Thanks for trying, manic....now I am concerned as to what "family sickness" means for samntha. :(

Got my lifting in. Still working on calorie deficit....it isn't really showing on the scale, even though i FEEL as if I have been eating A LOT LESS. Gaaahhhh.....I should go back to weighing my food. I just am not in that head space right now.

I haven't checked in here in ages but I had to pop in to celebrate because no body else would understand - today I deadlifted 85kg!!! (that's 187 lbs). That is 10kg more that my previous best so I was thrilled! I found myself rechecking the weights repeatedly to make sure I had added it up correctly.
I will come back later to read back and see how everyone else is doing, just wanted to boast while still feeling elated!!

    Nice work DouMC.

Long day since closing cashier called in. We had new person come in for a few hours but then it was just me and the store manager for the last 1.5 hours. Went to the gym afterwards and things went pretty well. Trying to type it all now but cat is on my lap and being needy so this took me a little while to get all down.

    28 - lower hyper

front squat 3x8 @ 80 and 1x8 @ 95 - I did an extra set using a different grip, the crossed arms one because the lift is limited more by my wrists than my legs. Might keep doing it this way as it still works some on the wrist but also gives a little challenge to the legs at the end.
    bar lunge 3x8 @ 70 - eh, lunges
    good morning 3x10 @ 70 - challenging enough
    leg extension 4x8 @ 65 - nothing special
    leg curl 3x8 @ 70 - usual
    seated calves 4x10 @ 95 - meh, calves

    Now for writing.

Great stuff in here, Doumc and jo_m....nicely done! BOOM!

Interesting front squat set-up, Dawn! Glad you can modify it to work for you.

I am meeting a longlost friend, sometime the week of Dec 11-13.....so, that's a great goal date for me staying "five lbs down".

    A great kick-pff to my 20-week plan!

No lifting today....three days in a row and my body is craving rest. So, will work on keeping my calories totally in check today.

    BOOM!

Thanks guys. I was delighted with myself yesterday and really needed to tell someone. And weirdly I wasn't sore today, I thought I would be in bits.
Dawn, I do my front squats like that as well, I just cannot get my arms into the other position to do them properly. And also, congratulations on the progress, your pictures look amazing!

Nicely done DouMc!! And you too Dawn, such consistency!

I lifted this morning. Back today, so did single arm bb rows, inverted pull downs, rack pulls, and DB pullovers. I did 165x1 on the rack pulls, then 155 x1 then 3 sets of 135x6, not my best by any means but not too shabby for a comeback.

Mary and Beeps, I've been in touch with Sam, she's ok. The family member is improving. She has a bunch of stuff on her plate right now but she'll be back

Beeps, I'm trying to have 10 off by Christmas. That's my goal. There I said it outloud.

That's funny the talk about the front squat - I was just discussing this the other day now that I've started them again. I do not like the cross arms version - the bar feels wobbly! My wrists can cope currently with the weight and since reading a few more articles on them I have managed to adjust the position so the bar rests on my delts rather than my arms taking the weight. Not sure how that'll go as the weight increases but we'll see. You do need wrist flexibility to do them this way. Shame my hips aren't so flexible!!

    Hi All
Just jumping in here to say @DawnEmbers you look amazing.
I have been reading along for awhile. I am still undecided about a program and just doing a dogs breakfast of stuff at the gym. I was so weak when I started, doing anything with weights caused my muscles to shake. I felt like I needed to spend a month or so just going through the motions of the different strength moves.

Beeps-Hope you find a good job soon! I'm sure it's frustrating, glad your lifting is going well though :).
Manic-Hope the MRI goes well and your dr can help you.
Dna-nice to see you! Glad you're messing about online. Enjoy tomorrow! Sounds lovely!
    Jo-2? Ouch! Go girl!
Sue-good job..that soreness is good stuff!

I'm doing well, lifted today. Still with SL. Going well, making progress, feels good. Did my cardio tues and Thursday, so week 2 of back to 5 workouts complete! :D

Met a nice lady at the gym this morning. She was squatting 215 and doing it well. We chatted and I todd her she was #goals for me. Told her I was working on my forms and she said my form looked good on my squats and DLs. :) that encouraged me. I'll take it! She's been lifting a long time, and inspired me. :)

Happy Friday! Weekend, payday, workouts done...all good stuff!!

    Happy Friday everyone!

I lifted today....it was a slug. But, I did 175 lbs weighted hip thrusts....would really like to close out 2015 at 200 lbs.

    :)

No, I still can't do a pull-up, but I am getting REALLY good at WHT and even my DL's are coming along (....it'll be a few years before I hit 200 lbs with that puppy!)

    BOOM!

MRI RESULTS: labrum tear. Will see dr who specializes in tears on Dec 16 if not sooner. I requested to be on a call list. The Dr I saw specializes in hip replacements. Thankfully I don't need that.

