pm. Yikes! It was dark outside, I couldn't believe it. No phone calls, no cat waking me up, nothing to disturb my sleep, but I sure jumped out of bed in a quick hurry, lol. I had to get dinner on so I decided to change the plans again to the chicken I roasted about a month or so ago to dinner, instead of waiting until tomorrow nights menu for it.

I had the menu planned for turkey burgers and that vegan creamy spinach soup, but there was no way I was eating at 9:00 or so, I needed to roast some garlic for that. Tuesdays (today) dinner plan worked better, pull the garlic roasted chicken from the freezer already wrapped in foil, and put in oven at 425 degrees for about an hour. Carrots with a butter and honey glaze (fresh carrots are easy on the stove), and corn on the cob direct from the freezer too. I wrapped it in foil and baked it along with the chicken, and the foil wrap was perfect on the plate to add the butter, then wrap it back up and let the corn melt it real nice. We had a great dinner and I wasn't stressing about it. In my experience the chicken is best reheated from frozen in the oven, otherwise it overcooks to mush if I thaw in the refrigerator first. This was like I had just baked it and the seasonings were perfect, a leave in the thigh meat thermometer worked great. I made sure to move it from one piece to the other to make sure both were good and hot inside before pulling it from the oven. Of course I had to wait a few minutes to get the thigh warm enough to stick the thermometer in, lol.

I'm liking this pre-planned menu and frozen leftovers to make dinners, so nice not wondering what to cook or having to eat the same thing throughout the week. Although hubby has to decide if he wants something for lunch next day that I am looking to freeze, like soup or chili. He is good about it and I usually make enough to save a quart jar and send him with a pint to work for lunch next day. He just has a sandwich for lunch next day after we have leftovers from the freezer. Like this morning, it's tuna sandwich day lol.

Sannferris-Glad you got a good laugh, I thought about that as I was typing it, but I figured it would be better to get some truly junk nuts and bolts to just mess with and have him put them back in order, lol. I didn't try the games, just thought they would be interesting. Have you seen this? There are some great recommendations for patients. Like bingo, using more than just letters and numbers, but using farm animals too. What about making a book of pictures he really likes with the names of all the animals on them?

Good Morning, and what a morning it's been already. The farm supply store is having their customer appreciation day today and sent flyers in the mail. Anywhere from 10% up to 40% off, so I got there shortly after they opened at 7 am and got the stuff I needed and got out and back home within an hour. The line to the checkout stands circled half the perimeter of the store, but they sure moved quickly and the line for the loading dock for feed only had two vehicles in front of me. I can't imagine how busy it will be later on in the day. I got layer pellets for the hens and protein blocks for the llamas. Saved over $25.00 by buying them today. We still already have plenty of cracked corn since we buy it by the ton on a pallet.
So now, I have some time to breathe, eat and get ready for a doctor's appointment at 1 pm. I'm going in for a pneumonia shot. I got a flu shot over a week ago and, at that time, they asked me if I wanted a pneumonia shot also. I said that I have to check with my oncologist first. I did that last Wednesday when I went in for blood work and he said yes. Today will turn into a day of going out and getting errands done and I'll stop at the store on my way home. I'll see if TJ's still has the prime peppermint stuff on the shelves. I can't believe that they'd be sold out already, had to have stocked enough to get through Thanksgiving at least. Probably not enough to last for Christmas. In the past, they are always sold out of the specialty items before Christmas.

Anew, I'll check out that web site later, probably tomorrow.

The woodstove worked out very well yesterday. John and I had a good talk before lighting it up and he was good about not poking at it throughout the day. I'll see how it goes today, he is lighting it now. But, I'll be gone for awhile, so I won't know what he does for sure. Unless I come home to a lot of smoke, we'll see.

Hi, Ralph is off changing the oil in my car and going to a farm show so won't be back till bedtime. I've been plugging away on my list and will go to Good News Club in awhile. I finally drove the new car yesterday and I think I sit up higher which I like. I got to fill it up with gas too. We'll have to wait another week to get it inspected cause tomorrow is the day they do it and the Courthouse is closed for Veteran's Day. Last night was 4-H and I spent a good part of the day finishing up getting things ready for Achievement Night. Then the program only lasted about 20 minutes. Oh well.

Tomorrow I plan to start my "research" project and will get the flu and RSV shot - they said to allow 2 hours so I was able to make an appointment to see my insurance guy before hand. I wanted him to approve the letter I'm sending to cancel the insurance so it gets done correctly. What I'm going to will save me quite a bit a month and I should have gotten this done last year - too much procrastination. I'll go to Lori's from there.

