  • I'll be 53 this year. On Saturday I deadlifted 405lbs. A new personal record for me. Mind you it was only one rep but my plan is to do a set of 4-6 by the end of the year.
  • I started lifting in January 2014. I was sick of losing my strength and wanted to build some muscle and lose fat. I contacted a family friend that does power lifting to see if he would help me out. For the last 3 years I have been lifting I have been pretty hit and miss but I have been doing it. This morning I went to the…
  • My wife (46) is peri-menopausal and luckily, her libido has skyrocketed to the point of sometimes 5-6/week. Thankfully I (52) have lost weight and have been working out for a few years and that has definitely helped in both performance and refractory time. With our kids not home very much, we have plenty of time to play.
  • I recently went from a 34" waiste jeans to a 32". My weight hasn't changed much in the last few months but now I may need a belt :)
  • I better unplug my internet connection. I don't need anymore flab.
  • I'll admit it, I'm one of those people. The thing is, I was still following my heathy eating lifestyle. I had a busy summer and autumn fixing, selling my house then moving mid November. I did manage trips to the gym during those times and kept weight gain to a minimum. (8lbs). As of Boxing Day, I'm down close to that 8lbs…
  • I have purposely gone and bought a couple really nice shirts that are one size too small (on sale). They will give me a little incentive to keep losing the flab.
  • Instead of the word "diet" I prefer lifestyle.
  • Today I'm going to download map my walk and take the dog for at least 2 miles.
  • Unfortunately over the Christmas holidays, the scale has been winning. Time to beat those numbers back. I went from not being able to do 2 pull-ups to being able to do 10+ I will call that a bit of an nsv.
  • Today's goal, lots of water, 3mile walk with my wife and the dog and then a good dumbbell workout. Oh ya, stay under my calorie goal!
  • What worked for me was/is attitude. I'll be 51 in September and I can still easily hop in and out of the back of my pickup truck. I was diagnosed type 2 diabetes 4 1/2 years ago. Didn't start taking it seriously until late last year (November ). Also high cholesterol. My Dr wanted to start me on Lipidor. I refused and said…
  • I stumbled into the gym about a month ago. My back was just killing me (it just flared up again tonight). The pain was so bad it hurt to lay down to do my bench press. I worked through my sets and set a new PR for myself (205lbs). I decided the plain isn't going to stop me. I hobbled over to do some deadlifts (stupid, I…
  • Today's NSV was a small one. Took the motorcycle out and was on a bumpy road. Didn't notice too much jiggling going on in my shirt. Felt damn good.
  • I'm going to beat the scale this week. I refuse to step on it for another week. A fellow in my neighborhood I haven't seen in quite a while was walking his dogs. He stopped to chat. He couldn't believe how much weight I dropped and how much muscle I've gained since last fall. That was today's NSV
  • Today I want to drink 8-10 glasses of water, get in 10k steps, get at least 20 flights of stairs and hit the gym for squats or deadlifts.
  • I found that cico helped but wasn't the be all end all. Exercise for me (lifting) really made a huge difference. I'm sure my metabolism is higher now than it was in my 20's. Being type 2 diabetic also had an effect. I have not only become aware of watching my carbs, but I found more importantly is when I have my carbs.…
  • My goals for the summer are to get down from my current 180.5 to 165-170 (just can't seem to get into the 170's). Lower my A1c to 1point under the standard and bring my LDL cholesterol down another 1-1.5 points. I also want to be bench pressing 200lbs by sept 4 (51st birthday) currently at 185 lbs. I also want to up my…
  • I used to wear a men's xl t-shirt (alway gray or black)and it was tight around the belly. I'm now wearing a men's medium in bright yellow, green or red. They are getting tight in the shoulders and arms from weight lifting but more importantly, they are loose in the belly. My next victory??? For me is to find a pair of…
  • My NSV's this week. My A1c went from 7.0 in January to 5.8 in June (take that diabetes!!) Also my LDL went from 4.73 to 2.01 Not much for weight loss, but health wise great!!! I did have to buy some smaller shirts as my body shape is changing (more muscle) but for some reason, I just can't get myself below 180lbs. I've…
  • Getting dressed for my daughter's grade 8 graduation, had to use the last hole in my belt and it was still a little loose. That felt good.
  • ^^^ the guy had a nice weight machine for $150.00. I got home and checked his ad, he dropped it to $135.00 It's a very sturdy bench that has an adjustable back for incline presses. Now I have to start searching the classifieds for a bar and weights.
  • I use a Fitbit one. I am a techie sort of guy but I don't obsess over my step count. I usually average 10k steps/day working and I can't always have my iPhone with me to count my steps. I have mine in its silicones sleave with the belt clip but I usually keep it in a pocket. I recharge it every 2-3 weeks.

  • My best NSV is my wife is way more attracted to me now that I'm down over 30lbs and have added a significant amount of muscle.
  • It'll be nice to talk with people in my own age group, especially about fitness. Most places I frequent are filled with the young folks who think supplements, not hard work, give you what you need. For me, whey protein, a healthy diet and hard work is all I need to succeed. On a good note, last night I picked up an Olympic…
  • I'm a 50 year old male happily married with 2 wonderful young daughters aged 13 and 11. I joined MFP In March of this year. I'm 5'6" and at my heaviest was 219lbs. I decided last November to finally take responsibility for my health after a little scare with my blood glucose readings (type2 diabetes). I had also noticed my…
  • The carb re-adjustment has paid off. Since November, when I weighed at my most, 217lbs I'm now at 185.5lbs. My chest size is the same but no more moobs (man boobs). I have lost my arm flab and actually gained 1" on my biceps. I've gone from wearing a large T-shirt to a medium which fits like it should. I also need a belt…
  • I have come down a pound in the last week:) I started by lowering my carbs but also consume most of them early in the day. On days I do weights, I'll add a few extra carb (Bran bar) and a protein shake 1hour before I workout. I'm also getting in a minimum of 20 flights of stairs daily and 10,000 steps at least 5 days a…
  • Great thanks. My wife finally downloaded the app and want my recipes to log the calories
  • All our meals with chicken are cooked with two breasts to feed a family of four. The amount I get May be 3/4 of a breast. I have almost completely cut out cheese and only use skim milk. I try to stir fry veggies with most meals. My red meat comsumption is 1/4-1/3 less than before. I have Reset my carbs to 25% for the next…
