Bacon maple donut? That sounds pretty incredible....

Combat was heaps of fun today... some old tracks but good ones. Was tough.

    Afternoon lovelies!
Sorry I've been a little MIA, been busy again!

Currently hitting my head against the bench reading about how Paleo cures every.fricking.thing... I have issues. I know that crap makes me mad, but I still read it.

In other news I have found an accredited brand new university degree - online! Yay!! A real one through La Trobe Uni, not associated with naturopathy in any way and fully accredited by the Aussie Nutritional Society.

Bad news? Husband doesn't finish his Masters until June next year so I have to wait one.whole.year  Oh well.

Did my first S&P3 today - the wave was interesting!

Am now refueling with coffee and a snack plate before my jog this afternoon.

My house is spiffy clean. And I learned my lesson last week when I wasn't here for bible study and left the husband in charge... the boy child's baked goods box is now safely tucked away in the cupboard away from sneaky little fingers. They cleaned out his fresh stash (my son has Coeliac Disease & is lactose intolerant, I bake goodies every weekend for school) when I forgot to put the container away and left it on the kitchen bench.... and.... left crumbled up cookies and muffins all over the rumpus room floor. To say I almost had conniptions is an understatement. Especially as their mother knew about it! My kiddo was left with 3 mini apple muffins and 4 cookies :disappointed: I had to bake again - the flour mix I use is not exactly cheap.

    Ahhhh.... *calm blue ocean*

Okay, I still have a few things to achieve before heading off to pick the kids up and go for my weekly jog/walk/run/debrief.

    Be good!

    Good job Beeps!

DNA-my dd and Dh are gf also, and I would be livid if guests ate all thier gf stuff. Brownies are the most likely to be taken...gf bake mixes are expensive!!

Dawn-good job on the 5k!! I'm doing a thanksgiving one, but haven't run miles in ages. I'll start working on that soon. Good for you!

Jo-hope you find a good fit! You're doing great, and cutting calories while adding cardio is tough. I'm trying something similar and also find myself hungry...

Lifted today, and yesterday! Yay! I don't like upper body day, though. My shoulders have an odd, weak discomfort to them...but I'm excited I've been hitting it more often. Planning cardio tomorrow, then lift Wednesday and Thursday.

Oh yeah, gotta work on my squat form. I'm leaning forward too much. Sigh.

    My butt hurts lol
A deadlifts session followed by a 4km run is an interesting combo

My house is clean and I must work, but thought I'd check in on you lot first

Beeps, 95 is better than 50, which is better than 10, which is better than nothing, unless you're doing bodyweight exercises, in which case, they are better than sitting on the couch

Well I'm doing a quick 180 on the whole cutting thing..... check in with PT for measurements etc today. Weight is down nearly 2kg since I weighed in last week (stupid scales), body fat is down 0.8% and most measurements are down. With the exception of flexed arms (hurrah - muscle!) and suprailliac which is always a dodgy measurement on me for some reason. So, PT says carry on eating more and just add in one HIIT per week. Okey dokey, bring on the food...... :D

Julie - Have fun getting ready for your 5k and good luck with the squat form.

Beeps and DNA - Good job.

Jo - ooo fun. I like the idea of bulking cause food. mmmm

I'm back to regular schedule. Jog this morning and will lift after work tonight. Shoulder is fine, but aggravating it at work put a slight stall in my lifting. Looking forward to tonight though have a feeling deadlift is going to feel heavy as it has been lately. I blame the deficit. lol

Thanks julie and dna....jo-go eat something for me, too! BOOM!

I need to do a Sept-Dec challenge of some sort. Haven't figured out "what", yet...but i have a couple weeks to figure it out.

    Today was a walk with a gf....ZOOM!

    You guys sound good!

    DNA-sore butt is good!
Jo-you dropped that in a week? Wow! I'll be checking your diary! God job on the losses.
    Dawn-glad youre back to routine.
Beeps-wish it was cool enough here to go for a nice long walk.

I'm doing well. Lifted Sunday and Monday, did some intervals on the treadmill tonight. All good. On target for 5 workouts this week (4 lifting). Hoping to add a bit of muscle...since trying to lose fat wasn't going well. Maybe if I can manage to gain muscle without gaining fat I'll be leaner eventually? :)

Nice to be back lifting after an unexpected week off. Had already planned a de-load on overhead pressed and the rest stayed the same except deadlift, which I increased by 5. Really trying to work up to that 225 even though every time it feels rather heavy. I ended up skipping rdl and hip thrust at the end, as now I'm trying to bake cake before bed. One of my coworkers put in her notice so tomorrow is her last day and I promised cake.

