6 months weigh in
Today I had my 6 month weigh in! Officially lost 76lbs, 11 inches in my waist, 10 inches in my arms and 8 inches in my legs! AMAZING! However, my iron, at my 3 month weigh in, was extremely low (was reading 44)...it is now 31, which is dangerous. I even take ferrous gluconate everyday, together with the prenatal. They also…

2 week pre-op diet
The center where I am having my RNY requires a 2 week VLC diet. I am on day 3 and I am STARVING!!! I found protein that I like, so that has not been a problem. I keep telling myself that in less than 2 weeks I will find even this much food to be WAY too much, but I am finding that I didn't realize just how much I had been…

Biotin Anyone?
I am experiencing the side effect of surgery.......hair loss! However, it's not drastic, but I am noticing how much thinner it has become, bald spots, breakage. I stopped colouring my hair after surgery and have it cut short (too short for me - chin length :I). I want to try and grow it fast now, and strengthen it. Anyone…

Does anyone eat couscous or quinoa after surgery and if so how much and how do you prepare it? What kind of protein shakes will I need/do you use and where is best place to get them. I am trying to prepare…

How long after sleeve were you able to go back to work?
I have a sedentary job and I am not planning to tell people at work that I had surgery. Taking time off for what is considered by management as elective surgery is highly highly frowned on (basically viewed as career suicide.) I have a weeks vacation coming and I hope to do the surgery the first day of my vacation. Am I…

Is there something wrong with me?
I have numerous friends/relatives that have had weight loss surgery of some sort, be it the band, sleeve or gp. From talking with them and reading things online, I was under the impression I wouldn't be hungry after the surgery or that my cravings would go away. Well I am 11 days post op and I do get hungry. Like yesterday…

Join me for a pouch test?
I was banded just over 3 years ago and have yet to loose the last 30ish pounds. I know in the past people have talked about doing pouch test and seem to think they work. For people who haven't heard of it it is sort of like a detox but for WLS and helps you feel your tool again. I admit sometimes I totally forget about my…

Hi! I'm new to this group and I have a few questions that I need answered. I am in the process of getting an appointment to have an evaluation for weight loss surgery. The information I have read on this site has been truly eye opening but there's some things I'd still like to know. For instance, how difficult was it…

Anyone care to share?
I just had the surgery but my husband and I have been talking and wondering what my "diet" will be like say 1 yr out? 3 yrs out? 5 yrs out? etc? Anyone care to share how far out you are and what a typical day is like for you? Do you still weight/measure your foods? Are you able to ever indulge in say a piece of birthday…

Looking for Friends in this Group
I have just made the decision to proceed with bariatric surgery after much consternation. I met with a couple of my doctors yesterday including my PCP and discussed my decision. My PCP has brought it up to me a few times in the past few years. I had not wanted to even entertain her suggestions previously as I thought I…

Calcium Supplements
I read a New York Times article that quoted how a long term, large group experiment proved that large quantities of calcium supplements increased a person's risk of heart attack by 30%. 30%!!! Anyone out there know if calcium is malabsorbed, so I might escape this risk, or anyone out there talked this over with their…

Pain Medications
So I have started running as most of you already know and I have some sore muscles. Sincewe can't take advil or aleve and tylenol does nothing for me, I was wondering if what everyone else took for mild muscle pain or should I just tough it out or find something topical?

What's Your "Full" Trigger?
I know before RNY, I never knew when I was full. It wasn't until I was OVER-full.. often painfully.. that I would stop eating. Since RNY, I have really tried to recognize the signals my body gives when I'm approaching "full" and I'm curious if anyone else has come up with a "trigger" or "signal" you get when you're nearly…

Caffiene?
On my food guide for gastric bypass, it tells me to avoid caffeine and carbonated drinks. The carbonation I understand, but does anyone know when I'll be able to have caffeine again? I sure do miss having a cup of coffee once in a while or other teas or crystal light that has caffeine... I'm about 5 weeks post op of…

6 months out
I have been reading tons of discussions in this group....and am a little concerned. A lot of you, post 6 months surgery, are still only eating between 800-1000 calories a day, yet are burning 300-400 calories a day on top of it. I am eating about 1100-1200 calories a day. I have a lot of intolerances from the surgery (ALL…
