Good evening. Got a few things accomplished today between cardio classes. One load of laundry completed (still more to do), baked a few sweet potatoes, made air fried tofu for supper, soaked some beans which I will cook tomorrow. It was warmer here today and we had some sunshine. I guess that’s it for the week.
Sandy, I hope you don’t get a bug. Another lady I know ended up at the hospital this morning as she was very ill overnight. She has pneumonia and is now on drugs to try to defeat it.
Jackie, you have been quite busy. Good job getting the new door installed. I hope it is working properly. You are certainly taking wonderful care of both Betty and George. They are so lucky to live with you. Best wishes on your trip to David’s house. I hope everyone else on the road drives safely.
Hello out there Anne, Barbie, Diane, Jeri, Joy and the rest of our Sneakers. Wishing everyone a happy holiday season. Be safe everyone.

Happy Christmas Eve! We are postponing our Christmas until Sunday as Lisa tested positive for Covid yesterday. The kids weren't tested but she is sure they have it as well. I tested yesterday and today and both were negative. Cheryl asked me to go to her sister's with her and Marisa but I declined. I don't feel 100% so I would rather stay home. I may go to Mass at 5 with them but will wear a mask to be safe if I do. Otherwise I will go in the morning before our dinner together. I feel bad for the kids but told Lisa to let them open their gifts from me and I will watch with a facetime call. Her parents are going to a wedding on New Years Eve in Virginia so they are trying to be cautious as well. Who knows where it was picked up, could have been the hospital when Laurie was there all night or Lisa is a preschool special ed teacher and those kids are always sneezing and coughing without covering their mouths. We will make the best out of a bad situation like we always do.
It was wonderful hearing from Anne. Sorry she has been through so much this last year and hope 2025 will be much better not only for her but for all of us.
Have a great Christmas Eve.
Sandy
One Day at a Time0 -
It is nearly midnight so I must get to bed before Santa drops down my chimney! I had another busy day with a visit to wish Sheila a merry Christmas then drive over to David to deliver his wild bird food. I stayed a while there because I was concerned he has been doing too much so is looking as bad as he did before his operation. Also, he has forgotten the advice regarding removing the dressing on his hip and back now the staples have been removed, so I did my best to persuade him take it off this evening and leave off to let the air get to the scar. He is a terrible worrier so I have to choose my words carefully! I managed to get to the supermarket before it closed early so I’m stocked up with enough chicken for Betty, and finally stopped for a snack about 4 pm.
Oh no Sandy, that’s bad timing for a Covid outbreak in the family and I think you are wise to stay home.
I’m off to bed so wish everyone a very happy Christmas.
Jackie 🎄🎅🏼☃️🥳0 -
Good evening. It has been an odd day. I want to wish everyone a very happy holiday, no matter what you celebrate. I ended up exchanging texts with a lady who wasn’t providing much detail but she is very nervous and stressed. What I could get from the bits is her husband had a problem with his heart. She rushed him to the nearest hospital and was apparently turned away. She went to the other hospital in the area and somehow or another they were doing some procedure when his heart stopped. Ultimately they got it going again and implanted a pacemaker. He ended up at home but she had to take him in for a follow up visit today and the facility was all disorganized and each person gave different advice. She plans to contact them in early January to try to get more information. That’s as much as I could put together, some of it may be wrong.
A bit later, a friend on Facebook (also a member of my church) posted a request for immediate prayers. Her husband’s parents were in a severe car accident in Texas. The car rolled 4 times and they were trapped inside and emergency personnel were working to get them free. Conditions unknown. They are so worried.
So lots of people who are not doing well right now.
Sandy, I am sorry to hear Covid has emerged in your family. So try to take care and great idea to wear a mask if you go out. I hope you stay well.
Jackie, you are a dear to try to help David so much. I hope you re getting a good night’s rest.
I am going to cuddle up in my freshly washed soft fleecy blanket.

We are alive and well and planning to order take out from our favourite Chinese restaurant at midday. We had brief visits from friends this week. The first brought fruitcake with no booze in it for Jake and the others brought a big tin of old fashioned sugary buttery cookies.

