Only if you're in a calorie deficit.

Great NSV! Good for you.

I'd only intervene if she was recommending something truly harmful to a particularly gullible or vulnerable person. Otherwise, it's a "shake it off" situation.

Enjoy yourself. And if you're worried, seek out places with great vegetarian/vegan options. They're usually a lighter option calorie-wise (but not always!). This site is great: https://happycow.net/north_america/usa/new_york/new_york_city/

Even if you can't see them yet, it's important to know what it means to have lost them. I try and find something in my house or garden that weighs the same as what I've lost and carry it around for a while. It's always a shock to realise what all those pounds actually feel like and a massive relief to be able to put them…

I love this. <3

I wouldn't worry about the relative size/elasticity of an internal organ. Your stomach will expand to fit in whatever you put in there (within reason!). It is not a magic creature that can be trained. It's going to do what it always does - act as a temporary repository for what you've just eaten, and kick start the…

THIS. All three of these sites are a goldmine. And the food is amazing. I'm not 100% vegan, but these are still my go-to sites when I'm looking for recipes. Also worth checking out Katy at http://littlemissmeatfree.com/ and Aine at http://www.peasoupeats.com/

Can you imagine eating this way forever? If not, then rethink your diet. Eat your calories. Enjoy them. Make food you LIKE eating. 100lbs is a doable goal but it will be a miserable process if you're surviving on chicken and protein shakes. I'm miserable just thinking about it... Eating a balanced diet throughout your…

This thread is awesome. You guys are an inspiration. <3

Yup. Which is why counting calories works for me. No banned foods. Just everything in moderation. :)

I've lost 28 since January.

Scotland!

Whoooosh! :D

Taking 500 off your maintenance will result in a 1lb a week loss. Not 0.5lbs. Might want to rejig your numbers there...
-
It's not a race though. Slower is good. It gives you a chance to properly relearn the new habits you'll need to keep the weight off. Also, you are already at a "normal" weight for your height. If you want to shed a few extra pounds, it's more likely (and safer) to come off at about 0.5lb a week. Good luck!
-
Yes, if you exercise you should eat more. And I'd say 1200 is very low for your height/weight. Have you set MFP at 2lbs a week? Change it to 1 or 1.5 and see what you get. Sugar doesn't really matter unless you have a medical reason to keep it very low.
-
Nope, it doesn't hurt, but it also doesn't matter. I don't eat "clean". I'm losing fine. :)
-
Smashing. The upside of this discovery is that I don't need to drop my calories to 1200 anytime soon (which I wasn't looking forward to - I like food!). But given that my TDEE is apparently a bit higher than I thought, I probably still have a decent runway to carry on at 1300 (plus some scope for occasional maintenance…

Excluding my first week (which I class as an outlier because I lost 10lbs!), I've been averaging a 1.3lb loss per week, so the pace of the loss is very healthy. I had 60-70lbs to lose, so it also seems about right for now. I've now got 33lbs to go until I hit my first goal, so I imagine that average loss will keep…

Well done!

Beans. Lots of beans. :)

Some excellent advice here. Be kinder to yourself.

BubbleWitch3 on my phone. 10 minutes of that and my brain gets distracted from "the munchies". :)

I have never read it, but a lot of people on here seem to like The Beck Diet Solution. It's not a "diet book", but is based around cognitive behavioural therapy principles.
-
Of course. You can drink whatever you like if it works for your calorie target.
-
Yeah, beware of Clean Eating. You can eat as "clean" as you like (and while it's totally unnecessary, there is no harm in doing do if that's your jam), but if you don't actually create a calorie deficit, then you won't lose weight.

Weight loss is not linear. Some weeks you just won't lose...