@manic4titans that just stinks but better now than in summer. @Beeps2011 I'm impressed! I'll be happy to see #100 hip thrusts!
    @DawnEmbers your consistency is inspiring!

Yesterday I didn't get to the gym - I actually left early to get to work early and was foiled every step of the way - it was the commute from hell! And I worked until 9:30 - trial exchanges with defendants and of course I had to wait for co-counsel to finish up their piece. I found 3 BIG errors so I'm the hero right now  I will do stuff here today and shop for T'day. Mike and I travel to Ohio on Wednesday. My daughter-in-law and I are preparing and pre-cooking much of the meal to take to my mother-in-law's home for our family gathering next Saturday.

I know, not all here are American or celebrate Thanksgiving but I would love to hear plans to keep eating well over the holiday.

Got my leg day in - no max lifts today but steady work. Trying to increase reps with DLs.... meh. Single leg press - increased weight. No change with single leg DLs. Upped weight with calf raises. Came home to eat a protein bar after yesterday's macro fail.

Looked in my diary - night shift this week and working 6 out of 7 days next week - boooooo..... working out will be challenging. Defo not going to get in 8 sessions like I did last week!

I had a really random Nsv last night. Caught myself looking at my forearm and thinking it looked mighty fine....haha! If only I was thinking the same about my biceps or triceps...but I'll take the forearm progress gratefully!! Now, perhaps I should check to see if my toes are looking any sexier as a result of all this lifting....

haha, that made me laugh. Probably because I experience it too, I randomly find myself admiring really off parts of my body, I just wish my belly and upper arms could get there!
I had a busy weekend but no lifting. Just spending time with my family and I got a good run in.
Everyone is doing great lifting. Its so inspiring coming in here!

Lol! Me too! Just noticing my forearms were stronger looking too! Yay! Now, belly and thighs please?!

Weighted hip thrusts (WHTs) are awesome!! Great job beeps! I haven't been pushing the weights on them lately, I just squeeze a set in after my DLs once or twice a week. I was doing Bret contreras' gluteal goddess program for a while. Good stuff!

Sue-I plan to eat clean until Thursday, try to keep my indulging to an hour window on Thursday, and back to clean eating on Friday. It's a fun hid any, and part of enjoying life, for me, is enjoying a good thanksgiving dinner! :)

I've begun reverse dieting this weekend. Trying to slowly (ha!) up my calories. I've been in a deficit for a long, long, time and I'm not losing :(, and it's not helping my lifts. So I'm going to try to up my calories, and protein, while keeping my carbs low and clean and see how that goes. Working out 5 days a week, 3 days SL, 2 cardio is going well. Going to take December to boost metabolism (I'll be eating holiday foods anyway, part of the time) and see how it goes. Hoping to maintain and get stronger. :)

    Take care everyone!

@EvgeniZyntx mmm food. I mean hi.

Did my workouts this weekend but it was late and after working long shifts, ended up with over 20 hours at work over the two days instead of the scheduled 16. It's going to be a rough holiday season as I work retail and we don't have enough people so any call-in leaves us running ragged. We're getting by but the next week is going to be a challenge and I'll be working a fair amount of it all. We are open all day Thanksgiving (Christmas too) and my family is in different states so I won't have family food but whatever we bring in to work to share.

@suelegal - so to answer the holiday question, I don't have a big event or lots of food in house but I also tend to let little holidays like this and Christmas to be untracked. I am making pecan pies (one for a coworker who gave me money just so she could have her own). Roommates did get turkeys so may have some of that at home. I also am just buying veggies more this week. I had some food made in crockpot to help as I'm working a ton. But general strategy for me around this time is pretty healthy during week if I can keep from not eating too many candies (I still have a candy or two a day, halloween stuff still around so they are small sized) and on the actual days, I relax and don't worry about it. But I don't get to sit around either, I'm working 8-10 hour shifts and somehow this year we get to work on freight along with holiday and black friday fun... I'll sleep on Monday I think. lol

Okay. Despite the crazy work weekend, I did work out at the gym. I even jogged Saturday night but I only did 20 minutes instead of 40 but I'm going to do a long jog tomorrow since I don't have work. I also was at the gym later than normal both times because we had so much to do and manager struggled with the numbers, plus gave her a ride home last night, so I was at the gym past midnight. Good news is that I'm almost back to my before vacation weight on the scale and lifts are still up though I really need .5 plates/things for upper body lifts as I'm so close to my 1RM for my working sets.

    Saturday, 29 - upper power

    bench 3x4 @ 100 - heavy but manageable, we'll see how 105 goes
db incline bench 3x10 @ 30 - back to the 30, might try 35 next time
bent row 3x4 @ 100 - fixed weight, heavy but did okay
lat pull 3x8 @ 80 - also heavy but doing better this time around
OHP 3x3 @ 80 - barely, tad shakey and will stay at this weight a bit
bar curl 3x8 @ I dunno, ez curl plus 10 - I thought it was maybe 15 for the bar but it was heavy and I managed 40 with the straight bar, so I don't know anymore on that weight, I don't like the ez curl bar for curls at all.
    skull crushers 3x10 @ ez curl + 10 - tough but managed

5 minute warm up, 20 minute jog, 5 minute cool down on treadmill.

