  • I had a bad flare up for almost a year. I was eating 50grams of fibre a day and drinking tons of water, and nothing. Not going is absolute misery. Finally I saw a naturopath. I did an elimination diet and ended up gluten free for 18 months. I am finally back to "normal" and able to eat freely. My doc also recommended…
  • You don't have to completely change everything, just tweak it. Look for high fibre bread. Here in Canada I can get Country Harvest High Fibre Bread (1 slice is 100 cals with 8 grams of fibre). Try looking for higher fibre pastas, use brown instead of white rice. Look up fruits and vegs with a higher fibre content and try…
  • You definitely should see a GI doc. I was the same. On top of my IBS I was told I had "motility dysfunction." Basically the flap at the top of the stomach and bottom of the stomach didn't always work. I could be hungry but couldn't eat after a couple bites cause the food wouldn't go into my stomach, just sort of build up…
  • I am so sad when I see little dogs overweight. Great job getting her fit and healthy
  • So long as you stay under your calories for the day you are fine.
  • "They" say to divide your weight (lbs) by 2 and that is the minimum ounces of water/liquid you should drink. Personally I aim for 96-104 ounces everyday. I do it because it helps me feel full and is beneficial for my IBS. (coffee/tea/juice counts) You should listen to your body. Obviously if it makes you feel ill don't do…
  • My rottie cross went from almost 100 lbs to a comfortable 85 lbs. She'd eat until she died so reduced portions and more exercise for her. My terrier mix has been trim all her life but she only eats when she is hungry...such a smartie!
  • I buy the giant bag of milk chocolate squares at Costco (swiss delice) and I keep them in the downstairs freezer. (so there is some effort required to get it:) They are about 34 calories each. So you can have them throughout the day if you need too. Sucking on them frozen works for me. They come in dark chocolate too but I…
  • Kraft Berry Balsamic...it is like crack to me. I could eat it all day long
  • I now eat spaghetti squash in place of pasta. I love it, the extra fibre, nutrients, the low calories and the huge quantity I can have. I've had it with tomato sauce, bolognese and chicken alfredo. It is awesome  I am also a fan of plain greek yogurt in place of sour cream and homemade mayo.
  • Yes. I have been blindsided by photos a couple times not realising how much weight I'd put on. I have taken before/during pics and measurements since I started in January. I still don't see an obvious change in the mirror even though I lost 20 lbs and went down sizes/inches. Maybe because I see myself every day...
  • I have cut out a lot of the "typical" carbs because I have to eat 1200 cals to lose 1 lb a week and I find bread, rice and pasta high in calories but not as filling. For breakfast I usually have a high fibre granola bar, yogurt with fruit or granola or a banana with peanut butter rolled in a wrap. Still carbs but not full…
  • Some days I still don't see it but I've lost inches and clothes that were too tight are now too big. There was movement in measurements after 10 lbs or so.
  • Congrats on doing for you! FYI...thin oreos only have 140 calories for 4, with a cup of tea...it is so tasty. In my opinion, there are no useless calories...lol. If it makes me happy it is worth it. Gotta work it in and work for it though. If you haven't already planned so, get a food scale to weigh your portions. It is an…
  • Thankfully exercise is not a deal breaker to lose weight. It helps but you can certainly work within your limits. I had to do GF eating for a year and half. (my digestion is bad) Thankfully I am back to normal eating but there are lots of things you can do to manage. GF doesn't have to be high calories. I love the website…
  • Look at the success boards. There are tons of stories and pics. Gets me fired up every time!
  • You can lose without exercise. You have to be careful to stay within your calorie limit though. I want to lose 40 lbs. I lost the first 20 lbs just through diet. (I lost 26 lbs but got off track and regained 5lbs) When you don't have much to lose it is hard to lose quickly. My calorie goal for 2 lbs/week is 1200 and for 1…
  • I use the app the most. It is under "progress". You can select weight, measurements etc... there is a little plus (+) sign on the top right to add an entry.
  • -Jello and cool whip/dream whip/whipped cream (I do use sugar free but even with sugar it wouldn't be too much) -Pudding (50 cals and up) -Caramel chocolate chip rice cakes (60 cals) -Oreo thins (140 cals for 4) -Frozen fudge/ice milk bars (100-120 cals) -Individually wrapped chocolate squares (swiss delice at Costco are…
  • I printed some of my diary entries from the beginning so I could remember what I was eating. It was slow, the first few days I did good with breakfast and lunch and crashed at night. I am back on track now though. Keep trying until it comes together.

  • Take measurements. It is a great indicator. You may not see it in the mirror but the tape doesn't lie!
  • I'm not much of an exerciser. My cardiovascular health is terrible. I'd really rather sit. I recently started trying to go for a walk on my lunch break and that led to walking/running intervals. Walking seemed too slow...lol. I usually go with a workmate who is in similar shape. We motivate each other. Going with someone…
  • I eat something similar. Sometimes I add chopped apple and shredded cheese. I also sub tuna for ham or chicken and/or add some cooked egg whites. You can alter the veg and dressing to keep things interesting. My big salads usually come in around 300 ish calories and are huge. No problem staying full on it.
  • Great attitude. That is how I feel as well. Rather than dwell on the past just keep pushing forward. I've had a couple shaky weekends but we don't change our lives overnight. Not giving up is the key!
  • I always recommend taking measurements. When you up your exercise like you have you may see your body tightening up and clothes getting a bit looser without the scale moving. There are other victories than the number on the scale. Don't give up, consistency and patience is the key! Oh..and I prep my breakfast/lunch the…
  • Mints. I get something strong-ish like excel. It helps to have something in my mouth but puts me off eating other foods when I am not really hungry.
  • I have IBS so sometimes I have problems even when getting adequate fibre, water and exercise. I take magnesium citrate to help. Fruit can help as well. I definitely try not to take laxatives very often but will periodically take one with a stimulant to help increase the natural contractions. The feeling of not being…
  • I've done that too...a few times. It takes time to change our habits. The key is to not give up
  • That is a great job. If you don't think 26 lbs is a lot try carrying around a 20 lb bag of potatoes the next time you are grocery shopping. The good news is that exercise is not the key to weight loss. (I lost my first 20 lbs just with diet) But getting moving helps speed things up not to mention helps with mood and…
  • Have you been taking measurements and photos along the way? Looking at your progress can help re-motivate you. The success threads work too...for me at least. What do you find discouraging? Has your weight loss slowed? Are you tired of what you are eating? How do you feel about exercise? I lost my first 20 lbs basically…