Saturday was the County Achievement Celebration which was nice - good finger foods (I just logged as some pieces of pizza). Then we had our shoebox packing party and got 70 boxes packed. We loaded them in Lori's van where the wheelchair would go and unloaded them all when we got back to the house. Good thing we did cause they ended up taking Emily to the hospital - pneumonia. She might be coming home today - first hospital stay in 3 or 4 years.

Then Sunday was Youth Sunday. They are in charge of the church service. Thomas read the scripture and had the prayer. Two of the boys did the message and did a good job - talking about being branded in Christ. They had special music and a skit too. Then they fed everyone who wanted to stay. Good food and fun visiting. Jim stayed at the hospital with Emily so he had to miss out. They even had a nurse lined up. We were about to head home when we got a call from Julie crying. One of the bank president's daughters had been killed that morning and it hit her hard. So we went over and spent some time with her. The girl was headed back to college and somehow swerved into the other lane and was hit by a semi. She was a triplet.

Sheryl, Wycliffe Associates was started in 1967 to help Wycliffe Translators. But they are now getting into the translating end of it too. That's neat that your sister did a short term time with them. Ralph had a brother that was with Wycliffe Translators in Papua New Guinea. He was a linguist. He and his wife and five others went down in a plane in 1972.
Good to hear it's going pretty well with the wood stove. Did he leave it alone while you were gone? Hope your mom will make the "right " decision and be content to not go. Cool on the money you saved on feed. That's a help and you were smart to go early. Did you get any more peppermint?

Isabella, what a fun Saturday you had last week. Our weather is nice too - I'm appreciating the sunshine cause it's angle now helps warm up our house which is nice since the furnace went out Monday and it won't get looked at till Friday. Seems like things just keep happening. Ralph is still thinking about getting the wrecked car looked at to see what fixing it would cost. It's fun to hear about the things you and Dan do. Has he gotten all the stuff in your yard done?

I just realized I haven't driven "my" car since the tire was changed. Ralph is using it to drive to the farm to keep the new car nice.

Anew, so glad you go started on your menu plans before your feet got so bad and you can take advantage of the work you've done and put in the freezer. Smart to write down the aisles in the store for you.

Sheryl, one big meal a day sounds nice. As long as what you do works for the two of you, that's good.

Marcie, you said things were going to get busy at work. Hope you have time to breath.

Better get my stuff together and head out the door. Last week we gave out Bibles to the ones there - thought since we've been talking about doing devotions and some said they didn't have a Bible, we'd make sure everyone did. How excited they were. Several were gone so we'll take care of them this week.

Good Morning. I am so spoiled now since I know a doctor's office CAN run smoothly and on time. The oncologist office runs like clock-work. Now, I visit the PCP, and wait forever in the waiting room and then wait some more in a smaller room. I filled out the consent form for the pneumonia shot, (different nurse than with the flu shot) and I marked "yes" that I had gotten an immunization within the last two months. She questioned me on that and I told her I was here two weeks ago for the flu shot and she said there should be at least 4 weeks between immunizations. I said that their office made the appointment, shouldn't they know? I wouldn't have any idea that I needed to wait. She checked with the doctor and apparently, it was OK so she gave me the shot. I am thankful that she was conscientious enough to check and make sure. I have to go back in 2 months and get the second shot. Apparently the pneumonia shot comes in two stages.

I stopped by TJ's after my shot and they had restock the shelves. Looks like they have a good supply of everything this year. They have put it out earlier than usual, so hopefully, they will get another shipment in and have plenty through the holidays. I bought a few more things and will give more gifts. They have a really nice boxed tray of holiday cookies. I bought two of those. I want to take one to the physical therapy place with a thank you note for the people there who helped me with my arm. And, I bought more of the peppermint covered pretzels, I get a lot of comments on how good those are, even though I have yet to try them myself. I need to open one of the bags and check them out.

John is doing very well with the wood stove. He is leaving it alone for longer periods of time and not poking at it nearly so much. So far, So good! It does put a different warmth in the house than the electric space heaters. Nice and cozy and gives me that wintery feeling. We're 38 degrees this morning, colder nights and some light frost. The news stated snow on Mount Hood and a lot more expected this weekend. That's beautiful to look at and I'm glad we don't get much of it here at home.
I would never move John, but for some reason, last night, it entered my head that in years to come, after John passes, I would probably sell everything and move back to Southern California. Be closer to all my family and be much warmer in the winter.

