  • Not Jonathan, but salt/sugar/fat in your moon pie trigger a dopamine reaction that broccoli does not.
  • I’ll third the opinion that small changes lead to better overall habits. Start trying to eat a fruit or veg with each meal, live with that for a few weeks and then go from there. If you have a soda or sweets problem, pick one of those to work on next. Don’t try to do it all at once, is the point, that way usually leads to…
  • I skated on my mini ramp! Tomorrow I want to hit a trail for a trot.
  • Once you have your number you can search for any “barcode generator” which will make a graphic for you on the fly.
  • The first post querying logging did it.
  • I just decided to shift a few pounds a couple of days ago by tracking. I had a little grief/stress creep and it’s as good a time as any, but I’m not feeling festive and am not planning on the season being anything out of routine, which will certainly make the difference.
  • Echoing what has previously been said about it working in maintenance, but only after the education of controlled counting and successful loss as teaching tools. It’s still counting, really, just a matter of degree of detail.
  • Stick to your bubble a little longer, we’re still in a pandemic!
  • In my experience, high fibre food with lots of fruit and veg.
  • You reminded me I need to shop for some waterproof trail shoes. I’m in Southern California so ‘winter’ is no big deal here. The only thing I really need to work around is rain, as I enjoy the cold a lot. The main trail I frequent once or twice a week closes at the first sprinkles, it’s a lot of clay mud and steep and rocky…
  • I am so rich in figs just now, it’s fig everything over here. Even the neighbours are getting tubs full. I planted garlic last weekend for harvest next year, and tomatoes, zucchini and a row of green beans. In a couple of weeks I will be sowing kale, spinach and broccoli. I also found a small amount of Foxglove seeds and…
  • For me it matters where I “spend” my calories - I’m fine with a fairly light breakfast, a big lunch and afternoon snacks, and then a light dinner. This is assuming I’m eating some fruit and veg and decent fibre. Tellingly, though, if I get engrossed in an activity or job, I will not feel as hungry as if I was sitting…
  • Just pick one and stick with that one. You could get half a dozen other readings and they could all be different.
  • It’s a little bit response to the odd tone of the post and also to the “this one diet” idea.
  • So breakfast? Smoothies don't do it for me. I rotate between fruit and yoghurt (add stuff like chia, hemp, sunflower, flax for fat and such) or oatmeal with a fruit and some peanut butter or something, or if I'm not up to much I might just have toast. My oatmeal I always have cold - I put my milk on the oats first thing…
  • If you're interested she has a group you can join... ;)
  • Set a little fun budget for a few things, and some gentle remover and cotton pads, and practice! Winged liner takes a lot of tries but it's super worth it when you get it right, just be prepared for the two to be sisters and not twins :D I also recommend an actual brush for doing this kind of liner, rather than a felt tip…
  • I do dry shampoo at night and pineapple it, and then that next day when it needs a wash but it's just not practical I do a deep side part and braid back one side and do a ponytail. Gets a bit of dimension so not just slapped back from the forehead and gets me through one more day. A tiny bit of hair spray and a fine comb,…
  • Rice cakes and peanut butter. Fruit - apples, bananas, tangerines and oranges. Boiled eggs. Crackers.
  • No surprise that a person advocating a horrible calorie plan like that has other gaps and deficiencies in understanding; they are not to be listened to about anything.
  • Spreadsheets! A tab for what's on hand so you can look at it all in one place and see what you can make, and another for days of the week and their planned meals. I also have a tab I call "cheat sheet" which is ratios and cook times that for whatever reasons I just can't keep in my head so I have a quick place to look up…
  • If you delete all the requests you do miss out on some comic relief. One guy just wanted to tell stories over PM about how he got kicked in the junk at a krav maga class in front of women. Odd kink, but I don't judge. He got deleted but I still got a laugh.
  • Airpods. I wear them for trail running and all kinds and they never move. I had them in while I was doing yard work last weekend and after lunch I opened the case to put them back in and go back outside, to discover they were still in my ears and I just hadn't noticed.
  • What has his research told him about it? What are the alternatives he is ok with? I slid easily into vegetarianism when I realised I was using a number of frozen and shelf stable products in place of fresh meat for the convenience alone. There are lots of variety of those about, but your shopping bill will go up a bit.…
  • Yeah "cage free" pretty sure just means crammed into a barn instead, still so crowded that they can't move around easily. They also predate on each other more easily and are likely just as stressed. A law was passed a few years back in CA about minimum room for egg laying hens in these situations so farmers just culled…
  • It's an ethical difference, but in my experience with back yard chickens, also a taste difference. I have zero clue if there is any nutritional difference. Battery/industrial egg farming is hateful.
  • I have 3 things I usually eat. 1. Oats - pour a half cup or so into a bowl and add the milk - when I'm done with coffee they are good to eat (cold is fine by me) and I'll add some cut fruit (banana, mango, strawberries maybe) and a spoonful each or so of flax meal, chia seeds, sunflower seeds or maybe hemp seeds or a nut…
  • As has been said, as long as your calories are good and you are liking what you eat, don't worry so much about the macros. Question though: that broccoli has sauce, no? 9g of fat for broccoli?
  • That's about how I eat but I did not cut sugar or bread or my pop chips and cookies or whatever. Not because of the "processed" part but to slow myself down, I do have a "rule" where I can have cake and pastry and the like if I make it myself. That just makes me more thoughtful about eating the highest calorie density…
  • An oil spray and a good non stick gets you a fried egg with minimal collateral calories. I used to baste with the oil to get a set white and runny yolk, these days I use a pan with a lid and once the bottom is set, put the lid on and I guess steam it to where I want it.
