Jo - I sleep in often. I have no kids and I work close shifts. Aside from the cat waking me up for food and such, I can get up whenever I want at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my hubby and my kids. But O.M.G. I am nearly weeping thinking about how different my life could have been. Even a few minutes to myself..... with no one else to think about.... would be bliss. In fact, maybe this is the ultimate reason why I work out..... just me time. With my iPod turned up so high that with any luck one day it will deafen me and I will no longer hear the demands made of me.

Yes... I've had a bit of a day. Off to the kitchen now for more wine ........ my $85 bottle has been opened....

And I decided to sleep instead of run. Hopefully I can get more discipline in September. I can't wait for November though, I need a vacation. Me time is good. I can't wait to have a family but being single and soon 31 isn't really conducive to that at this stage. *sighs*

ooo wine

Hello all
I am less depressed but this fall brings a lot of changes. I am going to do some bodyweight or dumbbell lifting less than 25lbs twice a week and aerobic activity twice a week because that seems achievable.
I have to drive a lot for work so less time is available to go to the gym.
I am finally on top of this depression thing.

28'C today!!!!!
There's a bit of cloud, but it's WARM. Got my sweat on in the garage during my session. This afternoon's run should be interesting

My gorgeous Pmag!! Start slow sweetie and go from there, you've got this :kissing_heart:

Jo, you need to live closer lol Or I need to move... I'm happy with either option
I love my family, but I mentally kick myself with all those years I wasted in my 20's when I could've been taking care of myself and my needs a little better.

Speaking of family, husband is home today with an assignment due tonight. It's on internet security. I cannot un-hear the stories he's been telling me :open_mouth:
He comes up about 11am and asks what's for lunch... dude, seriously? Leftovers. Fridge.

He went to the supermarket and bought steak :expressionless:
I had my usual lol I just don't eat a lot during the day - I'm too freaking busy. But now I do have some cooked steak in the fridge to have with dinner tonight :naughty:

I know, right? We'd have some awesome wine-deserving-gym sessions. Although.... no years wasted in my 20's... I was 19 when I had my eldest and had all 3 by the time I was 24 (yes Dawn, I'm the same age as you with a 12, 9 and 7 yr old LOL). I am waiting for my 40's to enjoy spending time on MYSELF..... and oh man, there will be NO time wasted.

Rest day for me today. Well.... was supposed to be HIIT but that didn't happen. Gym tomorrow.

Congrats, pmagnan!! Nice to see you back at it.

jo_marnes.....I think every mom/partner on the planet "wishes" for some time, unencumbered, to "do what we want". Yahoo!!!

I lifted today. I walked today. I began my fatloss challenge. All is well.

Sleeeeppppppyyyyyy....

Which is what you get when you stay up with the husband while he's doing an assignment because he wants you to edit the damn thing.

Oh well. It got done and submitted

I am so freaking glad that by the time I am 40yo (in 4 years time *sob*) I will have a 16yo and a 12yo and they can look after themselves

Which reminds me... 15yr wedding anniversary at the end of this year... what to do... what to do... (I need to start thinking and planning now or nothing will happen lol)

Yup, when I'm 40 mine will be 21, 18 and 16. My own personal taxi drivers :D

Glad you got the assignment sorted - always a relief.

Lifted upper body today.... improvements seen in almost every lift (either weight or reps) - wooohoooo.

Now must also go to work :(

I am pleased that my oldest is twelve - she can stay with the eight year old while my husband and I go out to eat.

He did a ketogenic diet and lost twenty lbs. he has kept it off for four months so far.

Nice workout Jo

Pmag, I am sorry things have been so crappy for you lately. Glad you are feeling better though.

I am 31 and still no kids so I am with you dawn. And as for wasting my time in my 20's....that depends, is drinking lots and having lots and lots of fun wasting time? I think not! But I probably could have taken care of myself a little better!

Dawn, I understand about going dress shopping. I always have to bring somebody because I am incapable of deciding if something looks good on me or not!

Beeps, nice work. you are on a roll!

Jo, I considered standing under the hand drier, or trying to try myself with my hand towel. I probably spent about 5 minutes sitting in the gym wondering what level of nakedness was acceptable before deciding that even if everyone else didn't mind I would be far too uncomfortable. So I left. :disappointed:

My diet has been terrible all weekend. I went to a music festival with a friend so my intake consisted of burgers, hot dogs and beer. And zero exercise. I am trying to psych myself up for the gym now but sitting at home in my dressing gown just seems like such a nice way to spend the day!

dnamouse, our youngest kids are now 13 and 14 and it DOES make a world of difference! Also, our 15th anniv was in June....which was why, in part, we chose to go to europe this year. Yay!

jo_marnes....well, I am way over forty, but it is still nice to have teenagers (rather than toddlers). :)

It is a lifting day, today. BOOM!

(Also, I caught up on ALL of my Bret C. Reading, yesterday.....and I am EXCITED about lifting, again....in a BIG way!!)

Finally was a little less lazy and jogged. Normally I do 2 miles on Tuesday since it's my short run and lift day, but since I skipped the Sunday one again, I jogged 3 miles this morning.

