Daily Check In: Are You On Track Today?

Our son stopped by- on his own- but with news that he has a girlfriend. I wasn't allowed any more information at this time! No name, nothing. He did say that I would meet her soon. I am guessing it was difficult for him to tell us, so just saying that he had one was the first step.
Getting meds for pain relief is so good Paula. I don't know much about Prednisone, but I am thankful it's working.
We ended up missing the Good Friday service. We had a couple of people stop in and I thought we could watch a replay of the service, but it wasn't uploaded. We will go to church this evening, we are also on to serve coffee after the service. It could be busier since more people tend to go to church on Easter. I am a bit worried about keeping up, I am not super good at making the specialty drinks.

Learning more about your DS's girlfriend is something to look forward to! Keep us posted. Hope all goerw well for him. It's tough for young folks to be alone these days I think. Helping with the coffee social at church is very noble in my opinion. I know at my current church is can be a stressful task.
I am pleased with all I accomplished today, probably mostly thanks to the Prednisone. I made 2 of the egg cheeses and just brought them in from hanging on the ramp where they solidify. They look beautiful. I also cooked a few kielbasa rings, hard boiled some eggs, and did a few other little preps for the Feast of the Resurrection. We have the pascha bread from my old church too. We abstained from meat and dairy through the Great Lent so it will be a feast to enjoy it tonight after our resurrection service which starts at 11:30 pm and will conclude about 2:30 am….and then we eat! We won't overdue it because of the time, but this is our custom to eat/break the fast after this service. We will have another service at 11:00 am too. Both are online of course, but when I was able we attended both of these services in person at our own local church. Sunday evening our dear neighbors Jane and Blaine will come to visit. I am just planning to serve dessert.
In the Joy of the Feast of our Lord's Resurrection.
Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!

My message from yesterday didn't post! Crazy! If I saved it as a draft by accident I don't know where it ended up! I can't remember it well enough, but it was long!
We were at church last night and it was a full house! We served coffee and I am very thankful that we had extra help as we served many more people than we typically do. My feet are still sore this morning.
We may spend time with our oldest today, not 100% sure yet. But it's sunny outside and all we need is no wind. It has been terribly windy for a whole week.0 -
Always wonderful to see a full church for such beautiful days like Easter. Hope your Easter plans were fulfilling for you Shari, whatever you ended up doing. Sun and no wind sounds like the best combination.
My day went well. Our online services were beyond moving, uplifting, and enriching. Nothing compares to the celebration of the Lord's Resurrection in my opinion. We enjoyed our food as well. I didn't overindulge at all but also didn't log anything today. I napped briefly in the afternoon but really wasn't all that tired despite the long and unusual hours we kept. Our neighbors changed their visit to tomorrow as Blaine was feeling pretty tired by the time they were to come here. That is fine with me.

We had a restful Easter Sunday. I didn't track my meals, but will get back to doing that today. I was feeling quite tired so it was nice to have a day at home. DH went to visit our neighbour Tony who is in the hospital. He has pneumonia. He is on the mend and should be back home in a couple of more days.
I don't have today off, so it's back to work!0 -
Hoping Tony continues to improve. Pneumonia can be very nasty with the older folks especially.
We had a nice early evening visit with our neighbors. We are never at a loss for things to talk about. And it's always so good to catch up with them and with things going on in the neighborhood.
I read today online that WW is filing for bankruptcy! I have noticed changes (as I mentioned recently) in their customer service, but I certainly didn't expect this news. Their website doesn't address this at all. I read about the bankruptcy in a news article. I wonder if the company will just fold completely. So sad.

Wow! I hadn't heard that Paula. It is very difficult to believe, but I quickly read a news article about it. The article said that diet fads and now the drugs for weight loss have impacted them, even after re-branding in recent years. Very sad as I believe that we need to nourish our bodies and lose weight slowly over time. The community is also super helpful. We will have to see what ends up happening.
A dreary day here. It's trying to rain and I hope it isn't cool enough that we see snow.
DH will check on Tony today and see how he is doing. Might be one more day in hospital.0 -
Yes, the diet drugs were mentioned in the WW articles I read too. I have a friend who is diabetic and is on Ozempic as prescribed by her family doctor. My friend has lost quite a bit of weight on it and really wasn't all that overweight to begin with. She has much difficulty eating and eats very little these days. She has a very sensitive stomach and lots of related digestive issues. She looks good, but seldom feels good anymore. I know, too, that there are considerable other side effects long term from what I've read. I definitely prefer a healthy slow weight loss and realize that my choices are what lead to my successes and/or weight loss struggles. I'll stick with WW or something similar if they fold.
Our weather has been lovely today. We are expecting high temps in the 70s and low 80s for the next week or so. This is a welcome change. Tomorrow friends of ours are coming to visit (the husband who lost his job last May and his wife). He has remained retired, and it seems to me won't return to work soon, if at all, though both of them talk about how much he still misses his work. I think they aren't ready to move from this general area (they live an hour from here). The wife's mother just turned 90 and lives in an apartment and says she won't relocate with them if they move! I am looking forward to spending the day with them. We always have a great time when we are together.

