  • I gained 10 pounds on our last 7 day Carnival Cruise, and I considered that a huge win. I ate well, and after each meal, I'd walk the decks for 45 minutes. Life is just to be lived sometimes. Here's the downside. Those 10 pounds I gained in 7 days took 6 weeks to shed. It was worth it... B)
  • YEP Well said, and I don't get certain "sports", but whatever. Those strong guy competitions don't attract healthy guys well within their BMI weight.
  • This just sounds like a prescription for failure. Good luck to you anyway. I am on the "eat healthy for life" diet...lol :)
  • You're right, but remember, certain athletes are about performance, so their goal weight might not take optimal health into consideration. That's not us...
  • BMI is a fine place to start when you're first setting weight goals. Usually, a weight outside of BMI is too fat. Today's culture of obesity makes BMI seem unrealistic, but no, it's a great indicator of healthy weight in proportion to height. You can calculate yours here: http://www.smartbmicalculator.com/ You should also…
  • My biggest challenge is maintaining weight, losing body fat and retaining muscle. What's your throughts on...* fasted cardio * intermittent fasting * training body adaptation And any other suggestions are appreciated...
  • I lost over 100 pounds on MFP and stopped logging years ago, and things worked out most of the time. I know how to eat, and a single glance at most foods gives me a picture of calories as well as macros. What brings me back is when I see my weight or body fat creeping back up. If I get more than 10 pounds above my goal…
  • ...and I guess deaf mutes will all starve to death...lol
  • This is me. I do HIIT in a fasted state, then go for a walk or swim. A few hours after breakfast, I lift weights. I see value in both, and it's a personal decision. A personal trainer told me cardio in a fasted state burns more fat, but no definitive science is available to prove this. It seems to work for me, but my fat…
  • These are fine with me, but I know guys who'd never go to any of these. They just don't cut it, but again, my tastes are not as high standard as a dining connoisseur.
  • You can find beginner workouts for ladies at HasFit or even YouTube. You could even just Google "Beginner Strength Training" and watch what comes up. Also, here on MFP there are groups you can join. WELCOME....and best of luck to you! <3
  • My general ideal to strive toward comes from Jack Lalanne... "if man makes it, don't eat it". That's a very strict, whole food yoke to carry all the time. I get there about 70%. Close enough... If I am going to blow that, it's going to be in a nice restaurant - not some chain just shoveling food. Life is to be lived, and…
  • This is why I plan my cheat days ahead of time. It puts me in control of when I'm out of control...lol And I lost 110 pounds with a weekly cheat day.
  • ^^^^THIS^^^ And ^^^This^^^ There are numerous posts just like this on MFP, so do not feel like you're the only person eating too little and possibly stifling progress. We all over-reach at times. <3
  • I enjoy the solitude of the early morning about an hour before sunrise. It clears my mind and sets the pace for a productive day.
  • The solution is to address your anxiety where it is no longer a hindrance. This is our reality: nature doesn't care about why we don't exercise. Nature can only respond to what we do when it comes to our level of physical fitness. All of these tips folks have offered are sound, but again, cure the primary issue: anxiety.…
  • The degree of intensity of your exercise is a function of your goals. If you have modest goals, dog walking and house cleaning are fine training sessions. Some of us desire to reach our best, so we need more challenging exercises. Only you can decide just how high you want to rise and how hard you're willing to work to get…
  • Sounds like you're a scammers dream come true... :p Seriously, just try to eat more whole, nutritious foods and stop worrying about making something simple seem complicated.
  • YEP! Years ago after I lost 80 pounds, I was 198 - what we called "One-Derland"...and I made that weight on Thanksgiving day. So, to reward myself, I decided to just eat and do whatever all through the holidays. I gained 35 pounds by January 1st, and it wasn't even like I was pigging out every day. I was even exercising…
  • I always order expensive food items, then realize suddenly that I "forgot" my wallet --haha --->OOPS! And it gets worse! :o After 10 dates like that, I propose marriage!
  • Evenings and late nights are when my food cravings emerge from hiding in their evil efforts to ruin my whole day's nutritious food intake. Here is how I address these fiends... 1. APPLES - I know if I eat a few apples, 30 minutes later I'm going to be OK. I keep apples and do not keep junk foods in my home. 2. Stay…
  • Oh, that was you I hit? Sorry for not stopping, but I had things to do...
  • I think the high protein recommendations stem from the bodybuilding community where you need all those grams or protein to roid up properly. And bodybuilder magazines sell protein supplement to wanna-be bodybuilders, so every article is about getting more protein. I stopped worrying about protein and most people on a…
  • I mostly gave up booze, beer and all other type alcohol. I'll have a glass of wine with a nice meal, but that is it. We're talking once a month... Booze to me represent empty, body killing calories, and you can now COUNT ME OUT of that tribe. My health and fitness goals are more to me than the fleeting pleasures of junk…
  • I started out with 80 pounds in order to reach 199... I have lost 110 pounds and am now maintaining... :) Of all my accomplishments and weigh ins, that day I saw 199 remains the most emotional and memorable. It was more of a deal than that day I finally reached my end weight loss goal. 199 THERE IS IS ---> 199...wow....…
  • I never discovered any easy solutions. You learn to gut it out and find your self-discipline. I realize that's not the cute answer, but I have found that losing weight and becoming fit and healthy is very simple. It's just hard as hell! :o
  • From? I am "from" a place where people never end a sentence with a preposition... o:) JUST KIDDING! Campbeltown PA -- WELCOME!
