Hibachi bowls are fantastic - Athijade - and kudos to you for finding the energy/inspiration for putting that together for dinner!

100% Yooly - that is exactly what I was thinking.

I have no meal plan yet for next week and I go to the grocery tomorrow morning. Ugh. Being sick has made me not want to do a dang thing.

Tonight is BLTs with an egg and mac and cheese. Like Kraft mac and cheese. Nothing fancy.

Have made some egg/yogurt salad. Some mustard, some pickled vegetables, some onion and garlic powder as fresh wasn't handy! YES, you CAN burn boiled eggs... they explode like POPCORN.... ask me how I know?!?!?!?!?

(No I didn't use THAT batch! Dog seems to be happy with them!)

Oh and the smell of those HARD boiled burned eggs! I guess opening the windows wasn’t possible in cold and snowy Vancouver?

Easy method for hard boiled eggs 🥚. Put eggs in pan. Cover eggs with about 1-2 inches of water. Bring to boil. Turn OFF heat and cover pan. Let sit about 15 -20 minutes. The eggs can sit in the water a while even if you wander away - no exploding!

That looks a bit like the clay planter I baked in my oven....a christmas present for a friend....oh I burned it something fierce. The stench was (is) horrible. It was white polymer clay - not it ranges from mid brown to shiny black :p same colours as those spots on your popcorn egg, PAV.

Well isn't it amazing how GREAT MINDS think alike?!?!?!? (see I can learn!)... oh, wait! That's EXACTLY what I was doing.... oh... but there was a minor MALFUNCTION since I was in another room listening to popping noises. Any guesses where things went sideways?!

Was going to be dim sum before the plans took a snow day. green beans nuked (~160), baby potatoes err boiled without scorching (~280), a can of rio mare corn insalatissime (~300 Cal), some nice vinegar (~15), and a couple of slices of bread (~160).... A good quantity that could have been broken down into two meals... or a single large brunch.

That Rio Mare insalatissime must be a Canadian thing. We don’t have it here and it sounds interesting.

Today was black bean, corn, green peppers salad with some smoked boudain sausage. Quick meal cause we had to get an early start making our annual cookie deliveries.
Tomorrow it’s hot pork tamales we were gifted this afternoon. Homemade- which is a rarity nowadays.

My guess is you didn’t stay and watch the pot boil so you could turn it off? Yup that’s how you get explosive eggs! Ask me how I know .....

I'd never heard of Rio Mare insalatissime until this moment. Seems like a pretty nice meal in a can.

Don't trust the ads: it's a scam to use less tuna and more cheapie ingredients that they put together in a meal to sell for MORE!!!!

That said... i did fluff up the corn one (which was the least amount of calories) with some extra salad-ey ingredients and it was far from terrible!

Of course you could do the same yourself with a plain can of tuna... but hey, where would be the fun of paying more for less then!?!?!?

Supper for me tonight is three things that I had completely cut from my diet: Toasted English muffin with crunchy just peanuts peanut butter and slices of banana.
    So far just one.
Will definitely have one more. Hopefully it will stop there. Still at the trying not to apply restrictions stage of my return to healthier eating. It's a pretty hit and miss endeavour. But one major accomplishment is that these English muffins have been in the house for hours. Six hours to be exact :)
Might sound silly - but for me that is significant.

It's not silly at all. Every step forward is a step in the right direction. Sure, you may take a step back here and there, but if you keep pushing forward you will eventually get to where you need to go.

While I have never used that thinking for diet (though maybe I should), I have used it when I was trying to get out of a depressive episode a time or two.

And every step forward should be celebrated.

And every step back should be used as a learning opportunity.

Look at me all full of positive thinking this morning. Who is this person?

Thank you for your well wishes! And...it is very good to know you, Ms Positivity. Your words are very wise, as well as positive.

I ended up staying up until 6 this morning. Perhaps needless to say the package of 6 English muffins were retired before I retired myself. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole thing. But I was on a roll...perhaps a muffin fueld roll?....so I kept going. I'm working on a painting that I donated to a Cat Rescue fundraising auction. The winning bidder wants it for a Christmas present. So perhaps it was a win. Occasional muffin-fueled all-nighters I can accept. OCCASIONAL. It is a cute pup so it is a win-win situation...maybe. :)

It was 16 hours before all 6 were gone. And I stayed productive. So it was a step forward. Habit of late would have seen me eat all six at once with something sweet on top...plus something else....then a nap to get through the sugar crash.

Well.... an all nighter requires SOME fuel. So it sounds better than before for sure. Now... cat rescue is getting a puppy? That seems... backwards!