I don't think that I would want to take drugs to lose weight and would worry about the long term side effects. Not eating can't be good, our bodies do need nourishment, not to mention our brain.
That sounds like a bit of a pickle for your friends Paula. If the husband wants to work but can't find work nearby and if he moves, then they won't be near the mother in law. I can see that moving at 90 would be difficult. I am sure you will enjoy your visit. We are still quite chilly and we just might get warmer temps by the weekend. I really hope so.
Last night I batched cook and was in the kitchen for two hours. I was so tired by the time I was done. I made myself some spaghetti bolognese for my lunches and I make a lot of meatballs for our neighbours. Tony will be in hospital another 4 days. My DH brought home an onion and ground beef from Walter. He wants to make sure there is food for Tony when he goes home. And Tony is worried about Walter eating. So the meatballs should help out. We also cooked up some beans they sent. I have no idea what kind they are, they look terrible and I couldn't bring myself to try one. Kind of grey/while and the size of a kidney bean. They were home canned so I am wondering if they grew them.0 -
Batch cooking is a great method! What you made sounds delicious Shari, and so nice to have a good amount of it to be able to share. I understand how tiring that can be however. You sue earned yourself a rest and a few days off from cooking! I am a bean lover so I would have likely ventured a try. Most beans are 0 points on WW so I have learned to appreciate them.
We had a very lovely day with our friends. The husband reminded me that he and I have been friends for 50 years this year (oh my!) and his DW & I have been friends even longer (she is younger than her DH and me, but she was one of my campers when I was a church camp counselor in the early 70s). We ordered delivery, and our friends brought a red velvet cake from an upscale local supermarket. My turkey sandwich was kind of dry and disappointing, and I think so was hers. The guys' food was better it seems. They were here over 6 hours (1 pm till after 7 pm). I was exhausted by that time, but when they are here it is like having family. They make themselves right at home & know where things are, they clean up, etc., and they just do all kinds of things naturally like they live here. Such beautiful friends.

You have many dear friends Paula! That is a testament to the kind of person that you are. I am so glad the visit went so well.
I just had a typical work day and expect another one today. The sun is currently shining and so far it isn't windy. I welcome that wholeheartedly. I should be able to stick to my meal plan and get to the gym today.0 -
Just a quick check in tonight. John and I had our eye doctor appointments this afternoon. I drove and Greg went with us to assist me and my wheelchair. It worked out quite well. I was able to get in and out of the van without even using the platform to help me reach the running board, probably because of the Prednisone relief! Another friend of ours babysat Buster and even took him for a 1/2 mile walk. By the evening I wasn't sure who was more exhausted, me or Buster! I am still not logging my food but plan to start soon since I expect my days to return to more normal as we approach the end of Bright week.

I didn't log my food yesterday, I just missed adding in dinner, so it wasn't a total wash. I will give it a better go starting Saturday. We are having some friends over tonight and ordering take out so it will be difficult to track that meal. I can guesstimate though.
This week seemed to go by so fast. I am hoping it's nice outside so I do some gardening. It seems like it will be a windy day again today.

I agree that this week went fast. Our spring weather the past few days has been beautiful. We had a light and much-needed rain tonight, and rain is expected most of Saturday, including some thunderstorms. It will be a good day to relax indoors. I did well with my food choices today. I focused on protein and low/zero point foods and was mostly satisfied. I had a grocery delivery today so I can continue to make healthy choices. I had a reasonable to do list for Friday and accomplished almost all of it. I will tackle the few left over to do items on Saturday and won't add on any more things to do till Monday.
Happy weekend!

Even though we had quite a bit of snow this winter, it is quite dry. It would be so nice to get some rain. Everything is dusty and dirty. A good rain would clean things up and get things green. You are fortunate to get some.
We ate out the last two nights so I need to get back to my meal plans today. I am really enjoying my home made meals so it won't be difficult to do!
We have a Guatemala team meeting this morning so I will be off to work shortly. I have an agenda all ready so things should go well. It is our first "just the team" meeting. Last month we had invited parents to join us.