Good morning. Good day yesterday. It took 10 minutes to get the things done to change insurance to self-pay and 2 1/2 hours to get started on the research - got a flu shot and a RSV shot and made $100. :) Have to keep a diary and watch for certain things but so far nothing. From there I went to Lori's. We've had a lot of pizza lately so stopped at Taco Bell. While we were eating the 5 year old made a comment that this is what we used to have (last year I stopped at Taco Bell more) - good memory for her age. Emily's still in the hospital so didn't have her to watch but I got some paperwork taken care of with Thomas, did dishes, straightened the house some and gathered up all the laundry - 3 very full baskets. I left when I was done so got home earlier.

I'm working on the laundry now and when Ralph comes home we're going to do his driver's license & my errands and then he'll take me up to the hospital to stay with Emily. Jim as something to do and Lori can't take the baby up there so can only go during the day when Maggie's at daycare. Pneumonia is basically over but her blood pressure is a little high so they want to start a med and observe so the stay is getting longer. I also need to be there tomorrow so I'll just spend the night so Ralph will take me and pick me up so the car with the 30 day tags won't just sit in the parking lot. Have to get it inspected and that can only be done certain days.

Yesterday was windier so we wondered if the house would cool down too much but it only got down to 65. We did dig out the heater but really haven't needed it. Sun is out again today so that will warm the house up.

Sheryl, it is cooler for you than here. I could see when Southern California would be a thought for someday. Glad it worked out to get your shot. More peppermint - yummy - how can you not open a bag and try them? A wood stove is a good kind of heat. Glad it's going well.

Got a little more to do so will drop in when I can and you all have a good day.

Curse you, Debora! (ha ha ha)
OK, I opened a bag of Peppermint Pretzel Slims after lunch and now I'm hooked, as the old saying goes,
"You Can't Eat Just One" !!!!!!!

Two years ago, when the guy at the store said these are very good, I bought them and ended up giving them as gifts and when I went back to buy some for myself, they were out of stock already. Last year, I didn't shop at all because I was so sick. So, this year, I'm going crazy buying up all these good things ahead of time. I tried the Peppermint Jo-Jo's last week, they are good, but a couple cookies go a long way. But, these pretzels...I could eat the whole bag.

I also have another new favorite, TJ's Clam Chowder. So good, rich and creamy and I think it's the best clam chowder I've ever had. I bought marinated grilled artichoke hearts and marinated mushrooms. Yum. I was going to put them in a salad to "dress" it up, but now, I'm just popping them in my mouth.

Good Morning. I survived...I closed up the bag and put a clip on it and left it alone. John looked over my shoulder as I was typing the previous comment yesterday and laughed at me. I told him to go have a peppermint pretzel and see what I'm talking about. That guy has so much self-control, he ate it, said it was good and that was that. He can eat one or two of anything and stop. I can't seem to stop until they are all gone.

A new dilemma, I see John's toothbrush and toothpaste in the living room this morning. I have no idea why. He obviously took them from the bathroom after I went to bed last night. I'll ask him when he wakes up, but chances are, he won't remember. In fact, he will probably come out and ask me if I took them when he goes into the bathroom this morning and finds them missing. Strange behavior becoming more and more routine.

I talked to my sister yesterday. She had a wonderful time on her vacation. She learned a lot about Simon, just by being with him for several days in a row and also through his children. Norma stayed in his oldest daughter's guest room. She learned that he is quite a procrastinator. Very much the opposite of her, she plans out everything and gets it done, either in time or ahead of time.
I also checked with her about flights for Joel's wedding. When is the best time for her to pick me up from the airport. We got that settled and I'll make my reservations/buy tickets today to get the better price. I'll be going down Thursday, January 28th and return Monday, February 1st. I trust that John will be fine for the weekend. I know our neighbors will check on him.
My Mom and I are going to go in together and buy them the china that they want. They are registered at Macy's. I am thinking of ordering it online and having it shipped directly to their new home. Do you think that is appropriate? It will sure save me from either traveling with it or trying to pick it up after I get down there. They bought a house already and Joel moved in two weeks ago, Janelle is living with her parents until after the wedding.

I saw on fb that Christina (csiegfried) and Steve's big day is coming up very soon. She posted that the countdown is in single digits now. Only 8 more days. So excited for them, young love and starting out on a life together.

I'll refill my mug and browse some more.