Cat rescue is getting the money - bidder wants me to paint a puppy - I'm obedient :)
I'll post a pic when I'm done - he is the funniest looking pup - and he happens to share the same name as The Boy, so I have a soft spot for him.

But but but DOG rescue should get puppies!
    CAT rescue should get cats!
    It is... like...
    cognitive dissonance
    alarm

    meltdown anticipated...
    :confounded:
    :cold_sweat:

next thing you know you'll go to a bunny rescue and paint vegetables!!!!!!!

Let's see.... let's see.... (br)lunch was 191g spiral zucchini and 205g spiral beats with the last 33g of the pistachio pesto jar someone brought into the house back in late October. Let's see if I can manage to get in a couple of reasonable days (-250 to -500 real) before the "holiday cheer" starts cheering!

I ordered in Indian food last night. It is supposed to get bitterly cold starting around noon today, along with snow and very high winds. So wanted to be sure I had food to eat. My ratings 1-5 stars:

    Regular Naan: 4.5 stars
Garlic Naan: 4 stars (garlic was a bit bitter)
Biryani: 3.5 stars (good flavor but a bit spicier then I enjoy and not enough raita to cool it down enough)
Korma: 5+ stars (this was amazing!!!)

I will get 2 more meals out of what I have (1 biryani and 1 korma). Will for sure order from this place again and even go check it out in person because it is right down the street from me.

Spent some time this morning reworking my Food Diary so I can hopefully pick that up after the holiday crazies.

Air Frying frozen Brussels sprouts? Outside was nice and black but core was pretty soft.... hmm... not terrible but not great.

So what would you think would be the ONE thing I've been trying all day?

"don't use the air fryer for grilled cheese says the manual...." So here we are on slice 4 of bread and slice 4 of cheese... and the results have been far from terrible actually. Plus another 2 slices of bread that were forgotten in the "roast" settin and became a beautiful black but not charcoal through and through... dog loved them! Dehydrate setting worked pretty awesome for her fish too, saving hours compared to the normal dehydrator.

Not sure how long the honeymoon will last though

The price WAS right and I did have a coupon to use that was sort of going to waste... yes @Yoolypr it was on BOXING DAY sale...

    You go, PAV.
How about crispy lettuce? Dang...I forgot how expensive that is these days....hmmm....you are such an adventurer I'm sure you will have something outrageous in there today.

Of course the air fryer was on sale - with coupon yet! Your other father is proud of you. 👍

I think the thing with kitchen gadgets like this is to find a way to make several staple recipes in it regularly. Then experiment. That way you’re actually going to use it often. Hubby and son did a lot of online recipe reading. The air fryer is in use two or three times a week.

I think the no cheese caution is cause melted cheese gets all over unless you’re paying attention.

I've been blessed today. I'm still hobbling around with a crutch - and last night a new friend/old acquaintance, Debbie, insisted on coming by to walk the little girl. Not only did she come walk the girl - but she brought me a huge bowl of green salad. No dressing. Just a whole bowl of fresh prepped veggies.

    Wow.

Ironically - I know this person because for 20 odd years she ran a chip truck in Hamilton (in the corner of the lot outside of the drive thru beer store so you know she is a tough cookie) where Isaac and Laine and I liked to stop for lunch sometimes. She gave up the chip truck because it was just getting a bit too much (the drug issues here, as in many cities, has turned the downtown area into a bit of a nightmare). Then I was lucky enough to run into her outside of her house this summer while walking the dog and we are becoming friends.

But how much better can it get? Instead of fries (so delicious, but alas not good), today I was blessed with a salad from her.

    2023 I'm ready for you!

Wow Debbie is smart! Hmmm..... air fryer is SUPPOSED to be good for fries!

I can't figure out though it seems to me that this sucker gets hotter in the grill or roast setting than it does on the "air fry" setting.

I also am wondering what is going on with "gourmia" and costco -- have they really put out a product that doesn't have an internal temperature sensor? I'm thinking that they don't have one in there and they are just basing their temperature settings on timing. Which to me would be mind-boggling both in terms of cooking correctly and it being a safety feature. Not even counting how inexpensive such a sensor would be.

If they have one in there, then I don't understand why the "preheat" setting doesn't automatically end when the temperature is reached but keeps going on based on time. -- oh well.

Wish I could help with your questions about the air fryer PAV. However it’s hubby’s toy. I’m strictly an oven, stove, pot and pan person. I still do veggie chopping by hand.

Gadgets are just another thing to clean up and speed isn’t important to me. Yup- old school all the way.

And a happy new year from sunny Texas to you too Dante. We have survived the holidays hopefully without too much damage.

I don’t know how Dante makes a simple egg, cheese and veggie dish look like a gourmet feast! Just beautiful and so simple.