Our rain under performed compared to what was predicted, but we still had quite a bit and some of it very heavy. It is still quite windy here however. I also enjoy my home cooked meals too. I like knowing exactly what is in them and that they typically low is salt.
I had a little run in with the "prez" today. We have a project coming up next Sunday, voted at our last meeting. She complained and ranted today about how much she has to do for it. I reminded her that both John and I spoke against doing this project when it came up at the meeting. She ignored what I said tonight. I suggested to her that John and I would give her money (our personal money, not treasury money) toward funding this project since we are physically unable to help with the project. No response from her at all. I will still give her some money, but wow, she is so frustrating. I am considering calling 2 other members to put them on alert about this because she has been condemning them to me too. (I won't tell them that; I'll just say she is upset again about having this project.) We all have our gifts and talents as well as our deficits. I am sure she will never recognize this. Thanks for letting me vent here.
I rested a lot today and really needed the extra sleep/naps. I think my busy week caught up with me more than I anticipated. I didn't eat a lot today and didn't log anything again. I feel so much better now. I know I needed the rest. And happy to report I was still able to accomplish a few minor "to do" list items too.

We had a nice sunny day and I was able to transplant some seedlings. I have them in the house overnight but will take them out to my greenhouse next week. This year I have a small garden as we are letting our large garden rest. We need to reduce the number of weeds in the area.
I am sorry to hear about your run in with the prez. Let's hope that God finds a way to help her recognize the ways that she brings disunity and makes being in relationship with her difficult. You and John are being very generous with your character and finances.I went to the gym yesterday and wasn't as strong as I have been in the past. I know I wasn't eating as well this past week and it sure does make a difference to how our muscles can perform. It is good motivation to make sure I eat well.

Shari, have you decided what you will plant in your small garden this year? Interesting to me that you notice a difference in your strength based on how well you eat. You are very much in tune with these things, and that is so good and healthy. I admire that!!
I made two turkey meatloaves today…very delicious and a favorite of John's. My energy was up today, and I wanted to make the most of that. These meatloaves are a favorite of mine too because we will get quite a few meals out of them. I love days when my cooking demands are minimal at times! So my week is looking easier already! I am behind in my reading again so will have to catch up tomorrow and Tuesday for our Tuesday classes.
DW, hope all is well. We haven't heard from you in a while!

My small garden will most likely be lettuce and a few carrots. I started the lettuce indoors and I think it will be very happy to be outside. I always plant marigolds next to the lettuce as they are supposed to keeps the bugs away.
I have never made Turkey meatloaf. I will need to tuck that idea in the back of my mind! I do love to cook, but I don't love to cook every day, so when I get a chance to batch cook, I do. It is such a nice gift to our future selves.
Yes DW, we hope all is well and miss you.

Home grown lettuce is a favorite of mine. I sometimes get some from a friend. And I think marigolds look pretty anywhere…..hope they do keep your bugs away!
I got back on track today with eating and tracking and feel good about that. My Pascha food is all gone, and my fridge has a good supply of wise choices. I did a bit of reading today for Tuesday's classes and will read a bit more tomorrow before class. I registered to attend an online seminar on plant based eating tomorrow afternoon. John will watch it with me I think. We won't go all plant based (at least not yet), but we are looking forward to learning more about this eating style. I hope nothing interrupts my participation in this but I suspect if I miss it they will make it available to watch again.

I also had a good eating day and didn't go astray. I didn't get all of my steps in though. I will try to make up for what I missed over the coming days and see if I can keep my weekly average up.
I don't think that I could eat plant based Paula. I would if it were up to me to do the butchering though. I can barely kill a spider. The only animal that I have taken an active role in exterminating are mice.
Not sure what is on the agenda for today other than work. Hope everyone has a great day.

Hello! It sounds like you have both been so busy and doing well!! I've been falling asleep in the chair or at the keyboard every evening since Easter. DD ended up going to church with me on Easter. I don't think she'd been since before her husband passed. The day before Easter, she said that she would go if her dad went. He declined and I told her that she was off the hook. Easter morning, I got ready and was trying to leave a little early for church but when I got in the car, I thought I didn't have my cell phone so ran back in the house and quickly looked in all the usual places but to no avail. I went back to the car and headed toward church going a tad faster than I should have been. When I passed her street, I saw that her car wasn't there. Just then my phone rang(in my purse the entire time). It was DD and she asked if I was the car behind her. (Apparently I was!) She said that she looked good-almost good enough to go to church and I said why don't you go with me? She ended up joining me for church! God works in such mysterious ways!! If I hadn't run back in the house, I wouldn't have been on the road behind her!
Other than that, I've been working, not doing well with my eating, not yet getting to the gym, and forgetting to take my vitamins for energy. I was the liturgist at church last Sunday and that went well. This week I am trying to do better with my food and vitamins. I need a specific goal like I had last year to help me commit to the gym. I need to make a list of things I would like to do and then "train" for those things.
DH has been jumping the season and has planted flowers, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Around here, they say not to plant before Mother's Day. We will be lucky if we don't yet have a frost.
Paula, your turkey meatloaf sounds delicious! I will have to try that! Shari, when is your trip to Guatemala? I hope you both have a wonderful Wednesday!!