Dress shopping was never fun but I also didn't have many options. Even with driving to Colorado for prom dresses (from small town Wyoming), I didn't really have much to pick from being over a size 18. Not much fit so in the end it was the black one or the red one, same design. Having friends helped the experience suck a little less though. With my older stepsister's wedding, it was a struggle but helped to have my mom since I don't know what to wear for the events. Still wasn't all that fun being a size 20/22. Now, it's different because 70 lbs later, I have far more options but I have never experienced that. I will probably text my mom some pictures too but having someone with should help so I don't get too overwhelmed. I don't even have to drive 2 hours to get to a shopping place since I live near Portland now. I don't know where to begin though but it's exciting too.

One of my step-uncles waited a little before getting married and having kids. They now have 7. So you never know. And for some, at least you don't have that much craziness in one house.

Lifted today....tried those push-ups that Bret C. recommended where you start on the floor, tighten the glutes (core), and then rise up and back down. In his video, the woman who models the move can do 10 push-ups from the floor the regular way, but she could only do 3 the way Bret C. was demonstrating.

I tried it and I don't even think the 2 that I did were "proper form". Meaning....I kind of had to raise my head off the floor before the rest of my body would join the motion.

Anyway, I did do "2" of them.

His video says that if you do them twice a week, for six weeks, you should have a markedly improved regular-plank push-up. So, for kicks, I am gonna give this a whirl.

Those push ups sound interesting Beeps. Is there a link to the info on them online or does he talk about it in a book?

Tonight's lifting session including music from pandora. Got my new wireless headphones all set up so had to bring my phone with me to lift, which was different.

Workout A

high bar squat 3x5 @ 165 - barely. Struggled but made it through all of the reps. Going to be very slow going from here, when I do increase.

bench press 3x5 @ 90 - meh. Wasn't bad but still struggling with leg drive and getting it off the rack to start. I tried putting it on the lower "oh @#^&" spot but that doesn't work either. It's just a tiny bit too high up for me on the regular spot. Hard to keep shoulders and everything in place during.

bent over row 3x5 @ 80 - easy enough.

Accessories:
leg press 3x10 @ 200 - managed and might increase soon

good morning 3x12 @ 60 - fine as normal

rdl 3x10 @ 90 - okay but grip by the end was rough
hip thrust 3x10 @ 80 - challenging still

sleep time!

Combat and HIIT on the bike before 10am today. Have pretty much done nothing but eat since.

Read an interesting article about squats and fixing it when your form is f***ed. Seems simple- essentially the point was that most things can be fixed if you think about your bum travelling towards your heels rather than out backwards (which is my current thought process). Tried a practice in the kitchen - my squat is quite different. Might even try it with weight tomorrow now seeing as it's leg day.

Also an interesting read about deadlifts and whether mid-back rounding is a) worth worrying about and b) nothing to do with the back and more to do with the hips. I know my hips are an issue. Need a plan to fix this. REALLY wanting to lift heavy DLs again. Might just do it anyway......

That's interesting Jo. I always thinking about pushing my bum out when doing squats so maybe I am doing them all wrong. i will try that and see if it helps.
I am always concerned with deadlifts that I will hurt my back so I am quite wary about upping my weights. I am currently lifting 75kg (about 165lbs) and I know I can do more but am afraid of hurting myself. My brain is definitely my worst enemy when it comes to progressing on any of my lifts.

Beeps-I'm a Bret C fan too! I was just watching his advice on changing the form of WHTs...his videos are really helpful, and his articles are so good too! I can't do DLs so I do the WHTs instead.
Glad you're back to work out so well! Kutgw!

Pmag-I've been thinking of you, sorry for the depression. Hope things continue to improve for you :).

Jo-I've had those days! Just a little break from everyone needed me...I'd miss it beyond a few hours, but would be lovely. The gym is my escape too, unless they go with me. ;) thanks for the squat info. Working on that form. Goblets help me, and bench/box squats.

Dou-good to see you! Hope you're getting some good lifts in.

DNA-we did a vow renewal in Maui for our 15th. Loved it!!

Dawn-good job adding in the run. Hope you love dress shopping! Good lifts!

I'm doing well, got my lifting in yesterday and the day before . Added weight or reps and managed the crowd! Planning to run today. I'm dropping cals for a few weeks to hopefully shed some fat, so I won't panic if my lifts don't improve. Not gonna stay lowered forever, 6 weeks probably. I need to make some sacrifices in the kitchen to get this weight to budge.

I am so totally trying those push-ups! They look painfully fun lol

Struggling to get going this morning, but I have coffee on board and I will make it. I worked an extra hour yesterday afternoon, so at least I'm a little bit ahead today.

Jo will appreciate this... husband texts me on his way to work... Magpie season has started early :confounded:
Stupid birds.

Spring in Australia. Where you don't carry an umbrella in case of showers, but because the birds want to kill you...

Good workout Julie - love good gym days.

Dou - have your DLs ever hurt in the past?

dna - hahahaha, poor bloke. I thought the same today though as I saw a crazed magpie attacking its reflection in the mirror of a parked car :D They are bloody weird creatures.