    Workout B

low bar squat 3x5 @ 135 - okay but the power cage is a tiny bit tall for me on low bar so I struggled to put the bar back after a couple of the sets.

overhead press 3x5 @ 60 - easy enough though last reps I could feel it. No problem with shoulder at least.

leg press 3x10 @ 200 - had to wait for area to deadlift.

deadlift 1x5 @ 135 warm up and 1x5 @ 185 - heavy but still managing though had doubts on getting all 5 reps.

good morning 3x12 @ 60 - used the fixed weight barbell so had to clean it each time

Now to get the cake baked and get some sleep.

Hey guys. I am still here, I have been trying to be diligent about logging and lifting but just haven't been on the forums much. Seems like everyone is doing really well. Beeps, your holiday looks like it was amazing!!

For anyone else who has done Supercharged, did you find Strength and power 1 really long? It takes me an hour and a half in the gym to get through the workouts and that is not included showering time so if I want to work out before work then I have to get up insanely early!
I failed on a squat for the first time last week. I have been stuck on 42.5kg (about 94lbs) for ages so I decided to push myself to try 45kg (99lbs). I managed 3 reps but on the 4th I went down, and then continued to go down! it was a little embarrassing but I was glad to have the safety rails there to catch the bar. Does anyone have any tips for improving my squat? I just can't seem to get any heavier and I really want to hit 100lbs!

    :)

Hell no, I did not do that in a week. Not fat loss anyway! Scale issue/ clothing/ time of the month.... Who knows?!

Dou - been there done that. Don't feel bad. My best advice is to not squat for a while. Or drop the weight and do higher reps. Or sub in an alternative (I'm currently leg pressing instead of squats to get over my own issues). Sometimes a step back results in two steps forward

DouMc....90 minute workouts are TOO long for me. I really do have a strong, strong bias for the 60-min mark.

    I did lift, today.

I also saw my eye surgeon....next eye surgery is (hopefully) in september. So, I am really going to hit the gym HARD before then. And, I am going to work on fat-loss, too. I want my spring/2015 body BACK! It would be nice if it is BACK by november!!

    Go lift heavy stuff, gals!

    BOOM!

So... my collarbones are almost always sore. Is this a heavy lifting thing?
  • DouMc
    DouMc Posts: 1,689 Member
Thanks for the advice Jo. I don't want to stop squatting for a while so I think I will drop the weights and focus on making sure my form is right. I went to the gym today and had a really weak day because I wasn't feeling great (possibly due to too much wine last night, or too much mexican food at lunch time today). I reduced my squats to 90lbs and managed to get full sets although they still felt really hard! I'm hoping next time I feel stronger.

Beeps, I agree with you that 90 mins is too long. I am hoping that strength and power 2 is shorter because, while I try to fit everything into my gym session, I have only managed to do the full workout twice due to time contraints.

What is the eye surgery for? I hope it is nothing serious?

Janie, I have never experienced sore collarbones so I can't comment on that. sorry!

Janie, I've not had sore collarbones either, sorry!

I've found S&P to be longer, although my longest session was yesterday (S&P3) at about 85 minutes because my arms were fried and I took rest periods like a pro lol But I have the benefit of having everything set up how I want it and not having to share, so I have it a lot easier in that regard.

Janie - what lifts are you doing? Can't say that I've had sore collarbone but bench can make my pecs and that region sore

    DawnEmbers Posts: 2,451 Member
I'm curious about the collar bone thing too, as to what lifts. The only thing I could think of is maybe front squats, depending on how one holds the bar. I know where the bar rested if I did cross arms was a little sore but don't think it was ever the collar bone.

I went to the gym before work today so didn't spend too long but my arms will feel it after work as it's freight day.

    Workout A

high bar squat 3x5 @ 160 - same as before, still feels heavy and I'm slow with it

bench press 3x5 @ 85 - working my way back up after the de-load, felt okay

    bent-over row 3x6 @ 75 - did a de-load, pretty easy

lat pulldown 3x10 @ 70 - hadn't done the accessory in a while, it was challenging after 8 reps

Doumc - i had emergency eye surgery in late june, for a detached retina....so, this second surgery is to remove the silicone oil they injected during june surgery, now that retina has healed.

    Nice lifting, ladies!

I lifted today, too....we have company the next few days, but I will manage to lift on friday and cardio on saturday. BOOM!

Ouch, that sounds painful. But I am guessing for your reply that it is all healed now and there are no problems? I hope the second surgery doesn't have too long of a healing time.

On the collarbone thing, the only time I have hurt there was when I was doing cleans and I bruised myself! But I am guessing that's not the kind of pain you mean!

dna, I am jealous that you get to lift at home. I get so annoyed with people in the gym! I'm moving house soon so hopefully I will be able to find a nice gym in my new town.

    dawn, your numbers are amazing!!

DouMc, I finished Supercharged a month or two ago and found all of S&P took a long time. Pretty much most of my workouts in S&P 1-3 were at least 60 minutes, if not more like 80 or 90 on average. I don't move particularly slowly but maybe I needed more rest or something? I don't really recall. I do know that I'm enjoying Phase 1 of NROL Abs right now cause the workouts are taking me about 70 minutes including warm up and cool down.

