How did they cram these calories in?
It’s a coconut based yoghurt. I didn’t check the label when I bought it, just trying out a few plant based yoghurts. Dang!

Bill Bryson "The Body: A Guide for Occupants"
I have this on the go as my audiobook right now and while I would recommend anything he does in general, the chapter in this book on "Food, Glorious Food" is a pleasant, not too deep, review of our relationship with food historically and scientifically. He covers historical understanding of nutrition and such, and his…

Three Years Later
About this time three years ago I made the decision to start getting my weight under control - at 5'5 and 184 I was moving out of feels good and curvy and into "yikes" when I saw random photographs. I was fairly sedentary outside of organised team sports a couple of times a week, and I always enjoyed food and the portions…

Jar of Eggplant
I bought a jar of garlic eggplant on a whim and I had some on crackers yesterday and it's .... fine. Added a little hot sauce, still fine. I need ideas of what to do with the rest of the (large) jar. It's pretty mushy already so minimal further processing would be ideal. I only ever saute or wok up fresh stuff, I'm drawing…

Expected creep, got a jump!
I've been in maintenance for the past couple of years and my weight has not budged much out of the 134-136 range at all. Since last fall I transitioned out of logging and tracking my cals and had success. December I started an 8 week strength program with the understanding that I'd keep doing the intuitive food thing and…

Weight Labels
My gym has a bunch of Life Fitness weight machines and several of them have weight stacks labeled like so: This particular one is the lat pulldown, and although it has two cables, the weights don't move independently so what is the weight resistance at any given pin and why is it labeled like this? There are other stacks…

Share a food related victory?
Did you say no to office cake? Ignore the bagels in the morning meeting? Perhaps you made a substitution in your diet that is working for you and want to tell us about it? Did you exercise some iron will and floss and brush and call it a night instead of diving into the ice cream when you were out of cals for the day?…

Samosa spiced potato jumble with TVP
I pinned this a couple of weeks back and just got around to making it tonight - I liked it a lot! I was worried it wouldn't be very flavourful but I was wrong. I had the bottle of sriracha next to me and didn't need it at all haha. Adjust the quantities and spices to taste, I don't measure just sort of went by instinct and…

Is this even possible?
Slight misprint. 100g dry would be near 320 calories yes?

Vitamin D Deficiency
For about a month I was feeling various symptoms of fatigue, low mood, muscle and joint pain that I couldn't rectify by making sure I was sleeping and eating well and being careful of workout recovery. I went in to my doc earlier this week and they drew blood and found low Vit D levels. This also happened to me last year…

How to tone fat clickbait
My sister shared this on Facebook and I was like oh man, here we go, so I watched the video to see what was up and was surprised into a good laugh with basic info a lot of newcomers can use. This is NSFW - lots of swearing in the good British tradition and some minor funny vulgarity - consider yourself warned. But anyway,…

Anybody know of a calculator that works back from calories to weight/volume?
Like, you can say blueberries 100 calories and you can access what weight of the food that is?

How accurate are our fitness devices? Published study.
I haven't dove too far in yet, but I intend to read through it all during the day. https://www.mdpi.com/2075-4426/7/2/3/htm Abstract: The ability to measure physical activity through wrist-worn devices provides an opportunity for cardiovascular medicine. However, the accuracy of commercial devices is largely unknown. The…

Help me work out these yoghurt calories!
So I made yoghurt. The ingredients were a bottle of Fairlife 0% at 555 cals, and an ounce of 0% starter at 15 for a total of 570. The finished weight of the cooked yoghurt was 1599g, and I strained off the whey leaving 900g. The whey was about 550ml/18-20 fl oz a little over 2 cups. How do I work out the calories in the…

Running and Leg Day
Hi all, I'm here to pick your brains about training choices. Specifically I am having trouble figuring out how much resistance training to do for my lower body while trying to increase my running distances and endurance. On any given day I could run a 5k, and I did my first 10k race in November and ran without breaks at…

Halibut steak
I have one left and want to eat it tomorrow for lunch. What would you do with it?

Whole smoked salmon
We have a house guest for the weekend and have been gifted a smoked salmon. Yay! What are some things I can do with it to have a decent meal without blowing my calories? I get about 1600 a day before exercise, and would love to come up with some 4-500 calorie dishes. Bagel and cream cheese being a given, how else would you…

Just wanted to share my morning run :)
I got out nice and early this morning to beat the heat and it was also overcast - so cool, but humid! I felt so much better not dealing with the sun! No idea if that’s a good pace for trails or not but it was challenging in a great feeling way. What plans does everyone have this weekend or what did you knock out already?

Xanthan Gum
I'm interested in making my own pudding with cashew milk for the base and xanthan gum to thicken, but a couple of experiments left me with the most disgusting textured stuff ever. I used a cup or so of the cashew milk and a scant half teaspoon of the gum and a stick blender. The texture was not uniform and really gross -…

What happens after a cheat day?
I've posted a video by this YouTuber before, she's a PhD student and a diet/fitness vlogger. I like when she does the heavy science/math videos because I enjoy understanding the numbers and data of weight and nutrition. The breakdown of how much fat she would expect to gain from her 8000 calorie cheat day is the most…