One Day a at Time0 -
Another Christmas almost over and I’m enjoying a mince pie with brandy cream and a sip of Baileys before bed. Although quiet, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my day. I walked George and Betty around the village at midday and met a few residents to exchange Christmas greetings with, then my job was to find a can of black spray paint to mark a recycling bag with the number of my property. An original one disappeared a few weeks ago so I ordered a replacement and was told it had been delivered but that too disappeared! Another was requested which arrived Monday and luckily I saw the refuse removal contractor so could take charge of it. They don’t have our address marked on them so I decided to do it myself because the disappearances were making me cross and it’s such a silly thing to be taking up negative energy! I’ve reset the automatic door opener on the hen house that was playing up and it worked tonight closing it, so hopefully I will find the door open when I check in the morning. I’ve been naughty snacking food on and off so when it came time to cook I didn’t have an appetite. Hopefully it won’t stop me sleeping! My brother Bernie messaged to tell me he had a bad case of diarrhoea and because he’s now permanently in a wheelchair, ended up in a mess, as did his shower room. It took him a couple of hours to clean up because his carer had visited earlier and won’t return until the weekend. A good job he’s so resilient.
Lin, I do hope your friends have received positive news about that car accident. Also the lady whose husband was turned away from a hospital.
Enjoy your Chinese take away Barbie and Sandy, take care.
The fog outside is thickening but I have no specific plans tomorrow so will see what I wake up to.
Enjoy the rest of Christmas Day.

Good evening. I have had a fairly pleasant day. Text messages with some friends. A friend called and we had an hour long discussion. The people in the car accident are in the hospital and at least they are alive. No details available. Unfortunately another friend had a bad day, her mom died this afternoon. On Christmas Day for goodness sakes. Her late husband had a medical emergency in the early hours of Christmas Day some years ago and while he did not pass way that day, the few days where they tried to save him were grim and he was mostly unconscious. She really didn’t need this loss on the same date.
Jackie, I am sorry to hear of your brother’s affliction. It is a terrible feeling. I get the runs all too often. I cannot figure out every time what I have eaten to upset my system. I hope your brother knows. Enjoy your day tomorrow. Officially Boxing Day right? Any crackers for you and/or the doggies?
Sandy, how are you feeling? Hope you are still well.
Barbie, some good food for you and Jake. Those cookies dropped off by a neighbor sound yummy. I hope you both enjoyed the day.
Hoping Anne, Diane, Jeri and other Sneakers had enjoyable days. I had one comment on a Facebook post from Judy Watson. It has been forever since she responded to anything. I see some story posts on Facebook and posts on Instagram from Shirley. Her paintings are becoming better and better. I also see Diane on both Facebook and Instagram. Nothing from Jeri.
Must move along. Thinking of you my friends.

Jake died last night at the hospital. He wasn't feeling well after our Chinese take out lunch and went to the recliner to watch TV. He was unresponsive when the TV show finished. I called 911 and they thought it was a stroke. After some tests, they found cancer in his brain and pneumonia. I spoke to the doctor on the phone, then went to the hospital for awhile. After more phone conversations with doctor and Jake's daughter, they took him off the ventilator and he died right away with three medical people by his side. Daughter will fly up this afternoon, rent a car, and drive over here.

Barbie, I'm very sorry to read that Jake passed away and send my sincere condolences. I hope his daughter has arrived safely so you can support each other. Take care.
Jackie0 -
You help by just being here to listen. Jake's daughter texted at 8PM last night that she was in a hotel near the Seattle airport and would let me know when she was headed my way. It's more than a two hour drive and includes a ferry.
I was on the phone more yesterday than I can ever remember. I started by sending texts to my closest friends and asking them to call when they could. Two were local and one came over for a short visit in the morning and the other came to walk with Annie and me at midday. Jake's son called Jake's brother in Ohio so I got a call from him and the info that he had called all the relatives in Ohio so I didn't have to do that. I don't know them except for Jake's granddaughter who texted me and promised to call later. Then I reached out to a few more friends and got calls back and calls from friends who had heard from others. I start with another group today. I got texts and emails from other people who had heard from others.
When I was walking with my friend yesterday I was reminded of the time about 15 years ago when my way of helping a friend whose husband had died was to call her every evening so she could tell me how her day had gone because she had been so accustomed to telling him about her daily adventures.
The hospital called at 8:30 to ask if we'd chosen a funeral home to take care of arrangements. I had been worrying that no one had called and had no idea who to contact. After the call, I realized that not everyone has already made that decision ahead of time and that it was right to wait a day before asking.
Bessie has lived a hard life including many foster situations so she is a trouper and accepts everything, but Annie seems to be sad and keeps looking for Jake. Fortunately she has been dependent on me for most of her care so it's not as bad as it could be if she had been more dependent on Jake. Time will tell.