I'm in the hour camp too. I will stay past that and stretch, especially on leg day. But an hour is enough for me usually.

Beeps-hope your eye procedure goes well and you heal quickly. I'm still relosing my summer vacation gain...sigh. I'd love to get back to early 2015 body too, which is ironic, as I was still hoping to lose then!

Dou-good to see you. Hope you're doing well.

Janie-front squat push presses could do the sore collar bone thing. Aside from that, can't imagine another way it would happen?

I lifted today. Miscalculated the plates for the WHTs and added 15lbs instead of 5!! I was wondering why it was so hard! I still managed it, and am happy about that, but man, that was hard! Good workout today! I've now lifted 3x this week, and run once. Yay! Plan to lift tomorrow for workout #5!! It'll be the fist week I've hit than goal. I usually shoot for 4x and get there 3 times. Good week.

ugh, this morning I dragged myself out of bed to go to the gym before work. But when I got there I realised that I had forgotten to bring a towel so I couldn't shower afterwards. And since I can't go into work drenched in sweat I had to turn around and leave again. I am hoping to get off work early enough to go afterwards but it doesn't seem likely. And I am away all weekend so it will be Monday at the earliest before I can lift again.

Well done for managing the higher weight Julie! I have never done that with plates but I did one day pick up two different sized dumbbells and wonder why one side of my body felt so much stronger than the other!

    I lifted today, too!

My eye surgery is sept 4....so, two more weeks I CAN lift until then....then a two-week "no lifting" mandate (but i can walk....) .... And then I should be cleared for more lifting! Yaaaaayyyyyy!!

I have also built my "Fall Back Challenge"....so, will lose ten lbs (or ten inches....or five pounds and five inches!) in ten weeks. I want to FOCUS. Particularly with these lifting-lapses, I need to have some other (good) things going on.

    BOOM!

Beeps - Hope the surgery goes well. Good luck with your fall challenge too.

I have to go dress shopping soon since my stepsister's wedding is the beginning of November. I've never had to shop for a formal dress alone before. A coworker has offered to go with me since my family lives in a different state than me.

Today I jogged 4 miles, though later than normal. Got lucky that it was a cooler morning than earlier this week because after alarm went off, I went back to sleep. oops

Dawn - nice to have a good, critical eye with you for dress-shopping! SMRT!

Got my cardio done....then weighed myself. "Yuck" is a HUGE understatement...so, yes, a bodyfat loss-challenge is HIGHlY motivating, for me, right now.

    ZOOM! ...for the walk....

And BOOM! ....for never giving up on myself.

    :)

Dou - that's the worst! Think I'd have put myself under a hand dryer hahaha

Julie - nice result on the WHT - far better that way round than it being less than you thought! Nice work.

Dawn - glad you still got the run in despite the sleep in. I can't remember the last time I had a sleep in :/

Did leg day and combat at the new gym yesterday. I loved the class but lifting is much easier in my current gym, mainly due to space. I think I'm going to have to do a trial for a few weeks to see if I can feel comfy there. There were quite a few ladies lifting yesterday which was good to see although a little daunting. Hate being the new person!

Combat at old gym today. Back to work tomorrow so trying to schedule 3 lifting sessions, 2 combats and 1 HIIT into my week could be challenging.

Jo-ambitious week ahead! I see lots of women in our gym these days,. Inspiring! Combat after leg day? Ouch!

Beeps-go girl! You know how to do it!

Dawn-running and extra sleep? Not too shabby! I'm taking your example and starting to add a bit of running to my weekly routine :).

Dou-kudos on going! Bummer on the towel :(. That's disappointing. Hope you can hit it hard this week!

Resting today, hope to lift tomorrow. Maybe I'll add a bit of a run after? If Dh goes that'll make it tougher...when he's done, he's done! ;)

Feeling good...hoping adding in more cardio and maybe cleaning up my carb sources will get me some fat loss this week? We'll see.

Julie - have fun running. I probably sleep too much. Need to work on that so I can get other things done.

Jo - I sleep in often. I have no kids and I work close shifts. Aside from the cat waking me up for food and such, I can get up whenever I want at this point.

    Gym after work as usual.

    Workout B

low bar squat 3x5 @ 140 - not bad, decided to increase this time

overhead press 3x5 @ 65 - working back up, feels easy at first but challenging by the end

    deadlift 1x5 @ 135 warmup then 1x5 @ 190 - so heavy, barely managed

clean/front squat 3x8 @ 55 - eh, wrist got cranky during some of it, also hit collar with bar a few times

incline db bench press 3x10 @ 27.5 - not bad

We will see about running in the morning when it gets here. It's a little smokey outside from fires in other places.