Good Morning. I'm here again, where's everybody else? I know, you are busy.

Not much new news here. John's behavior is becoming more bizarre. After I left here yesterday, I found his toothbrush and toothpaste in the living room. Strange. I am assuming that he came into our bathroom and took them to use in the guest bathroom, so as not to wake me up. But, it has never bothered me before, so why did he all of a sudden think of doing this just one time. I figured that he wouldn't remember and, sure enough, I was right. He doesn't have a clue how those items got out there. Another thing he's been doing in the last few months is keeping all the serving spoons. After he helps himself to whatever he wants, he licks the spoon and puts it on or by his plate. By the end of a meal, he has ALL the silverware next to him. Too funny. If I catch it in time, I tell him to put it back in the pot/dish/whatever it came out of. Good thing it's just the two of us, sometimes I tell him to put it back even after he's licked it.

My Mom told Norma that she does not want to go to the wedding. Norma said "fine, I'll RSVP for you." Now, Mom is so worried about what Joel will say when he gets the RSVP. I tell you, this woman is not happy unless she can worry about stuff. Always in turmoil. What an awful existence.

I guess that's it for now. I'll go refill my mug.

Debora, I'm praying that this huge hole in your hearts and lives will be filled with peace and many more blessings.

    Hi everyone,

Debora, I just read Sheryl's comment about your loss of little Emily. So very sorry! I will keep you and your family in my prayers for peace and comfort.

Sheryl, so interesting to hear about the changes John is going thru. Your easy going ways are such a blessing for him. I think it is definitely appropriate to order the china on line and have it shipped directly to their house. I'm sure there is something to check off that will say that it is a gift so that it comes with a card or note. Great that you got such a deal at the feed store. I will have to look for those addicting peppermint pretzels. I don't ever remember seeing them. I got all the stuff there last week to make their green bean casserole. We will be having Thanksgiving at Jami's house again this year. So happy to hear that Norma had a great vacation. I'm guessing Simon's being a procrastinator isn't a deal breaker. I think things like that are typical for a couple. Opposites such as one being a saver and one a tosser or one being a "get things done" and one being a procrastinator often go together well and create a good balance.

Anew, you are getting really good at the meal planning stuff. Great way to take care of yourself too. I'll have to take a look at the game sites you posted when I have a chance. Sounds like they could be interesting.

It is the 2nd Saturday of the month so we have our free library concert today. It will be outside this time so that should be interesting. The group playing sounds good too. We are really looking forward to it. I'm hoping Dan will want to eat out afterward but I am prepared with leftovers if he decides not to. He is outside now fertilizing our shrubbery and our lemon tree. I guess I should go help. Maybe I've procrastinated long enough for him to be almost done.

Talk to you all later or tomorrow.

This is a beautiful tribute to Emily that a family member wrote on facebook today.

Early this morning our son-in-law's niece, 13 year old Emily, changed her residence to heaven. Here on earth, Emily never walked, never spoke, never giggled, never sang a silly song, never tasted food, never played outside in the summer sun, never built a snowman, never whispered secrets to a special friend, never picked a flower for her mommy, never held a crayon, never went to school, never hunted Easter eggs or opened a Christmas present, never reached out for a hug or to be picked up, never dreamed of the future . . . so many "nevers." But, oh my--could she ever smile!. She was always sweetness and smiles! Today Emily is not only walking, she's running and skipping, she's telling stories and singing songs to Jesus, she's walking in the sunlight and picking flowers, she's creating beautiful pictures, she knows more than we'll ever know here on earth, she's lifting her arms to be picked up and swung around in joy by Jesus, she's realizing all the dreams she never even knew were there, and along with that beautiful smile, she's full of giggles and outright laughter!!! We will miss you here, Emily, but would not make you come back for a second! Can't wait to see you whole.

Debora, this brings tears, but also is so joyous. Thinking of Emily in heaven, no longer imprisoned in that body.

Isabella, at my Trader Joe's store, the Peppermint Pretzel Slims are on a shelf with Holiday stuff above the freezer section. I couldn't find them on the regular chips and snacks aisle with all the other pretzels and had to ask for them. The Belgium Chocolate Truffles are also "to die for".

Hi everyone, I popped in earlier and saw the news about Emily so I wanted to respond to it right at that moment instead of waiting until I got home from the grocery store. So so sorry to hear about her Arobed.