Barbie, we will be here❤️❤️. I am glad you have many friends to reach out to. I have a friend who lost her husband a few years ago and she has a friend she talks to every afternoon, it is a help even now. And better than a text message.
Anyway, everything will be taken care of as time goes on. Take care of yourself. We care about you.

Barbie, if you want any of our numbers we can send them to you if you need someone to talk to. It sounds like you have a great support system with your friends and your program. I am sure you will figure out all the arrangements once Jake's daughter arrives. Just be sure to take care of yourself as well. The days ahead will be hard but you will get through them. We are always here if you need to talk.
One Day at a Time.

Barbie, you are certainly surrounded by the love of many, many supportive friends who will help and comfort you through this sad time. Hopefully this will ease the pain you must be feeling and give you strength to deal with required arrangements.
Tell Annie and Bessie everything about your days. It will relieve their stress to be involved.
Jackie 🥰1 -
Hello,
We finally have a bit of sunshine today. Unexpected but wonderful. I won’t even think about the forecast at this point.
Barbie, have you been able to get some arrangements organized? Hoping you are doing your regular dog walking. Keep the doggies happy. Anyway, thinking of you. ❤️❤️
Sandy, I watched some movies and ran across Conclave. Did you enjoy it? I found it unsettling. Everything everywhere can be manipulated. Sad. I watched a fun movie! Paddington 2. Also, a very old movie of Adam Sandler, Eight Crazy Nights. It was not what I expected. I have forgotten what your weekend plans are. Hope you are well and having a good time.
Jackie, is your weather good? Angela posted a lot of photos of beautiful light displays and decorations in London. She gets around to many lovely spots!
I have been doing laundry, doing some various cardio classes, and starting to work on January birthday cards. Getting a late start. Some need to be mailed Monday!!
Wishing everyone healthy days.

Hello! We continue to endure misty, murky cool weather so no sign of the sun. When I’ve let George and Betty out before bedtime I see bright stars and a relatively new moon but by the time I get up the gloom has descended! Today I had to wait in for a delivery of new Winter boots and they arrived about 11am but our dog walk was short, only to the next village, and when we got home I had to stand them both in the baby bath to wash mud and grit off tummies and feet. The hen house automatic door opener continues to stay shut in the morning which means resetting it with lots of cross muttering! At least it does close at night. After that was done for the 3rd day in a row, I managed some housework and this afternoon enjoyed a long telephone catch up with an old school chum and we’ve said we will do so more often, starting in February.
Tomorrow was forecast to be sunny so I was planning an overnight laundry wash to hang outside but my weather app is now telling me we are in for more mist and fog so I’ll just have to continue stepping round washing draped on an airer in my dining room and taking my daily Vitamin D. I will need to buy a few groceries but no other plans.
Love the green teapot Lin!
Take care everyone.

Good Saturday Evening! I was picked up this morning to be picked up to go to my cousin's memorial mass and then to cemetery where her ashes will be put with her husbands ashes in the same grave which is near her mother and dad. Then we went back for lunch and reminiscing. I got home just in time to go to 5 o'clock mass at my own Church for my regular service eve mass for Sunday. I want to just chill tomorrow and hopefully have a pajama day. I got up at 6:30 although I woke at 4 and had a hard time going back to sleep. I will miss my cousin but know she is at peace with her husband and son.
I think we are celebrating Christmas and New Year's Eve Tuesday. Monday I am taking Lisa's parents to the airport at 4.
Going to go watch some TV and rest. Talk in the morning.
Barbie, I hope you are doing okay.
Sandy

Jake and I agreed years ago that neither of us wanted any kind of service, funeral, memorial, celebration of life or anything so there are no "arrangements" to deal with. Jake said that if anyone wanted to pay any tribute to him they could remember to "Be kind--no exceptions". His remains will be cremated and the ashes shared among us with my portion being mixed with the ashes of Shilo, the Golden Retriever and scattered wherever I want.