    Sunday, 30 - lower power

squat 3x3 @ 165 - heavy but got through, will do just small increases now, just did the 10 cause de-load and such but felt easy last time.
    deadlift 3x3 @ 195 - not too bad, plus 2x5 @ 145 sumo
    leg press 3x8 @ 220 - did fine
    leg curl 3x8 @ 70 - still a challenge
standing calf 3x10 @ 75 - feel a tad short for it but eh, calves

Now to work on my online stuffs and write lots of words.

Good to see everyone's still in the game, regardless of how busy life is getting! Certainly helps me maintain my goal for the month of "no excuses"....these threads are keeping me accountable, and I feel guilty if I even *think* of missing a session!

Aim for this week is to try and crack the nutrition thing - I'm now getting used to eating the increased calories that I need, rather than to continue with the lifelong aim (and failure) of sticking to a max of 1200 calories a day in an attempt to lose fat. But my challenge is to get the balance right between carbs/fat/protein. I thought I more or less knew what I was doing (and eating) and yet I have been way off most of the time.

So, the last couple of days I've really been taking notice of it. I don't want to get obsessive (as a previous eating disorder sufferer, I know that danger is never far away), and I do want to enjoy my food (now that I have discovered that it is there to be properly enjoyed!) but I do want to have a fit and healthy bod...pretty essential if I'm ever going to lift the kind of weights that I vaguely dream of! So....for the next few days at least I will be tweaking my menu.

On another note - am in the gym after work this evening. Going with hubby, who I've not been able to work out with for about 3 weeks or so.....boy is he going to notice a difference in my ability (well, he had better do, or else!!!).

No jogging so far this week, I keep staying in bed instead. I did, however, get a warm shirt to wear under my under armor jacket for when I run. I went looking for shoes but sports authority doesn't have much and they are kinda pricey. I got a shirt and some red leggings (that have pockets, yay) from Maurices. Did lift weights at least. Now I'm having coffee at a starbucks and going to write until I go pick up coworker from airport.

    31 - upper hypertrophy

incline bench 3x8 @ 70 - not too difficult, not sure why i even failed back then. Might try 75 next time.
    db fly 4x8 @ 15 - also did 3x8 wrist curls with 15
    seat row 3x8 @ 80 - challenging but managed
one db row 1x8 3x10 @ 25 - easy enough, increase next time
    lat raise 3x8 @ 12.5 - still a challenge, tough move
    cable tricep extension 3x8 @ 70 - a bit of a challenge
    cable bicep curls 3x10 @ 50 - easy enough

Dawn-I didn't think of running in the cold...a new challenge! :)
Kim-did Dh notice? Have you heard of reverse dieting? It's like what you're discussing, only gradually adding a few hundred calories daily for a week, then slowly adding a little more, etc, until you're up where you're supposed to maintain and doing so without gaining. I'm attempting a loose version of this this week (thanksgiving will likely not be controlled, most likely up around maintenance cals or more) and through the end of December. Shooting to maintain while lifting and adding in some cardio.

That said, I got in a walk with some sprints today. Outside and it was lovely! 78 degrees! This is why I suffer though the agonizing summers...need to remember this!

Back to LC until Thursday. Not necessarily for weight loss, but for control and getting enough protein in with ease. I'm still not up where I'm supposed to be most days (1600 this week) but getting a bit closer. Scale is up a bit from where I thought I'd maintain, but I had a very indulgent week and weekend, so it's to be expected. Jeans are getting tight though, so gotta be careful with this reverse dieting.

Question for you lifting ladies?- do you lift for the aesthetic changes-leaner, tighter more shapely, or for pure strengths gains, or for health and fitness...and if you have one main goal, do you change your routine accordingly?

I'd like to improve my appearance and think lifting heavy will accomplish that. I have already seen some of that. The other benefits are wonderful too-stronger, healthier, can eat more ;)...but ideally I'd like to lean out and be solid not squishy. I've read some testimonials on lifting ladies who just bit the bullet and ate to get stronger, still controlled but high protein and higher calories than I have all year (consistent deficit), not caring about the acale and tight clothes. and then, eventually, the physical changes followed. What are your thoughts?

I'm just musing. Having decided to just try and maintain through December is good, but in looking back, despite all my efforts this past year, I'm 10 lbs heavier than last year. Yes, I'm stronger, but with my back and neck issues and deloading, not that much stronger. :( my back is better and my form is improving, but I am bigger all around. I'm sure some of that is muscle (6 lbs according to the calipers I used) but I still feel chubby :(. Trying to reconcile what I've learned academically, and what my body is actually doing.

On that note, hope you're all doing well!!