We had breakfast this morning with our friends, it was their 56th wedding anniversary so we treated them at our favorite place. I asked where they wanted to go and that's where they wanted to go. It's a fantastic little diner and I always get the chicken fried steak and eggs. I think it's a whole days calories in one meal so I planned a very light sandwich dinner, lol. Have to combat that stuff! It's our first time eating out in at least 6 weeks if not longer since I started the menu planning. We had our friends over last Friday night for dinner, they wanted to go out but I had already started dinner so I offered for them to come eat with us. It was a nice unplanned evening.

The menu planning is changing because I am getting a bit frustrated with the Gathered Table program. I have cleared the pantry and want it to stay clear but every single week the items I had put into the pantry when I first opened the account continually show back up in the pantry and not on the shopping list. I don't want that, I empty it and it doesn't stay empty, you have to take out each individual item one at a time, it's very time consuming.

Another problem I am having with it is when I remove something from the shopping list because it is something I already have, like meats, it is also saying those things are already purchased when it is a brand new week instead of adding everything from the menu to the shopping list. I can uncheck all those items (also one at a time) and return them to the shopping list, just like I do the pantry items and I can see them on the list, on the screen in front of me. When I print it, those items are not on the list, and if I email it to myself, those items are not on the list that way either. I have tried copy and paste of the page but they have it locked down so that you can't do that.

So, here is my fix. I am making my menu and printing the page, then I am opening my word pad, then opening each menu and copy and pasting the ingredients needed for each recipe on that weeks menu. Now I can print a sheet of those items and staple them to the menu so I know what I need for it and it makes writing the shopping list very easy. I am saving a copy of each complete recipe in digital form so when I make the meal I can open each one and see the instructions for it. This saves ink and paper for me and I think I will start a menu folder to keep in the kitchen cabinet. So, I will do this for a couple of months because I like being able to see the weekly menu in a nice print on the page, it's easy to read and I can get quite a few menus like it. I am already saving all my recipes from the site I have added to it and eventually I will have a great menu and recipe file with my own recipes I use all the time. I may just go ahead and do the same with all the menu's I have from the start, then make new menus using all the old weeks available. If I do that I can complete my need for Gathered Table in a much faster manner.

It will cost me dearly, but it's the best plan I can come up with and it's working, so long as I do the work I shouldn't have to, lol. Now I just look at the recipe ingredients and put what I need on my shopping list, it worked out great today. I have three recipes that need 1/2 cup of cheese in them, so I wrote the cheese down on the list, and each time I came to cheese in a recipe I wrote 1/2 cup. When I was done with my shopping list I new I needed 1 1/2 cups of cheese for this weeks menu. It worked the same for all the veggies and fruits too. Perfect, and oh so much easier and less time spent doing it. Eventually I will close the Gathered Table account and keep my $10 per month.

I think my final thing I will do before I staple things together will be to save the menu and the corresponding ingredients list needed for the menu in our scanner called "Neat Desk". Then when I wear out the menu I am using I can print the new page I need. I can also add my complete recipes to the file also, it would be a complete digital menu planner. I can always use a blank menu sheet like I did last week if I want to stray from a set menu anytime so it's definitely flexible.

SannFerris-You have a heart of gold, it takes a lot of patience for what you are handling day in and day out. One thing I have noticed I am doing is forgetting that I left a stove burner on low after cooking dinner. It could be that I am letting some water heat in a pan I am soaking with some soapy water in it to make it easier to clean, or just plain forgot I left it on a very low heat to keep something warm. My husband has asked me a couple of times if I left the stove on, so I need to be more careful about that, thank goodness it's on very low temp so I shouldn't be burning the house down, but still, that is really unsafe. I'm glad your mom made her decision about the wedding, hopefully it will come and go without too much trouble. I think it's perfect to order a gift online and send directly to their home. Go for it! I wanted to say, I am so jealous of all of you who have Trader Joes around. I miss the cold food section, you know the one you get the cheeses and things? LOL.

Isyvanek-believe it or not, I am the procrastinator in this marriage, can you believe it?

LOL, it's truuuueeeee! I may meal plan and I may be doing alot of research but I have a heck of a time keeping things going in other areas, especially when I can't sleep like right now. It totally blows my days and I can't make a bunch of noise at night or walk around the bedroom to get things done, lol.

Your outdoor concert sounds great again, I sure miss it out there.

I'm going to close out and try to get some sleep, I am tired and haven't had much so need to snooze some. I hope you all have a good day.

Oh my SannFerris-Emily's tribute is so beautiful, now I am crying. It's just so beautiful.