Happy Sunday! I plan on staying in and having a pajama day today and do my errands tomorrow. We will celebrate Christmas and New Year's Tuesday. I bought the kids a couple of extra gifts because their original Christmas was ruined. We will go to Mass together and have dinner, open the presents and then bring in the New Year early with the kids countdown on TV.
We will have our family zoom call today as John and Laurie had another Christmas celebration yesterday.
Then I think I will just binge watch some movies.
Barbie, you and Jake made your wishes known to each other and his Be Kind-no exceptions is a great tribute to him. How is his daughter doing?
Jackie, that hen house opener just doesn't seem to be cooperating like it should, how frustrating. I remember those days of wiping mud off of paws. Ewok and Obi are constantly coming in with muddy paws and are hard to catch to clean them.
Lin, I did and did not like Conclave. I believe that is the true system of picking a new Pope but at times I was confused. The twist ending threw me but all in all it wasn't one of my favorites. I like Red One much better and Cheryl didn't like it at all when I texted her if she watched it. Our tastes are very different. Mine are better. lol
Have a good day my friends. Life is precious enjoy every day.

Another quiet day but we did manage to walk in some sunshine, then I drove into town for a few groceries. There don't seem to be many people about but perhaps they are being sensible and keeping off the roads. The electric hand saw I've been using to cut up the wood for kindling that Linda gave me, is becoming erratic so I splashed out and purchased a new one from Amazon that should arrive by Thursday. I added some garden wire to help repair a few small holes that appeared in the chicken run netting because when I walked down to check if the hen house door opened, a squirrel was inside eating their food. Brady was with me and showed some interest when it ran out and down the garden but I think I must be feeding him too well because he decided not to chase it and watched it escape!
I was delighted to see the hens out of their house when I first got there so finally, the door is working but I'll keep checking just in case!
Enjoy the rest of Sunday and keep warm and safe.

Good evening. A day of exercise classes, laundry, watching online church, working on birthday cards and watching some movies.
Tired!
Jackie, glad the door on the hen house seems to be working now. Quiet days are nice.
Sandy, did you find any movies that you liked? I was watching older movies again.
On the plus side, the birthday cards that need to be mailed tomorrow are finished!
Barbie, I hope all is going smoothly for you and that you are talking to people whenever you need to talk. Is Jake’s daughter there? Thinking of you.
Be safe everyone.

🌻Jake's daughter got here Friday morning after a long flight, a night in a hotel by the airport, and a two drive in nice rental car. She is holding up well aided by keeping busy and a strong spiritual program. She i a family counselor so she has a lit of knowledge to draw on to help her. I have remember that her experience is different from mine and losing a parent is not the same as losing a spouse.
Jake's son and his long-time partner arrived Saturday morning after long drive in cold, icy weather and a night in a local motel.
They have been helpful doing chores (cleaning the house, splitting firewood, getting things down from high shelves, and helping me decide what to do with things)
🌻Jake and I had made a list of friends to call so I have been on the phone a lot. I've thought of people who weren't on the list and have gotten calls and texts from people who heard from others
💤Sleep has evaded me so I've done a lot of reading on the Kindle app on my phone with the light off while the dogs sleep.

Happy Monday! I have lots of errands to run today before taking Lisa's parents to the airport this afternoon. Looking forward to spending the day with the kids and their parents tomorrow. We are a week late in celebrating Christmas but we will make it up with Church, dinner, more gifts and fun.
I just feel so bad for the kiddos and hope they have a good time tomorrow.
Barbie, your support system sounds wonderful and although these are terrible times, you will get through them one day at a time. Jake's daughter sounds well adjusted and although losing a parent in hard with her program she will have help. What would we do without our programs? Please try and get some rest if you can.
Lin, I am rewatching the first season of the Squid Games as the second season is finally here. I have forgotten most of it and want to refresh my memory.
Jackie, glad to hear the door of the hen house is working. I had to laugh at Brady not chasing the squirrel, he is well contented. lol
I have to get moving to get things done. Have a good day.

Good evening. I took the birthday cards to the post office early this morning and nearly was hit by a car that was speeding and ran a stop sign. Luckily I was going slow and was able to stop. Thank goodness.
I joined in some zoom classes and did some chores around the house. I did not sleep well overnight and was dragging this afternoon and didn’t feel well. Hoping tomorrow will be a peppier day.
Sandy, sounds like you have several busy days coming up. Hope you finished your errands. How is your weather? We have rain right now but it will changeover to snow with perhaps 3 inches expected. Of course, some freezing will accompany the temperature drop.
Jackie, we’re you able to do some laundry or did the weather continue to stop you?
Barbie, great that you are getting help with practical things around the house. ❤️❤️ I hope you are able to get some rest.
Well, I need to get my evening chores taken care of before my eyes close.
Best wishes to everyone.
