  • Yes. I moved my maintenance weight up 5 lbs. in my 20s, 30s, and 40s I liked myself at 140 at 5’ 9”. But when I got to that weight at 62, it made my face look sunken. My husband told me and then I saw in a photo. So, I gained back 5 lbs and I now have been maintaining at 145-147 for 10 months now.
  • I felt this same feeling when I hit goal weight. I had a smaller amount to lose, about 25 lbs. But, I spent years losing and regaining the same 10 lbs on my fitness pal. I finally hit my goal weight last year in 2023. I’m now 9 months into maintenance. I first felt elation, soon followed by fear of gaining it all back. It…
  • I refused to change my goal weight of being 145lbs at 5’ 9”. I’m currently in maintenance and have stayed within 2 lbs of 145 for 5 months now. I started with 30 lbs to lose. I’ve been on MFP for 9!!!! Years now. I did get to 145 once before when I first came on here. But, I feel I did it all wrong because I restricted…
  • I love IF and have done it my entire adult life. Just naturally, before it had a name. It’s not a magic bullet for fat loss, in my opinion. But then for some, it feels like it is. I like that it helps me with compliance. It’s easier for me to stay within my allotted calories when I have an on and off switch. If you like to…
  • If you were on the thin side, or lower end of BMI during your younger years like I was, it can make you look drawn when you’re older. At least it did with me. If you’re just trying to keep your body at “not overweight” point. Then I agree, age doesn’t matter.
  • I’m female, 59 and 5’ 9”. Looking cute to me is still important. Probably always will be. At 19, I weighed 119. Yes skinny, but I was a kid, and it was the 70s. It worked. In my 30s and 40s, I weighed 140-145. That was a great range for me. I looked great in clothes and bathing suits. I felt good. After 50, I gained 17…
  • I was gonna say, even the model doesn’t look like photo 2. Lol.
  • One other thing. I had a friend on MFP tell me she didn’t like an open diary because it made a liar out of her. She felt she was being judged, so while she ate a couple of kitkats, she’d actually log an apple. If your diary is to impress other people instead of working on yourself and your health, something isn’t working…
  • I have a negative connection with leaving my diary open. I tend to be a very open book, sometimes to a fault. But, when I first started on MFP and opened my diary, I had someone message me to tell me I would get much better results from strength training if I did Keto. Not only that, she had her buddy message me too.…
  • You’re just bloated from pigging out. Start fresh tomorrow and drink lots water. No harm. No foul. As long as it’s not your daily thing, you’ll be fine.
  • I don’t eat breakfast. I don’t eat lunch. So my main meal is dinner. So it lasts like an hour and is about 600-700 calories. Sometimes more. Tonight. 2 soft tacos with Mexican cheese, sautéed Cod, romaine lettuce, guacamole, salsa, and a little bit of rice with butter. Followed by a chocolate protein bar & water melon. Oh…
  • I live in Florida and wear a sweatshirt, socks and long pants because I freeze with an air conditioner. No body else in the house feels this way and even sometimes say it’s hot. It’s worse when I’m eating at a deficit or when I’m at my goal lower weight. I sometimes run hot water over my feet to warm up. In Florida. Some…
  • I read the book when it first came out, only because someone had read it and told me, heh look, this guy wrote a book about how you eat. I was a faster by choice most of my life. His book was about fasting, so I enjoyed it. Is fasting magical for weigh loss? Not in my opinion. Does it have health benefits? Yes, in my…
  • Also, if one more person says, women can’t get bulky from lifting, I’m going to scream. What looks “bulky” is in the eyes of the beholder. I can mention at least 10 female fitness “experts” that make videos and say, wow, she looks in shape. But do I want my body to look like theirs? No! They look too bulky to me. There’s…
  • 7 years after your initial post, and Ive gotta say, you are absolutely right. These forums do not allow for different ideas of what it means to be fit and to enjoy exercise while seeing results. These are the “if you don’t lift heavy weights you ain’t doin *kitten*” forums. If you’re smarter than that, your ideas and posts…
  • It transfers to our worst enemy by osmosis.
  • Gotta say, the photo with the hair makes them impossible to see. If anything, between the muscle and leanness, the hair, and the fact that scars on guys can look sexy. I wouldn’t change a thing or give it a second thought. Keep doing what you’re doing. The results are super impressive. 👏👏
  • I workout around noon. I only have coffee in the morning and don’t eat until about 4:00pm. I’ve never had a problem, but I prefer exercising fasted, because my energy levels are higher then. Plus all my workouts are short 30-40 minutes.
  • I’m not a big meal person. I’m more a snacker. Problem is, once I start eating, I don’t stop. IF helps me with that. I have a specific window that calories are consumed, and then I’m mentally done.
  • The time I spent in the Mediterranean, the whole meal was what is considered a first course in America. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the delicious bread which they served herbed virgin olive oil on the side, my husband would have left restaurants starving and looking for a Burger King. It’s lighter food by most American…
  • Lucy Wyndham Reed. Found her on YouTube. I generally like High intensity workouts. But when I need or want a sane workout, I go to her. They’re effective, but she structures them for beginners and has Side by side routines for when you’re ready to kick it up a notch. Plus, she has a great personality.
  • Yes. I do vet to some degree. If it’s a guy who has an 800 person friends list, and everyone of them is young and blonde, then I know he didn’t look close enough at my photo.😂 I find it funny that this type of guy exists. What does he think, he’s building a harem? But, other than that, I accept most requests. I delete…
  • I’ve read all the theories and studies about fasting, but only after I had been doing it for many, many years. It didn’t have an official name for it back in the 70s, when as a teenager I didn’t like eating breakfast or lunch because I couldn’t stay awake in class. I ate dinner and that was it, sometimes a pre-bed snack.…
  • That is a heavy exercise routine. Is that something you plan to do forever? Work out what it looks like is 2-3 hours per day? I’m a big believer in setting yourself up with a heathy plan that you can realistically continue with for long term. You talked about bulking before, so I’m assuming you’re not new to strength…
  • One other thing. I didn’t try to change my diet to low carb, more protein or more satiating foods, as so many advise. Unless you count eating extra veggies. Because life is too short and I don’t want to deny myself reasonable portions of my favorite foods. Ever.
  • I did this same thing. I’m 5’9” and my happy weight was always 145. I struggled to get down to that weight. My highest weight was 163. Not overweight by any charts, but I felt tired, not cute, and not as fit at that weight. Plus my clothes didn’t fit. I decided to change my number to 150, even though I’ve always mentally…
  • Yes! I’ve been within a 2 lb range of my maintenance weight for about 4 months. Went on lock down 4 weeks ago. Gained 5 lbs above my higher maintenance number. I had almost given up on maintaining my maintenance weight till after things got back to normal. Then last week something clicked. I’m not going backwards for…
  • Under eating. Before being on MFP I used to work out a lot. I ate only 1200-1400 calories total. I’m female and 5’9”. Simply not enough calories. I’d lose weight but it was torture. I now work out shorter durations, and lose weight eating 1700.
  • Melissa Bender’s are great. She has something like 500 workouts posted. Mostly all body weight, a lot of HIIT workouts. Some with dumbbells. Very effective and she’s in great shape and has a nice personality.
  • It’s called zig zagging calories.
