introduction and question - surgery without support
Hi - I'm Eric, 38 year old RN with a current BMI of 43 (give or take). I've had two previous false starts with having surgery (Vertical Sleeve) , the first was about 5 years ago and the most recent was about 18 months ago. First time - I had pretty crappy insurance, so it would have been cost prohibitive in all honesty.…

Ideas for small, high protein meals?
Help! I need ideas for meals I can make in advance and freeze or refrigerate in small portions. I've been making one large, high protein, low fat meal, then portioning it out and eating throughout the week. It is getting boring.

How am I not losing weight?
I just had VSG on 6/9. My diet is 2-3 sugar free protein shakes per day, with some sugar free popsicles, broth, water, and 1 cup of coffee with skim milk in the a.m. My calories are about 400 per day. I do some light exercise everyday - such as walking around the neighborhood. How is it possible that I am not losing…

RNY Question :0)
Do any of you RNY folks NOT get dumping?? Many of us that choose RNY are looking for that negative reinforcement but of course not everyone gets it so if you didn't get "blessed" with dumping, is it sort of like having the Sleeve then? Like you know you can eat something without becoming sick, but are you only able to get…

I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner and always hit my protein goal, but lately its like an hour or so after I eat I am hungry again! I try drinking…

Banded for 5+ years and maintaining weight like me?
Hi to all the banders out there! Just wondering how many of us have had success (very few complications either) with their band? I am approaching my 5-year anniversary next week and I'm down 80lbs and have maintained for several years now. Who is like me? Anyone? Would love to know :) What foods are you still clogging you?…

Protein (or other) Sample Packs and Sales
I figure it might be useful to have a Topic for people to post special pricing or sample packs they have run across or ordered. I'll start: About Time protein has a $4.99 delivered (to the US) price for two flavors of their protein powders. Not the best price in the world, but a chance to taste some different flavors…

"Back Lash"
I have been very open about my weight loss journey from the beginning. In June 2013 I began with diet and exercise... through my surgery date I had lost around 80 pounds... since surgery 2/20 I have lost about 29 more. I have had many folks be supportive and wish me well. Some of the folks that have been vocal in support…

Surgical Consultation Today
Busy day today! More hurdles cleared! I met my surgeon today and made it through another couple of steps prior to surgery. I didn’t get my date yet, but everything went well. I believe I get my surgery date when i see the surgeon next on July 18th. I could have gotten the date this Friday, but the appointment didn’t fit my…

research link
I found a research link I wanted to share http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ (MedlinePlus is the National Institutes of Health's Web site for patients and their families and friends). It is for all medical issues but has a lot about WLS. If you use the search term (Weight Loss Surgery) you will get a number of papers on…

Sleeve - re former post about stretchy part of stomach
I read on this blog about someone whose DR. had stated that if they took the stretchy part of the stomach instead of other areas; the stomach should not stretch out again as fast; as if they took other portions I questioned my RN at the last meeting and she did not know anything about this. Can anyone shed some light on…

On the road to VSG!!! Some questions...
So I just had an appt today with a surgeon and it seems like I'm on the road to getting the VSG procedure!! I'm SO excited that I can't contain it!! All I need are the necessary prerequisites (psyc eval, endoscopy, etc) and they said that I could be going in for surgery as early as mid July!!! Now, I have come to expect…

Hi, my name is Paula and I just had Gastric Bypass this past Wednesday, May 20th. My weight on the 20th was 321lbs. I'm having a really hard time adjusting right now. I was given instruction from my surgeon and dietician and have spoken with them since but, I'm still having trouble figuring out how much to eat and what…

Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I am currently scheduled for Sleeve surgery on July 9th and have lost 11lbs since i started the process just over a month ago. Today I start my Pre-op diet of only protien shakes and 1 salad a day... Ugh... Not sure how to do this! All I want to do is eat at this point. Well…

YAY!!!! Everything seems to be coming together!
The bariatric surgeon gave me a list of items that I need to have signed off on by specific Dr's! So far I have my psych eval scheduled 7/15/14, and am on their cancellation waiting list, after that appt they will refer me to the NUT in their group, my pulmonary appt is 6/20, and my regular DR clearance can be done at any…

Neat trick with food diary settings
I just learned this from another MFPer and thought I would share with you all: If you go into the Food/Settings, you can change your meal names to whatever you want. So, if you don't do 3 meals a day and snacks, you can do something like this instead: Breakfast Mid Morning Snack Lunch Mid Afternoon Snack Dinner After…

What to do with hand-me-down clothes in CT?
I would love to donate the clothes I grow out of to others who are going through the weight loss process. I usually donate to a local place, but my thought is that we in the WLS world really need some help with clothing as we quickly lose weight, sometimes being in one size for only a month or so. My sister went through…

Posting Pictures in a Forum Post
Folks, posting pictures inside of a forum post is relatively easy, but not intuitively obvious. The hardest part is that you have to have the pictures hosted at an outside site. I use Photbucket (www.photobucket.com). It's free and easy to sign up and upload pictures. Once you have a picture in your library (preferably…

Getting nervous about surgery on Monday!
I am excited to have VSG on Monday, but I definitely have a case of the nerves. I also am suddenly afraid that for some reason, VSG (which works for so many) won't work for me, even though I am committed to doing it right and following the rules. Aah!! Any advice?

Cheating on preop diet???
The goal of the preop diet is to shrink the fat in/around the liver. I feel that just by eating a low carb, high protien diet you can achieve this and am really annoyed by drinking these nasty shakes that leave me hungry.... Did anyone break down and have some chicken on this diet? I am allowed to eat low carb veggies and…

1 week post VSG
And I feel great. Between the pre-surgery diet and being on liquids post-surgery, I've lost 25 lbs in two weeks. I wish someone had prepared me for the extreme nausea post-surgery. Seriously, they pumped me full of anti-nausea meds before surgery and for the first two days after, and I still felt like I had the stomach…

UPDATE!!! So Excited!
I am so excited! Things seem to be rolling along, though I am sure there will be set backs! I had another information session with a new Surgeon last night. Funny NSV (for the ladies)
Went to Victoria's Secret's big sale this week and asked to be measured because, hey, lots of weight lost = new bra size. Well I did in fact lose several inches band size, but my cup size actually went up! :blushing:  Well, couldn't believe the measurements, so had to try on with both new and old cup size before…

Golf NSV!!
Big day for me today. One of the things that helped me to convince myself that WLS was the right answer for me was when my hips continued to get worse and I had to give up walking the golf course, drastically reduce the amount of basketball I played and even run less with the kids that I coach in basketball. Well, for the…

Expected Weight Loss First Two Months after Surgery
Again. I know it depends on the individual, but I am just looking for ball park - what everyone else has experienced. I know that I will lose during the two week liquid diet prior to surgery, but am wondering what kind of loss to expect following surgery? I am 240 now....