I tried the new way of thinking with squats - was good with depth at lower weight but as soon as I get to around bodyweight I start to tip forwards - can't stay upright enough. Annoying. Upped on leg press today but the whole workout was a bit crappy - bad night sleep is to blame I think. My old gym is having a squat seminar next week - not sure if I can make it but maybe it will help.

Squats are my achilles heel....which is exactly why I have escaped to WHT!! Too many things "go wrong" in my squats and I DO have hip-problems....

Anyway, I am trying to decide whether to go lift (4th day in a row) or go for a long walk....it is smokey out, so lungs won't like the walk, but my body is tired and I think a rest day (from lifting) is probably good.

Decisions. Decisions.

Jo-I'm so with you...I lean too far forward too. Goblet squats are helping, but I can't go nearly as heavy...I guess I need to take the time to retrain my form. It's frustrating, I get it! Hang in there, we all have bad days, but there are good days too :).

DNA- we don't have magpies, but there have been way more bird suicides lately...they just randomly fly in front of our cars. Very odd! And my cat brings us a bird every now and then to show us he loves us. I'm not big on birds!

I got my 4 lifts, 1 run goal met this week. Hah! Even in an over crowded gym where I had to wait for several different machines and did my DB bench press and DB flyes in the middle of the floor on a randomly misplaced bench! I'm glad I got it done, and hope it becomes a new routine, not a fluke I managed it 2 weeks in a row. Hoping it'll become commonplace to hit it 5 days straight. :) I feel good! I dropped cals a few days ago and am doing well with that. Would dearly love to be down 10 lbs of fat in a few months...jeans weather should be here by
November. I'd like mine to be looser than they are now!

I got my 4 lifts, 1 run goal met this week. Hah!

BOOM!

I lifted four times this week, too (BOOM!)...and walked four times. Plus, I have cardio Saturday morning, too. ZOOM!

I could do three of those push-ups this morning. 4 sets. I followed them directly with DB bench press....and was pretty bagged by the 4th set of those.

I went up in weights on my bi's/tri's and my DL. I went up in weights on my reverse DB lunges, too.

None of this is to celebrate, as the weights are still lower than my June #'s (pre-eye-injury)....but, I only have one week of lifting before off for (another post-surgery) break, so I am trying really, really HARD.

Ooh I like the weekly summary going on.... well done beeps and Julie. By Sunday it will be 3 x lift, 1 x HIITand 2-3 x combat for me. Hopefully only 2 x combat as I really should give my body another day off. Next week's schedule is a little crazy and will have to workout mon/tues/wed/thurs as my day off will need to be Friday. If tomorrow isn't a day off that'll be 10 days in a row LOL. Annoying trying to juggle shifts and 2 gyms lol. Combat at the new gym today. Usually I do combat at my old gym on a Sunday.... and I'll miss it if I don't go. Will see what happens in the morning.

Great Julie and Beeps.

I'm a bit behind as the last two days were quite busy. Lifted before work yesterday, rushed to finish decorating cake and such, worked close shift, then finished a couple of things before bed. Today, I got up at 5:30 am, was at the park before 6:30 for long jog. Got coffee, then went to work for a short shift after which I got dressed up and walked around a mall for a little bit just to get out and do something. Now I'm going to rest my poor feet (pesky girl shoes) and order a pizza. Plus I have chocolate cake. Later maybe I should post somewhere a picture from last year and one from today since it has been a year and I've lost almost 70.

Thursday's Lifting: Workout B

low bar 3x5 @ - not bad at that weight

OHP 1x4 and 2x5 @ 70 - Struggled the first set, had a guy waiting for me to finish using the squat rack, but the other sets weren't bad.

deadlift 1x5 @ 195 - barely. I almost didn't get the last rep. Was lucky the guys using the spot let me in as they were going to spend an hour doing I'm not sure what, maybe snatch or power clean, I didn't wait around to see. Since I just had the small amount of reps to do, they let me.

Lat pull down 3x12 @ 70 - okay but challenging by the end.

Morning Jog = 4.5 miles. My longest jog so far and it wasn't too bad. I might consider myself a "runner" at this point, since I got up at an unsightly hour just to get the jog in before working the shift I took for a coworker. So sleepy now.

Weekly summary?

This week I lifted on Monday, but my afternoon run was cancelled due to sick kids (not mine).

Tuesday I got bored and did a 30-ish minute light cardio circuit.

Wednesday I lifted AND walked around the stupid shopping centre getting the boy's arm cast off.

Thursday I fiddled with the cardio circuit to the point I think I've found something that I like and might put into regular rotation.

Friday I lifted, ran to the train station, walked around the city, ran back from the train station AND took two kids grocery shopping after school... I should get a medal for that

Today (Saturday) I have sat on my backside at footy, and wrangled two children (one very cranky) around yet another shopping centre that we went to on a whim of the husband. And now I need more freaking coffee, but it's almost 2pm and if I have too much caffeine I won't sleep tonight.

Tomorrow (Sunday), is a 3 hour teaching session at church in the morning and I have to clean my house at some stage over this afternoon and tomorrow.

And then it will be Monday again :bawling:
