I had a good day yesterday. I was able to do some shopping and found two summer T-Shirts and and some workout tops. This will be so good as my wardrobe was lacking in lighter summery tops. I didn't sleep will last night so I hope I will have a better sleep tonight. I don't feel tired, so that is good.

I love local honey!!! I think honey has a lot of health benefits being a natural sweet treat.

Yay for your shopping successes Shari. I truly appreciate nice clothing and finding some items to enhance my wardrobe, just like you did! I have always loved clothing (probably too much) and still do. I know I have too many clothes and really must do more seasonal cleans outs, but that doesn't stop me from buying a new item here and there (of course now all of my purchases are online).

I slept really late today and felt well rested but also felt like part of my day was missing. Our weather was very rainy and chilly which sort of encouraged extra sleep. I did well with food choices again as well as tracking everything. I cooked enough for tomorrow too so that increases my likelihood for an on-track Sunday too. John and I plan to watch Yankee baseball tomorrow afternoon, and then I hope to once again catch up on on reading.

    A blessed Sunday to all!

Hello! I'm happy to read that you are both doing well! Interestingly, we've been enjoying local honey too. It is the one consistent thing that we've been purchasing at the local Farmer's Market.

It has been a week for me! Church went well and I was able to sneak a cough drop while the minister gave the sermon. On Monday I had dental work on the tooth that was bothering me and I'd taken antibiotics for it in preparation for a permanent fix. The appointment went well but I woke up Tuesday morning in extreme pain. They called in another antibiotic prescription, and I took lots of ibuprofen every 2-3 hours plus a gabapentin. On Thursday morning, the pain was subsiding but that side of my face was swollen so badly that I wore a mask to work. I called the dentist again and he was out of the office until Monday and could see me Tuesday. The swelling has gone down but not 100% and the pain is better but not 100%. I have a cleaning on 6/23 so plan to cancel the Tuesday appointment unless it gets worse.

The funeral on Tuesday was very sad but there were many many people who came to the calling hours to offer their support. We had no idea that he was so well known in the community.

My weight has continued to go up even when I expect it should go down- possibly due to the salt content of the soft foods that I've had to eat. I'm eating a bit more normally now so perhaps the weight will start to go down.

I hope you both have a blessed Sunday!

I am sure if we put all three of our wardrobes together we wouldn't have as many clothes as Tony has. He has so many items of the same things. I am not 100% sure, but I don't think he washes his clothes, he just buys new. I have been laundering things and organizing them so I hope that he will stop shopping now. I bought a laundry hamper so worn clothes can be dropped in there instead of on a chair.

So far I haven't had any seasonal allergies. I do think it's the honey, and if it happens to be a placebo effect, that is fine by me!

DW- I used to be a dental assistant and I feel awful for you that you you got worse, not better after the appt. I am guessing you had a root canal done. It might be worth going in on Tuesday so they can check on the infection. I wouldn't want you to loose the tooth after the investment that has been made in fixing it.

My weight has gone up too DW. I need to eat better! I have snuck in a few meals that were not diet friendly this week.

Shari, I literally laughed out loud reading your comment on Tony's clothes! I could just picture the situation. I haven't weighed myself in a long time because stepping on the scale and standing unassisted is so difficult for me. My legs and strength have slightly improved lately so maybe this will be the week I can stand on the scale and get an accurate weight. I snacked more than I should have today without tracking every bite, but I tried to keep my evening meal and points down a bit.

Tomorrow we take Buster to have his dental cleaning. Seems like dental work is touching all of us in one way or another. I have never had dental cleaning done on any of my other pets ever but am doing this for Buster based on the vet's recommendation. The cost is more expensive than for a human dental visit, I think partly because Buster has to go under anesthesia. He is 6 years old so I am hoping he will not need this done ever again. I will to drop him off at 9 am and will be called when it is time to pick him up, likely around 3 pm or so.

I have adjusted my meal plan slightly for this week to make sure I get enough protein throughout the day. I have added a banana smoothie to the morning. I really enjoy them too.

I trust Buster will do well at the appt. It must be so confusing to our pets to undergo these types of activities. No way to prepare them or determine how they tolerated the appt.

I hope you can get on the scale Paula. More for the non scale victory!

Buster did well with his dental cleaning. I was somewhat stressed when I expected an update call between 12 pm and 1 pm, and the call didn't come til 2 pm!! That one hour seemed like forever to me!. We brought him home around 4:30, still somewhat groggy from the anesthesia. He is slowly coming around to his old self but still is a bit groggy and out of sorts. I expect by tomorrow he'll be mostly back to himself. My food day was not as good as it could have been. I was snacking and didn't make the best choices. My points for today are high again so I have to be extra careful for the rest of the week. I like the idea of morning smoothies. I have them on occasion and really should have them more often too.

Eating enough protein is keeping me feeling full which is good. I just need to figure out a better way to add protein to what I call my second breakfast. I tried adding casein to my breakfast apple risotto and it really dulled the flavour of the apples. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much so I need to see if there is another way. Not sure I would like casein with water, but I might try that today.

So good that Buster has his dental cleaning behind him!

DW, I hope your oral problems have subsided and that your mouth is healing and the other related issues are improving too. It seems to me that while dental procedures have greatly improved over the years, more people are having difficulties and issues with dental work. It seems that things were much simpler years ago.

Shari, I was not familiar with casein so I looked it up. It sounds interesting. Breakfast apple risotto sounds delicious and exotic. So I looked that up too. Yum! I might try that sometime. You certainly are broadening my horizons. Do you make it in advance or do you make it the morning you eat it?

I did well today. I had strawberries for my healthy snack and reasonable points for my meals. Our 2 online church classes tonight were great. I was all caught up on the readings and enjoyed the discussions. My RA symptoms have been mostly manageable lately but for reasons I can't figure out my eczema (atopic dermatitis) is raging these days. It is all part of my auto immune disorders, that much I understand. It's sort of like one area of inflammation calms down and another flares.

I am happy that Buster is mostly back to his normal self.

Paula- I batch cook the apple risotto. I use 7 apples and that lasts me for just over a week. I simply heat it up in the morning. I love it so much that I eat it every morning for breakfast now. Yum!

Sorry to hear that your auto immune system is causing eczema to flare up for you. I wish I had some advice to help calm things down for you.

DH and I are hosting our youth leader year end party at our farm. I have been cleaning all week and this afternoon I will leave work early to prepare the punch and meat. We have asked guests to bring sides and desserts. It is supposed to rain, that isn't great news so I hope we can fit everyone indoors.

I want to try the apple risotto as soon as I get some nice apples. Batch cooking it makes sense to me. John is looking forward to it too. I admire your involvement with your youth program Shari. Hope the weather cooperates for you. We are coming to the end (I hope) of a very rainy trend. We really didn't have much of a spring season, and now it seems we could be facing a heat wave (temps over 90) most of next week. Not looking forward to that!

I did very well today with food and my to do list. My energy level was good. I slept late again and felt well rested. Thursday's to do list is not long as of now, but often I find more things that need my attention.

    shariletts Posts: 1,163 Member

I use Granny Smith apples as I like the tartness. I look forward to breakfast everyday. Our weather cooperated last night. It didn't start raining until 11:30pm. My DH was such a blessing to me. He bbq'd the meat and then after everyone left and I went to bed he cleaned the kitchen. That was so amazing! I had a good sleep, just shorter than I would have liked. I have some meetings at work today so I could't sleep in. I will tomorrow. I need to get some time back from my long day yesterday.

Keep us posted about your weather. We have had a dry spring so it is nice to finally get some rain.

Shari, you are very blessed, cooperative weather and even better a wonderful husband who helps! I am sure he is just as blessed with you.

We had temps in the high 80s today with considerable humidity. Fortunately our home stays cool through most of the day so we really need to adjust the AC for just a little while before bed and then return it to its normal setting of about 75 degrees. I did ok today with tracking but used all of my points, which is ok, but I like to have a few left over at the end of the day.

I learned that the son-in-law killer waved his preliminary hearing so he won't be in court until mid-July for his arraignment. I think when the arraignment is held he will officially learn of the charges against him and will then plead guilty or not guilty. Of course I still think about horrific way in which my friends died, such kind innocent people. I just hope he pleads guilty and doesn't put the family through more pain with a trial.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,163 Member

Oh Paula! I hope he pleads guilty too, I guess it depends on what the charges will be and if his lawyer can agree with the crime and punishment. A trial is a very difficult process to go through and does bring on more injury to the trauma.

I needed to sleep in today. I just so tired! I have had a full work week as well as helping the neighbours. Tony made it home!!!! Woohoo! He looks really good and seems happy to be back which is great.

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,323 Member

So happy to know that Tony is home and even better that he looks good. You and your DH are doing the Lord's work in caring for and helping him.

My friend Carol texted me late in the afternoon to say that her surgery went well, that she was tired (of course) and that her daughter is staying with her at least for the 1st night. Her daughter is a sweet woman but has a host of issues both medical and (mostly) mental health. I am glad she is able to step up and help Carol. (Carol, a widow, also has a son who is a recovering alcoholic who is a great guy but of course is faced with his own challenges.) I am sure Carol will call when she is able to chat a bit.

I did well with my tracking and food choices. I have been enjoying strawberries for my snack (zero points) but might splurge tomorrow and have strawberries and cool whip on top of pound cake (easy version of strawberry shortcake) for John and me. I plan to count the points for this too.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,163 Member

I made it through the youth year and now my workload will be lighter for a few months. At least I hope so! I want to commit to food tracking again. I haven't been tracking my dinners of late and the scale went up a few digits to remind that I need to be tracking everything! No strawberry shortcake for me for awhile!

It's good hear that Carol had her surgery. I know there will be a tough road to navigate with the radiation treatments, but it's good that the cancer has been removed.

I do work today for a bit. I have a mission team meeting this morning and not 100% sure what the rest of the day will bring.

PA weather from wet to sweat.jpg

Shari, you really put in a lot of time with your responsibilities at work. I hope you enjoy the remaining time this weekend doing what pleases you and isn't work related. I slept in a little again today and appreciated the extra rest. I had a few tasks on my list and took care of the biggest one but not anything else. Our weather is increasingly hot and humid now. I am grateful for our AC and being able to stay indoors. After all the rainy days we had, we are now entering a heat wave. We really did go from "wet to sweat" as some folks are saying.

I cooked enough today that I won't have to heat up the kitchen by using the stove tomorrow. Will just reheat using the microwave. I made the strawberry shortcake for John but had just strawberries and cool whip for myself, even though I love pound cake. I opted to stay within my point range.

A restful and relaxing Sunday for me. Being able to reheat yesterday's supper instead of cooking a new meal was a bonus of the day. I have made my Monday to do list and think it is easy and manageable. Our house is staying comfortable with the AC set at a reasonable temp. So all is good. John and Buster do ok going outside but don't stay out any longer than necessary.

That graphic is so creative and bold. I like it! Not the part where you are heading into a heatwave though.

We have had a houseguest for three nights and yesterday I slept way in! That made my Sunday a short day which I didn't love. I had a restful day and that was wonderful. Back into a work week with a lot more time to get caught up on some older projects I haven't had time for.

Have good day and stay cool!

Hello! As usual, I have started this message many times and nodded off before completing it. This time I am doing it early before my evening chores. It sounds like you have both been doing well!! Paula, we are also in the heat wave. It was 95 today and they said that it felt like 103. I think this is the third day of it. I'm happy to hear that Carol's surgery went well!! Shari, I am happy to hear that your work week has slowed down for a bit! I hope that Tony is continuing to do well at home.

We took DD to the Detroit airport on Saturday and she went to spend a week with her brother and family. Her two dogs are here and I stop after work to take care of her cats each day. I was able to get to church on Sunday and that was nice. I will probably miss this coming Sunday due to the return airport trip and will definitely miss July 4th weekend due to a paying job at a dog show doing something that I enjoy. My visit to the dentist went well today. My teeth have been good and the swelling and pain has been gone for many days. They didn't find any new concerns! My weight has started slowly inching downward after I gained so much while being miserable for weeks. I continue to do NOOM and track my food there. I must close-I am being summoned to provide supper by my old dog who is barking loudly and repeatedly. Have a great Tuesday!

DW, Great to learn that your dental issues are resolving so well! Hope you "weather" the heat wave in as cool as possible ways. We keep our house closed up as much as possible and manage the AC at reasonable temps. Our electric utility provider raised its rates 16% as of June 1 so I am bracing myself for the first summer bill when it arrives.

Shari, Hope your week is off to a good start. I would need to recover from having house guests, even easy ones I enjoy.

My Monday went well. I was able to rest a little in between chores. I needed that because I had a very restless night with my eczema still bad. It is almost always much worse at night. I did fine with food and am working on paying closer attention to portion sizes to make sure I am accurately tracking. Some foods are easier to track than others for me.

  • shariletts

Good to catch up with your news DW! Lots to do but it all sounds great. You both have heat and our first few days of summer have been very cool. Our furnace just went on. The funny thing is that I went over to see Walter and Tony and was sweating by the time I left. There place was so hot, then I got home and our place is too cool. I am not sure what is going on that it is hot at their home. I hope they don't have the heat turned way up. I will need to check the next time I go over.

I am working from home today which will be wonderful. I can throw a few loads of laundry in throughout the day. I didn't get a chance to do that on the weekend.

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,323 Member

I wonder if Walter and Tony do have their heat turned way up. Maybe Tony is cold due to his medical condition, circulation issues, etc. Our heat wave continues but I think I have a little different perspective today because I started thinking about my family who live in Texas and have weather like this quite often for extended periods of time. I know theirs is more of a "dry heat" while here we have high humidity, but I think our unusual weather is preferable, at least for me.

