Lap band vs gastric bypass
I have just started looking into surgery. I have talked to a surgeon and started the process but it will be at least January before I can have it done. I might need that time just to decide between the options. It seems the more I read the more trouble it will be. I have a bmi of 48. I have high blood pressure and…

Enough Calories?
I had the sleeve done in December, and had to have it revised to RNY in Feb due to major complications. My question is (and I am going to talk it over with my surgeon when I see him this coming month too) how many calories should I be taking in a day to keep lean muscle and still lose fat? The three or so months I spent in…

Have I been jilted?
I am 5 months out of RNY and consuming 1200-1600 calories. My weight loss is about a pound a week. I've read around that I am to still be on an 800 calorie diet. My nutritonist says 1200-1600 others ( non medical) say 800. Who is right?

One Year Since Surgery - Reflection and pics :)
So a year ago today, I got serious about my health and made some major lifestyle changes including having lap band surgery. I have no regrets that I had the band placed, other then a faint notion that I may have been able to do it on my own since I lost most of my weight with no fill. At most I had under 3 ccs in my band,…

Decaf coffee after gastric bypass?
Hi everyone. I am just about to hit 2 months post-op gastric bypass. My surgeon told me to stay away from caffeine because it can irritate and worsen ulcers in the stomach as well as dehydrate you, so I know regular coffee is off limits, but I was wondering if decaf was ok. I just miss the taste of coffee and I've found…

Frustrated
I am so frustrated. I had the RNY surgery on March 1, all I have lost is 53lbs. I'm 5'7 and was told at 4 months to consume 1200 to 1400 calories a day. The weight loss has dramatically slowed down.My surgeon suggest that my goal weight is 190lbs. I can see me getting within 50 in 1 year. I don't know what to do. I feel so…

Pain in main incision area 10 days post-lap band
I am having some major pain in my main incision area 10 days post lap band surgery. It looks normal and we have been monitoring possible infection closely. lack of enery
Can someone out there please comment on this extreme lack of energy I seem to have here in week four? Is it related to the lower calories? My doctor said there's a kind of 'hibernation syndrome'. If anyone experienced that, could you please tell me how long it took to push past it and what you did to help? I sleep well at…

WLS and Quitting Smoking
I expect to have my surgery in January and although I haven't been given a deadline on when to stop smoking, I know that I will need to quit. (Of course, I KNOW I should quit anyway!) Has anyone here had to deal with simultaneously quitting smoking AND losing the required amount of weight beforehand? What have been your…

Need beach freindly protein ideas
I am going to the beach this week and I am looking for some ideas of what to eat on the beach. I don't really care for many of the protein bars out there. I have bought some protein "snacks" from bariatric choice, but they are only 10-12 gms of protein per serving. I have to eat 125gms of protein a day so I need about…

Can't get water in
Holy batman - Am having issues getting my water in. Yesterday my BP dropped and it took a couple of hours for it to come back. Think it might have to do with the fact I can't get much water in - I just fill up. I drink some protein shake and am full for a few hours. I drink a little water and I am full. And then today I…

Anyone have issues with High Copper levels and/or Low BP?
I had my 6 month check up yesterday. They are thrilled with my progress. I have lost 76% of my excess body weight and 90 lbs so far. The only two things they were concerned with is that 1. my Copper level was significantly elevated from the last time and 2. I have been very dizzy and have almost passed out twice. My BP in…
