  • Here and active! I've been paleo/primal since 2010. Had to go on mfp to start counting cals and watching macros after my daughter weaned from nursing to get back on point. Also on the low carb high fat group which is very active.. lots of keto folks but also some primal peeps too.
  • everyone's welcome! There's no size requirement! There's just a different struggle. Some people on MFP have 100 or more to lose and feel motivated by people in the same boat. Some of us just need a kick start or to tone up etc. Welcome!
  • That's really hard. However I've read some studies that suggest the natural sleep cycle for humans is a first sleep and a second sleep with appx an 1 1/2 -3 hours of wakefulness. I extended nursed and was in this pattern for 2 1/2 years and the worst torture was believing my sleep was "supposed" to look a certain way. I'm…
  • Yeah...No. Couldn t get past the photo of the gigantic bowl of oatmeal with like 2 bananas in milk. That is a recipe for a huge crash and burn and carb/hunger cycle. I only know my body and that is just way too much.
  • I want to do this so bad but I can't get there. How awesome that you're following through and seeing the results!
  • I can't remember what documentary it was but it followed a group of obese children. My heart broke watching them eat all the low fat fake diet food and then going to the doctor to show that they either hadn't lost any weight or had actually gained weight! It is devastating what the food industry has done to the last 2…
  • @RalfLott Cutting out wheat and legumes specifically help my GI problems but wheat specifically also cause the skin issues x
  • I don't know if this adds anything to the conversation but I have always been in more or less a normal weight range. I come from a family where most are overweight if not obese or morbidly obese. Even though I never suffered the weight challenge my health suffered greatly: dibilitating mystery migraines, allergies, eczemA…
  • The struggle is real. You are not alone. I read a great article from a "famous" paleo blogger who had a cook book, was speaking on paleo to groups and WAs dying from boredom. Lol it made me feel so much better that even she knew the struggle. I eat mainly primal due to food intolerances. There are only 2 non primal…
  • Are you nursing? Getting 8 hours of sleep? Nursing jacked me up!
  • I've only done 2 Whole 30's in 6 years of Primal/Paleo eating. I LOVE dairy and it is one of the only allergens that I don't have. Corn, wheat, soy, legumes all take me out so it is relatively easy for me to stick to the rules because when I don't I suffer terribly (although oats and rice are ok so once or twice a month…
  • The only way to know for sure if it's muscle is to have your bodyfat% measured at the gym. There are natural fluctuations in weight, especially for women, so if it creeped up a lb or 2 it's probably just water retention. Make sure you have a deficit so that you lose weight and keeping up with cardio will help that.…
  • Oh the stress! Especially if you are prone to auto immune issues which it sounds like you are , the added stress will send your body into defense mode real quick. Good news is you probably get to eat more! Woohoo! Also make sure you're getting good restorative sleep. 8 hours at least. Rest is so so important when you're…
  • It was a combo of things. Not just lifting as I stated. Clearly I was eating more than I needed. And I've added weights and lost inches too. Good for you For finding what works.
  • I don't think you have to worry about a drill Sargent type pt. However for weight loss you're going to need to have the calorie piece in place otherwise it's kind of a waste of money IMO. maybe aim for being consistent , no "cheat days", and logging everthing for 30-90 days and once that habit is in place it may make sense…
  • This time last year I was doing a pretty intense weight lifting program from tnation 6 days a week lifting heavy (I'm 4"11 and was 108ish lbs and squatting 115 or so). I was not counting calories and in 6 weeks I put on 6 lbs including 4% bodyfat. I pretty much freaked the eff out and stopped all training and decided to…
  • I fasted for Good Friday this year...It was HARD! AND I was HANGRY! It's good that you are going in with a plan because I did not. My plan was drink water and coffee. Bad. Plan. If you are allowed in your tradition to eat small things I'd suggest it. Protein as someone suggested is a great one and maybe start pushing your…
  • Yeah I'm a little confused too. I've been doing only cardio and eating at a slight deficit for about 3 mo tha . Prior to that I was just strength training. Im close to goal now and have started to add 2 strength days a week. Guess what? I lost very little of my progress as far as the weight that I can lift. I haven't had…
  • You know what... I am "that girl" in a lot of ways but what the article says is true. No one knows the literal hell I've gone through in my life and are shocked when I share it with them. So in some ways we are all "that girl" or the "that guy" and we should be willing to relish and enjoy it from time to time before we…
  • Not enough info to answer properly as bmr and TDEE vary widely depending sex, occupation , height, current weight, how much cardio, how much under goal. So effects could be zero , slight or absolutely terrible and life threatening.
  • Hey! I'm in my final 5-9 lbs right now. I don't know what you've been doing but when I got half way to goal I added weights 2 days a week just 15 min each and changed my cardio up as well . I'm still losing ( I think at least I only weigh in once a week). Calorie cycling I think also works really well where you have some…
  • I believe if it's a diet that agrees with your body you'll probably do better at your training than the diet you currently have. The only way to know for sure is to try it!
  • No you don't look fat. I think another 15 lbs would probably make you look more "fit" as opposed to just regular healthy. If you feel up to it. Go for it!
  • That is incredible! I grew up on welfare so my mom just felt lucky enough to feed a family of 3 on it. Now I'm a SAHM so we're a single income and my husband doesn't make that much but we make food out priority. I think the first thing is to get out of the mind set that healthy is expensive. You hear it everywhere but it's…