My day was uneventful and productive again. That is a good day in my book. I was high in points today but not overly so. I will just make sure to be a little more cautious on Wednesday. My eczema is calming down a bit too. I slept better last night and am aiming for another good sleep tonight.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,163 Member

We will definitely check the thermostat. Poor Walter was so hot. He commented on the heat wave happening in your area and wasn't sure how older people survive it. We continue to have chilly weather so I layer up always hoping it will warm up as the day goes.

I had a really good sleep too Paula, just a bit shorter than I would have liked. I need to get bed on time so I can get enough hours in.

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,323 Member

It looks like our heat wave will break on Thursday with a high only in the mid 80s, and by Friday our high is predicted to be in the 70s, delightful! We'll go back to higher temps (in the 80s again) after Friday but I think not the oppressive heat and humidity of this week.

My day went well again, but I was a little hungrier that usual even for me. I was kept pretty busy with a fairly long to do list and feel good about everything I got done. Tomorrow's list is long too but I am thinking positively that it is all do-able.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,163 Member

I had a good day yesterday. I felt so good after spending time and figuring out how to do what is called a Workflow on our church's database. I made one for food requests that can be sent to our foods team. Getting it to work has opened up doors for me to do other projects.

I have put on a bit of weight this week and I need to do better at tracking so I can keep my calories in check. I haven't been tracking dinners, so I will get back to that.

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,323 Member

Your computer skills must be very good Shari. From what I remember from years ago working with databases can be complicated. Yay for your accomplishments with this!

I had a VERY productive day today, switching around my spring/summer and fall/winter clothing. When I was more mobile I used to store the off season clothes in our finished basement, but I haven't been to my basement in years. So now I have to fit everything in the accessible areas of our ranch home. Since I am a clothing lover, this is rather challenging. It has, however, inspired me to clean out some items I don't care for as much or don't expect to wear. Today I filled one large garbage bag with donations for the Purple Heart Foundations which supports veterans. I scheduled a pick up for July 3 and plan to have at least 4 bags for them by then. I am very motivated with this and am grateful that I had the energy and John's help to get done as much as I did. I did ok with food choices today but skipped some of my tracking. I might add in what I missed before I go to bed. I remember what I ate so it should be easy to do.

  • shariletts
    shariletts Posts: 1,163 Member

That is such a good task to get looked after Paula. I have such difficulty parting with older clothing but I also love to add new items to my wardrobe. I need to schedule some time to do what you did.

I stuck to my diet plan and I was able to track. Now to keep the momentum going.

Yesterday I changed Tony's sheets and then I cut the tops off from beets. Walter grows beets indoors and eats the leaves. They help his gut issues. Not something I have ever heard of and I will probably look up to see what properties they have. I think Jim said he has ulcers and the beet leaves are what he uses to stop the pain.

Hello! I'm happy to hear that you are both doing well!! The heat wave has continued here. Even the days that are only in the upper 80s are miserable and feel much hotter due to the humidity. Today my car thermometer said 95 after work. I am going to visit my sister for about half a day tomorrow since her son and his family are here from CA. She sent me a text to bring my tennis shoes to play kickball. I'm pretty sure I won't be doing that at my age and in this heat. On Sunday morning we pick up DD. She has been feeling ill for the past 2 days with a cough and sore throat. I suspect she is putting up a good front and continuing with the vacation activities.

I am looking forward to a shorter work week this coming week due the July 4th and am also looking forward to working at the dog show7/4-7/6. The extra money will be a nice bonus! I hope I don't spend it all there because there are vendors with all manner of dog products.

I hope you both have a wonderful weekend!!

  • Paulawilldo
    Paulawilldo Posts: 1,323 Member

DW, If I were at a dog show I am sure I would end up patronizing the vendors. I am intrigued by unusual items at special events. Enjoy the time you get to spend with your sister and her family. I'd skip the kickball in this weather….well, knowing me I'd probably skip the kickball in any weather, lol. Hope your DD feels better. I think airline travels increases our chances for catching something.

Shari, Walter and Tony seem like quite the pair, unique and interesting for sure. They are so fortunate to have you and Jim so close by and so kind. My aide was here today and changed our sheets and did other helpful chores like cleaning the bathroom and swifferring all of the floors. She does an amazing job and is very sweet. She is from the Dominican Republic and still has family there. I had my computer guy work on an old laptop we don't use anymore so she could send it to her nephew there. She was so very appreciative, and I felt good that we could help her nephew.

A friend told me that honey should be taken with a wooden spoon. I googled this and found discussions about this. So tonight I ordered wooden spoons from Amazon. John and I have been having our daily honey (with a metal spoon) and feel it is helping with our allergies. I didn't track everything today and have no good excuse except that maybe I was avoiding the reality of my points.