DW, Such good news about your DD going to church on Easter! It sounds like little by little she has been making good progress. I am sure your support helps her in many ways. The situation with your phone and being in the car behind her sounds like divine intervention to me. It was meant to be that way and for her to go to church…a God breeze as they say.
The plant based eating webinar was very interesting and informative. John and I realized that we will not likely ever go vegan because of possible deficiencies in Vitamin B12. While I have a heart for animals like you do Shari, I think we will continue to eat a balanced diet with some chicken and turkey, very little if any beef, and no pork. I would have a rough time giving up eggs too. Because we attended the webinar we have access to some plant based recipes which I will consider to dabble in now and then. I pretty much already know the basics and will build on that.
It was another high energy day for me, and I was able to accomplish quite a bit. I stayed on plan and am aiming for a repeat of this for Wednesday.

DW- That is such a God moment for certain. He pursues his children as he loves us so incredibly much.
I have been going to the gym quite regularly and it truly is the best part of day when I finish. I feel so emotionally and physically well. That feeling of wellness keeps me going back. I hope it will for you too DW.I head off to Guatemala from Aug 11-21. We have so much to prepare for in the interim, but it is going well.
I have always enjoyed learning about food and certain diets. I am glad that you found the webinar interesting. I think it is wise to keep some animal based foods in one's diet so you don't become deficient in any nutrients. I am focusing on pro metabolic eating right now. I am doing well with that and enjoy the foods that I eat.
0 -
Shari, pro metabolic eating is surely the way to go overall, especially as you are getting results and enjoy the foods. I remember first learning about this from a friend on the old spark people site. She opened my eyes to this initially and turned me on to a book with info and recipes that I still have but haven't looked at recently. I gain encouragement from looking again at that book, so I will have to dig it out again. I did ok today with points and tracking, but my motivation is waning a little. I have to pump myself up again and focus on motivation along with food choices. I had another relatively easy day. Tomorrow has a few more demands, but I think I can handle it all.

It can be difficult to keep up with the good habits we have formed. I didn't do well tracking yesterday but will see if I can today. It really does help to see the calories and macros. I still need to eat more protein. I am finding cottage cheese isn't as enjoyable as it was. I may need to add something to it so I don't mind eating it. It is such an easy way to get lots of protein.
I slept in today, I forgot to set my alarm. I will need to shorten my morning routine so that I can get to work in good time.
0 -
Cottage cheese seems to be an acquired taste. I like it sometimes mixed with fruit but must eat it in very small amounts because of my lactose intolerance. Some days my lactose intolerance acts up more than other days. Often cottage cheese is high in sodium which is something else I try to watch. But I love it for its high protein content and easy accessibility for a quick bite to eat.
I had another good energy day today and am pleased with how much I accomplished. I was tired by evening but that seems fairly normal. For supper I made taco salad using ground turkey and really enjoyed it. I have a considerable list for tomorrow and expect to do ok with it. I think I can do enough so that I won't have a to do list for Saturday.
0 -
It looks to be a beautiful day outside today. Finally! I hope to spend some outdoors today and tomorrow to do some gardening. That should help with my step count too. Our leaves have started to bud on the trees so things will look so green in a few more days. I am excited for that too.
I have to come up with an idea for dinner for tonight. You have me thinking tacos Paula!
0 -
My day went well in all areas. I took care of all of my to do items and have nothing to work on for Saturday. Woo hoo! I was tired by evening again even though I slept a bit later than usual. My evening was quite restful too. I am focusing on eating our evening meal at a reasonable hour and not delaying it till John feels hungry. He is very cooperative with this, and it helps me a great deal to have everything cleaned up early enough to enjoy a restful evening. Our weather was lovely during the day, but we had thunderstorms and heavy rain in the evening. Since we are still in a rain deficit the rain is a good thing right now.
Let's all enjoy a super weekend!

It was wonderful to work from home on a Friday and I had banked time so was off a bit early too! I was tired by the end of the day but I still managed to get my tomato plants out to the greenhouse. I don't think it will freeze in there again. Today my outdoor goal is to weed the strawberry patch and water.
We could use some thunderstorms here. It is so dry and a heavy rain would be welcomed.
