Why we don't drink with meals
I was reading this today and found it very interesting. I have to admit I do sip while eating and generally drink about 15 - 20 min after, but I am going to make a conscious effort to stop! Hope you find this helpful. It's kind of long, but definitely worth the read. Why we don't drink with meals....... Sometimes…

plication gastric surgery
Has anyone had this type of gastric surgery? Was it covered by insurance? I'm just a layman but it looks safer to me. No cutting the stomach, no rearranging your gutts. The stomach is folded onto itself then stiched together. Less malabsorption, dumping, no staples (leaking), no bands to go through the walls, etc. This…

Whats the 1 thing?
What's the 1 thing that you have struggled letting go of during your journey? Have you conquered it or are you still trying to let go? For me it's salt!!! I love salt and seasoning...not sure if I will ever let go of this one. Chocolate is easier than salt for me!!!! :noway:

So....the first days after surgery?
Sorry for all the questions.... My Dr. does 2 weeks prior to surgery of a high protein liquid diet. This is the same diet you follow for two weeks after the surgery. Yesterday morning they brought me 4oz of a protein drink at the hospital and told me to drink what I could in 30 minutes - I made it about to 2oz I'd guess…

How did your spouse react to your WLS decision?
So you might recall I was very nervous about telling my husband about my decision about gastric bypass surgery. I was pretty nervous about it because in the past he has been adamant about me never having "that"!! I knew it would be a difficult conversation. Oh....I was right. HIs first reaction was "absolutely NOT!"…

How often do you weigh?
In the past when dieting through traditional methods I usually have fallen prey to weighing myself every dang day and then the depression that undoubtedly settles in when the scales have stalled or even gone up instead of down. Just wondering what others do? Thanks

So i don't know why, but the past couple of weeks I have felt more thin than ever and today I felt like I still weighed 320 lbs...I even caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and said I thought I was looking better than that. Maybe a little body dismorphic disorder going on. I went to zumba this afternoon and thought my…

I had my surgery March 5, 2012 and lost 40 before surgery and 75 since. So now that I have lost a major portion of my weight. I am wondering if I should rethink my goals. Originally I was 320lbs and a size 24/26W now I am a solid 14 regular at 205lbs. All I ever wanted was to be a 14. Now I am thinking a 10 might not be…

Multivitamin preferences?
I'm still in the beginning of this whole process and am currently researching different vitamin/protein options. I've found dozens of protein shakes, vitamin D, and vitamin B12 options but haven't been as successful in finding a good variety of multivitamins. So far, the only chewable multivitamin with iron that I've found…

See Surgical Team Tomorrow!
Sooo....tomorrow I see my surgical team to ask for an RNY. I had a sleeve Aug 2010. Hopped on the surgeons table at 620, after only losing 20 or so lbs preop. I am now 2 years post op. The plan was to have a 2 stage Duodenal Switch. But after doing loads of research and stuff think I am more suited to an RNY. Also, I have…

Surgery is done!! Woot!
Surgery yesterday - all went well. Felt horrible when I came to though...lots of pain and nausea. But by early evening I was starting to feel better - was able to get up and start doing laps around the unit. I've been up this morning and showered and doing more laps. I've also started my water every hour. If all goes well…

Plateau
I am about three and a half weeks out from surgery and I have hit a plateau. I haven’t lost any weight in over two weeks. The scale doesn’t seem to be moving at all. I just started exercising again as I was waiting to get the O.K from the Dr, but that doesn’t seem to have helped any. I feel like I wasted my time getting…

Tomorrow is the big day!
Tomorrow is surgery day! The closest hospital/dr.'s to me that does it, is 3 hours away - I have to be there at 8:30am. So it means taking my kids to my moms house around 4:30am tomorrow morning, gassing up and hitting the road. Surgery is scheduled for 10:30am. I've lost 17.2lbs since I started my liquid high protein diet…

Is this common or should I…

5 months out hormones are "jacked up" is that normal
I'm about 5 months post gastric sleeve and my hormones are really wacky. If I miss one birth control pill, I start my cycle, I'm having terrible breast tenderness and mood swings. What's going on? I know that estrogen is stored in fat cells, is it released as you loose weight? Anyone else experience this? Does it level out…

Before the surgery
Hi just wondering what the stages are that people go through before taking the giant leap ? I looked all around the internet for information, but am a real coward. I needed to loose the weight but just couldn't help myself, I never felt full. Whist trawling the net I discovered the Hypno-gastric-band. In principle this…

A few questions...
I'm still thinking about having the surgery but what happens after you reach your healthy weight? Do you have the band/staples/etc. removed? Which, in your opinion, is the best method? I'm scared to have certain surgeries but I haven't spoken with a doctor or anyone that has had the surgery to have these questions answered.

Losing my HAIR!!
Help! I am about 5 months post op and I am noticing that I am losing my hair. It appears thinner, and when I wash it, I notice that there is quite left in the shower drain. "Vacation" Food
I am interested in hearing how other RNY/lapbanders handle vacation and/or working out of town. My bariatric team recommends not eating out more than 2xa week which is impossible on the road. I can pick and choose at restaurants, but I have no idea how to record it, and I hate ordering food just to throw it away. More…
